| 74:1 سورة المدثر بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم ٛــــ ياايها المدثر |

| Transliteration | Ya ayyuha almuddaththiru |
| Literal | You, you the wrapped/covered for warmth in a robe. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! |
| Pickthal | O thou enveloped in thy cloak, |
| Arberry | O thou shrouded in thy mantle, |
| Shakir | O you who are clothed! |
| Sarwar | stand up, deliver your warning, |
| Khalifa | O you hidden secret. |
| Hilali/Khan | O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! |
| H/K/Saheeh | O you who covers himself [with a garment], |
| Malik | O Muddaththir (the one enveloped - one of the nicknames of Prophet Muhammad)![1] |
| QXP | O You founder of the most Benevolent Order! |
| Maulana Ali | O thou who wrappest thyself up, |
| Free Minds | O you blanketed one. |
| Qaribullah | O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, |
| |
|
| George Sale | O thou covered, |
| JM Rodwell | O THOU, ENWRAPPED in thy mantle! |
| |
|
| Asad | O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! |
| 74:6 ولاتمنن تستكثر |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Wala tamnun tastakthiru |
| Literal | And do not do a favour and remind of it doing much (repeatedly) . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Nor expect, in giving, any increase (for thyself)! |
| Pickthal | And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! |
| Arberry | Give not, thinking to gain greater |
| Shakir | And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, |
| Sarwar | Exercise patience to please your Lord. |
| Khalifa | Be content with your lot. |
| Hilali/Khan | And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allahs obedience as a favour to Allah). |
| H/K/Saheeh | And do not confer favor to acquire more |
| Malik | do not favor others to expect a gain,[6] |
| QXP | And give your wealth and person selflessly (30:39), (76:9). |
| Maulana Ali | And do no favour seeking gain, |
| Free Minds | And do not give expecting something in return. |
| Qaribullah | Do not give, thinking to gain greater |
| |

| George Sale | And be not liberal, in hopes to receive more in return: |
| JM Rodwell | And bestow not favours that thou mayest receive again with increase; |
| |

| Asad | And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, |
| 74:7 ولربك فاصبر |

| Transliteration | Walirabbika faisbir |
| Literal | And to your Lord, so be patient. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! |
| Pickthal | For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! |
| Arberry | and be patient unto thy Lord. |
| Shakir | And for the sake of your Lord, be patient. |
| Sarwar | When the trumpet is sounded,. |
| Khalifa | Steadfastly commemorate your Lord. |
| Hilali/Khan | And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! |
| H/K/Saheeh | But for your Lord be patient. |
| Malik | and be patient for the sake of your Lord.[7] |
| QXP | Steadfastly for your Sustainer. |
| Maulana Ali | And for the sake of thy Lord, be patient. |
| Free Minds | And to your Lord be patient. |
| Qaribullah | be patient unto your Lord. |

| George Sale | And patiently wait for thy Lord. |

| Asad | but unto thy Sustainer turn in patience. |
| 74:8 فاذا نقر في الناقور |

| Transliteration | Fa-itha nuqira fee alnnaqoori |
| Literal | So if the horn/bugle/trumpet was blown in. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, |
| Pickthal | For when the trumpet shall sound, |
| Arberry | For when the Trump is sounded |
| Shakir | For when the trumpet is sounded, |
| Sarwar | it will be a hard day |
| Khalifa | Then, when the horn is blown. |
| Hilali/Khan | Then, when the Trumpet is sounded (i.e. its second blowing); |

| Malik | When the Trumpet will be sounded,[8] |
| QXP | For when the Trumpet will sound. |

| Asad | And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, |
| 74:9 فذلك يومئذ يوم عسير |

| Transliteration | Fathalika yawma-ithin yawmun AAaseerun |
| Literal | So that, that day (is) a difficult/distressing day/time. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- |
| Pickthal | Surely that day will be a day of anguish, |
| Arberry | that day will be a harsh day, |
| Shakir | That, at that time, shall be a difficult day, |
| Sarwar | and for the disbelievers, in particular, it will not be at all easy. |
| Khalifa | That will be a difficult day. |
| Hilali/Khan | Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. |
| H/K/Saheeh | That Day will be a difficult day |
| Malik | that Day will be a very difficult Day,[9] |
| QXP | That will be that Day - A Day of hardship. |
| Maulana Ali | That will be -- that day -- difficult day, |
| Free Minds | That will be a very difficult Day. |
| Qaribullah | that shall be a Harsh Day |

