and the clear Book.
We brought it down in a blessed night. We have indeed warned.
In it, every wise command is made distinct.
A command from Us that We are sending out;
a mercy from your Lord. He is the Hearer, the Knowledgeable.
He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and what is between them, if only you had certainty.
There is no god except Him. He brings to life and puts to death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.
Yet they play around in doubt.
So watch out for a day when the sky brings forth a distinctive smoke
that covers the people; this is a painful punishment.
"Our Lord, remove the punishment from us; we are believers."
How can there be a reminder for them when a clear messenger had already come to them,
then they turned away from him and said, "An educated madman"?
Indeed, We will lift the punishment a little. Indeed, you will revert.
The Day We strike the great strike; We will surely inflict retribution.
We have tested before them the people of Pharaoh, and a noble messenger came to them:
"Deliver to me the servants of God. I am a trustworthy messenger to you.
And do not exalt yourselves above God. I come to you with clear authority.
I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me.
If you do not believe in me, then leave me alone."
So he called out to his Lord, "These are a criminal people."
"Travel with My servants during the night. Indeed, you will be pursued.
And leave the sea parted as it is. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned."
How many gardens and springs did they leave behind,
and crops, and a noble position,
and a luxury in which they had been joyful!
So it was, and We made other people inherit it.
Neither the heaven nor the earth wept over them, and they were not granted respite.
We saved the Children of Israel from the humiliating punishment
of Pharaoh. He was haughty and among the excessive ones.
We have chosen them knowingly over all people,
and We gave them signs containing a clear test.
Indeed, these will say,
"It is nothing but our first death, and we will not be resurrected.
Bring our fathers back then if you are truthful."
Are they better or the People of Tubbaa and those before them whom We annihilated? Indeed, they were criminals.
We did not create the heavens and the earth and what is between them for mere play.
We did not create them except with the truth, but most of them do not know.
The Day of Decision is the appointed time for them all.
The Day when no friend can avail a friend in any way nor will they be helped,
except for those who are shown mercy by God. Indeed, He is the Dignified, the Merciful.
The tree of Zaqqum
is the food of the sinful.
Like molten brass, it boils in the bellies
like the boiling of scalding liquid.
Take him and drag him into the midst of Hellfire.
Then pour over his head some of the torment of the scalding liquid.
"Taste! Indeed, you are the dignified, the noble!"
This is what you used to doubt.
Indeed, the reverent will be in a secure place,
in gardens and springs,
wearing silk and brocade, facing one another.
So shall it be. And We will pair them with companions with beautiful eyes.
They will call there for every kind of fruit while perfectly secure.
They do not taste death therein beyond the first death, and He has shielded them from the punishment of Hellfire;
a favour from your Lord. Such is the great triumph.
We have made it easy and in your tongue so that they may be reminded.
So keep on the watch; they too are keeping watch.