| George Sale | verily that day shall be a day of distress |

| Asad | that very Day shall be a day of anguish, |
| 74:10 على الكافرين غير يسير |

|
| Transliteration | AAala alkafireena ghayru yaseerin |
| Literal | On the disbelievers (it is)not easy . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Far from easy for those without Faith. |
| Pickthal | Not of ease, for disbelievers. |
| Arberry | for the unbelievers not easy. |
| Shakir | For the unbelievers, anything but easy. |
| Sarwar | Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, |
| Khalifa | For the disbelievers, not easy. |
| Hilali/Khan | Far from easy for the disbelievers. |
| H/K/Saheeh | For the disbelievers not easy. |
| Malik | not easy for the disbelievers.[10] |
| QXP | Not of ease, for all who deny the Truth. |
| Maulana Ali | For the disbelievers, anything but easy. |
| Free Minds | Upon the rejecters it will not be easy. |
| Qaribullah | and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. |

| Asad | not of ease, for all who [now] deny the truth! |
| 74:11 ذرني ومن خلقت وحيدا |

| Transliteration | Tharnee waman khalaqtu waheedan |
| Literal | Leave Me and whom I created alone. |
| |

| Yusuf Ali | Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- |
| Pickthal | Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, |
| Arberry | Leave Me with him whom I created alone, |
| Shakir | Leave Me and him whom I created alone, |
| Sarwar | and whom I have granted abundant wealth |
| Khalifa | Let Me deal with one I created as an individual. |
| Hilali/Khan | Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Waleed bin Al-Mugheerah Al-Makhzoomee)! |
| H/K/Saheeh | Leave Me with the one I created alone |
| Malik | Leave Me and the one (Walid bin Mughirah, a staunch opponent of the Prophet) whom I created, alone.[11] |
| QXP | Leave Me alone to deal with him whom I have created alone. |
| Maulana Ali | Leave Me alone with him whom I created, |
| Free Minds | So leave Me alone with the one I have created. |
| Qaribullah | Leave Me alone with he whom I created |
| |

| George Sale | Let me alone with him whom I have created, |
| JM Rodwell | Leave me alone to deal with him whom I have created, |
| |

| Asad | LEAVE Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, |
| 74:12 وجعلت له مالا ممدودا |

| Transliteration | WajaAAaltu lahu malan mamdoodan |
| Literal | And I made/put for him extended/spread possessions/property . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | To whom I granted resources in abundance, |
| Pickthal | And then bestowed upon him ample means, |
| Arberry | and appointed for him ample wealth |
| Shakir | And give him vast riches, |
| Sarwar | and children living in his presence, |
| Khalifa | I provided him with lots of money. |
| Hilali/Khan | And then granted him resources in abundance. |
| H/K/Saheeh | And to whom I granted extensive wealth |
| Malik | I gave him abundant resources,[12] |
| QXP | And then granted him abundant wealth and resources. (73:11). |
| Maulana Ali | And gave him vast riches, |
| Free Minds | And I gave him abundant wealth. |
| Qaribullah | and designated for him ample wealth, |
| |

| George Sale | on whom I have bestowed abundant riches, |
| JM Rodwell | And on whom I have bestowed vast riches, |

| Asad | and to whom I have granted resources vast, |
| 74:14 ومهدت له تمهيدا |
| |

| Transliteration | Wamahhadtu lahu tamheedan |
| Literal | And I prepared for him preparation . |

| Yusuf Ali | To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! |
| Pickthal | And made (life) smooth for him. |
| Arberry | and made all things smooth for him; |
| Shakir | And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; |
| Sarwar | and who still desires more. |
| Khalifa | I made everything easy for him. |
| Hilali/Khan | And made life smooth and comfortable for him! |
| H/K/Saheeh | And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. |
| Malik | and made his life smooth and comfortable.[14] |
| QXP | And made life comfortable for him like a cradle. |
| Maulana Ali | And made matters easy for him, |
| Free Minds | And I made everything comfortable for him. |
| Qaribullah | I made things smooth and easy for him, |
| |
|
| George Sale | and for whom I have disposed affairs in a smooth and easy manner, |
| JM Rodwell | And for whom I have smoothed all things smoothly down;- |
| |
|
| Asad | and to whose life I gave so wide a scope: |
| 74:15 ثم يطمع ان ازيد |
| |

| Transliteration | Thumma yatmaAAu an azeeda |
| Literal | Then he wishes/covets that I increase. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Yet is he greedy-that I should add (yet more);- |
| Pickthal | Yet he desireth that I should give more. |
| Arberry | then he is eager that I should do more. |
| Shakir | And yet he desires that I should add more! |
| Sarwar | Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. |
| Khalifa | Yet, he is greedy for more. |
| Hilali/Khan | After all that he desires that I should give more; |
| H/K/Saheeh | Then he desires that I should add more. |
| Malik | Yet he hopes that I shall give him more.[15] |
| QXP | But he keeps increasing in greed, desiring more and more. |
| Maulana Ali | And yet he desires that I should give more! |
| Free Minds | Then he is greedy wanting that I give more. |
| Qaribullah | yet he is eager that I increase him. |
| |
|
| George Sale | and who desireth that I will yet add other blessings unto him. |
| JM Rodwell | Yet desireth he that I should add more! |
| |
|
| Asad | and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! |
| 74:16 كلا انه كان لاياتنا عنيدا |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Kalla innahu kana li-ayatina AAaneedan |
| Literal | No, but he was to Our verses/evidences stubborn/obstinate. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! |
| Pickthal | Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. |
| Arberry | Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; |
| Shakir | By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. |
| Sarwar | We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. |
| Khalifa | He stubbornly refused to accept these proofs. |
| Hilali/Khan | Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). |
| H/K/Saheeh | No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. |
| Malik | By no means! Because he has stubbornly denied Our revelations.[16] |
| QXP | Nay! Behold, he has been a stubborn opponent of Our Revelations. |
| Maulana Ali | By no means! Surely he is inimical to Our messages. |
| Free Minds | No. He was stubborn to Our revelations. |
| Qaribullah | Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. |
| |
|
| George Sale | By no means: Because he is an adversary to our signs. |
| JM Rodwell | But no! because to our signs he is a foe |
| |
|
| Asad | Nay, verily, it is against Our messages that he knowingly, stubbornly sets himself^ |
| 74:17 سارهقه صعودا |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Saorhiquhu saAAoodan |
| Literal | I will burden him (with) severity/hardship. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! |
| Pickthal | On him I shall impose a fearful doom. |
| Arberry | and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. |
| Shakir | I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. |
| Sarwar | He planned and plotted. |
| Khalifa | I will increasingly punish him. |
| Hilali/Khan | I shall oblige him to (climb a slippery mountain in the Hell-fire called AsSaood, or to) face a severe torment! |
| H/K/Saheeh | I will cover him with arduous torment. |
| Malik | Soon I shall make him suffer mounting calamities,[17] |
| QXP | I will cause him to walk an exhausting uphill climb. |
| Maulana Ali | I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. |
| Free Minds | I will exhaust him in climbing. |
| Qaribullah | I will constrain him to a hard ascent. |
| |
|
| George Sale | I will afflict him with grievous calamities: |
| JM Rodwell | I will lay grievous woes upon him. |
| |
|
| Asad | [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! |
| 74:18 انه فكر وقدر |
| |

| Transliteration | Innahu fakkara waqaddara |
| Literal | That he truly thought, and he evaluated/estimated . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | For he thought and he plotted;- |
| Pickthal | For lo! he did consider; then he planned - |
| Arberry | Lo! He reflected, and determined -- |
| Shakir | Surely he reflected and guessed, |
| Sarwar | May he be condemned! What an evil plan he has made! |
| Khalifa | For he reflected, then decided. |
| Hilali/Khan | Verily, he thought and plotted; |
| H/K/Saheeh | Indeed, he thought and deliberated. |
| Malik | surely he pondered and devised a plot.[18] |
| QXP | For, behold, he thought, and he designed. |
| Maulana Ali | Surely he reflected and determined, |
| Free Minds | He thought and he analyzed. |
| Qaribullah | He reflected, and then determined |
| |
|
| George Sale | For he hath devised and prepared contumelious expressions to ridicule the Koran. |
| JM Rodwell | For he plotted and he planned! |

| Asad | Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] - |
| 74:19 فقتل كيف قدر |
| |

| Transliteration | Faqutila kayfa qaddara |
| Literal | So how he evaluated/estimated was killed (punished). |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And woe to him! How he plotted!- |
| Pickthal | (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! |
| Arberry | death seize him, how he determined! |
| Shakir | But may he be cursed how he plotted; |
| Sarwar | May he be condemned again for his schemes! |
| Khalifa | Miserable is what he decided. |
| Hilali/Khan | So let him be cursed! How he plotted! |
| H/K/Saheeh | So may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. |
| Malik | May he perish, how he plotted![19] |
| QXP | And thus he destroys himself, how he designs. |
| Maulana Ali | But may he be destroyed how he determined! |
| Free Minds | So woe to him for how he thought. |
| Qaribullah | death seized him, how was his determining! |

| George Sale | May he be cursed: How maliciously hath he prepared the same! |
| JM Rodwell | May he be cursed! How he planned! |
| |

| Asad | and thus he destroys himself, 9 the way he meditates: |
| 74:20 ثم قتل كيف قدر |

| Transliteration | Thumma qutila kayfa qaddara |
| Literal | Then was killed (punished) how he evaluated/estimated. |

| Yusuf Ali | Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- |
| Pickthal | Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! - |
| Arberry | Again, death seize him, how he determined! |
| Shakir | Again, may he be cursed how he plotted; |
| Sarwar | He looked around, |
| Khalifa | Miserable indeed is what he decided. |
| Hilali/Khan | And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! |
| H/K/Saheeh | Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. |
| Malik | Again, may he perish, how he plotted![20] |
| QXP | Again, he destroys himself, how he designs. |
| Maulana Ali | Again, may he be destroyed how he determined! |
| Free Minds | Then woe to him for how he thought. |
| Qaribullah | Again, death seized him, how was his determining! |

| George Sale | And again, may he be cursed: How maliciouswly hath he prepared the same! |
| JM Rodwell | Again, may he be cursed! How he planned! |

| Asad | yea, he destroys himself, the way he meditates! |
| 74:22 ثم عبس وبسر |
| |

| Transliteration | Thumma AAabasa wabasara |
| Literal | Then he frowned , and he frowned/became gloomy . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Then he frowned and he scowled; |
| Pickthal | Then frowned he and showed displeasure. |
| Arberry | then he frowned, and scowled, |
| Shakir | Then he frowned and scowled, |
| Sarwar | Your Lord knows that you and a group of those who are with you get up for prayer sometimes for less than two-thirds of the night, sometimes half and sometimes one-third of it. God determines the duration of the night and day. He knew that it would be hard for you to keep an exact account of the timing of the night prayers, so He turned to you with forgiveness. Thus, recite from the Quran as much as possible. He knew that some of you would be sick, others would travel in the land to seek God's favors, and still others would fight for the cause of God. Thus, recite from the Quran as much as possible, be steadfast in prayer, pay the zakat , and give virtuous loans to God. Whatever good deeds you save for the next life, you will certainly find them with God. This is the best investment, and for this you will find the greatest reward. Ask forgiveness from God. God is All-forgiving and All-merciful. |

| Hilali/Khan | Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; |
| H/K/Saheeh | Then he frowned and scowled; |
| Malik | frowned and scowled,[22] |
| QXP | And then he frowned and glared. |
| Maulana Ali | Then frowned and scowled, |
| Free Minds | Then he frowned and became bad tempered. |
| Qaribullah | frowned and scowled; |

| George Sale | and frowned, and put on an austere countenance: |
| JM Rodwell | Then frowned and scowled, |

| Asad | and then he frowns and glares, |
| 74:23 ثم ادبر واستكبر |
| |

| Transliteration | Thumma adbara waistakbara |
| Literal | Then he gave his back and he became arrogant. |

| Yusuf Ali | Then he turned back and was haughty; |
| Pickthal | Then turned he away in pride |
| Arberry | then he retreated, and waxed proud. |
| Shakir | Then he turned back and was big with pride, |
| Sarwar | then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, |
| Khalifa | Then he turned away arrogantly. |
| Hilali/Khan | Then he turned back and was proud; |
| H/K/Saheeh | Then he turned back and was arrogant |
| Malik | then he turned his back in scornful pride[23] |
| QXP | And then he turned away in pride. |
| Maulana Ali | Then turned back and was big with pride, |
| Free Minds | Then he turned away and was arrogant. |
| Qaribullah | then he retreated and grew proud |
| |
|
| George Sale | Then he turned back, and was elated with pride; |
| JM Rodwell | Then turned his back and swelled with disdain, |
| |
|
| Asad | and in the end he turns his back [on Our message], and glories in his arrogance, |
| 74:24 فقال ان هذا الا سحر يؤثر |

| Transliteration | Faqala in hatha illa sihrun yu/tharu |
| Literal | So he said: "That truly that (is) except magic/sorcery to be traced (followed/copied) ." |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; |
| Pickthal | And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; |
| Arberry | He said, 'This is naught but a trumped-up sorcery; |
| Shakir | ~Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); |
| Sarwar | said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. |
| Khalifa | He said, "This is but clever magic! |
| Hilali/Khan | Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; |
| H/K/Saheeh | And said, "This is not but magic imitated [from others]. |
| Malik | and said: "This is nothing but a magic from the old,[24] |
| QXP | And said, "All this is a remnant of ancient magic. |
| Maulana Ali | Then said: This is naught but magic from an old! |
| Free Minds | So he said: "This is nothing but the magic of old." |
| Qaribullah | and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; |
| |
|
| George Sale | and he said, this is no other than a piece of magic, borrowed from others: |
| JM Rodwell | And said, “This is merely magic that will be wrought; |
| |
|
| Asad | and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! |
| 74:25 ان هذا الا قول البشر |
| |
|
| Transliteration | In hatha illa qawlu albashari |
| Literal | That truly that (is) except the human's word/opinion and belief . |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" |
| Pickthal | This is naught else than speech of mortal man. |
| Arberry | 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' |
| Shakir | This is naught but the word of a mortal. |
| Sarwar | These are only words from a mere mortal". |
| Khalifa | "This is human made." |
| Hilali/Khan | "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" |
| H/K/Saheeh | This is not but the word of a human being." |
| Malik | this is nothing but the word of a human being."[25] |
| QXP | This is nothing but the speech of a human." |
| Maulana Ali | This is naught but the word of a mortal! |
| Free Minds | "This is nothing but the words of a human." |
| Qaribullah | It is nothing but the word of a mortal! ' |

| George Sale | These are only the words of a man. |
| JM Rodwell | It is merely the word of a mortal.” |

| Asad | This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" |
| 74:27 وماادراك ماسقر |
| |
|
| Transliteration | Wama adraka ma saqaru |
| Literal | And what makes you know what Hell (is)? |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | And what will explain to thee what Hell-Fire is? |
| Pickthal | - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - |
| Arberry | and what will teach thee what is Sakar? |
| Shakir | And what will make you realize what hell is? |
| Sarwar | Would that you really knew what hell is! |
| Khalifa | What retribution! |
| Hilali/Khan | And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? |
| H/K/Saheeh | And what can make you know what is Saqar? |
| Malik | What will make you understand, what Saqar is?[27] |
| QXP | Ah, what will convey unto you what Saqar is! |
| Maulana Ali | And what will make thee realize what hell is? |
| Free Minds | And do you know what is Scorching heat? |
| Qaribullah | What will let you know what the Scorching is like! |
| |

| George Sale | And what shall make thee to understand what hell is? |
| JM Rodwell | And who shall teach thee what Hell-fire is? |
| |

| Asad | And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? |
| 74:28 لاتبقي ولاتذر |
| |
|
| Transliteration | La tubqee wala tatharu |
| Literal | (It) does not protect/have mercy , and nor it leaves. |
| |
|
| Yusuf Ali | Naught doth it permit to endure, and naught doth it leave alone!- |
| Pickthal | It leaveth naught; it spareth naught |
| Arberry | It spares not, neither leaves alone |
| Shakir | It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. |
| Sarwar | It leaves and spares no one and nothing. |
| Khalifa | Thorough and comprehensive. |

| Literal | And We did not make the fire's owners/company (guards) except angels, and We did not make their number/count except (as) a test to those who disbelieved, who were given/brought The Book (Jews and Christians) to be sure/certain, and (for) those who believed (to) increase faith/belief; and (for) those who weregiven The Book (Jews/Christians), and the believers do not become doubtful/suspicious, and (for) those whom in their hearts/minds (is) sickness/disease (doubt), and the disbelievers to say: "What (has) God wanted/intended with that (as) an example/proverb?" As/like that God misguides whom He wills/wants ,and He guides whom He wills/wants, and none know your Lord's soldiers/warriors except Him, and it is not except a reminder to the human. |

Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. |
| Khalifa | We appointed angels to be guardians of Hell, and we assigned their number (19) (1) to disturb the disbelievers, (2) to convince the Christians and Jews (that this is a divine scripture), (3) to strengthen the faith of the faithful, (4) to remove all traces of doubt from the hearts of Christians, Jews, as well as the believers, and (5) to expose those who harbor doubt in their hearts, and the disbelievers; they will say, "What did GOD mean by this allegory?" GOD thus sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills. None knows the soldiers of your Lord except He. This is a reminder for the people. |

Thus Allah leads astray whom He wills and guides whom He wills. And none can know the hosts of your Lord but He. And this (Hell) is nothing else than a (warning) reminder to mankind. |
