Surah “The Most High, Glory to your Lord in the Highest”

as rendered by N J Dawood (2014) — 19 verses

PRAISE THE Name of your Lord, the Most High
who created all things and gave them due proportion
who has ordained their destinies and guided them
who brings forth the green pasture
then turns it to withered grass
We shall make you read, so that you shall never forge
except as God pleases. He has knowledge of the manifest, and the hidden
We shall guide you to the smoothest path
Therefore admonish, if admonishment will avail
He that fears God will pay heed
but the wretched sinner will flout it
He shall burn in the gigantic Fire
wherein shall he then neither die nor live
Happy shall be he that keeps himself pure
that remembers the name of his Lord and prays
Yet you¹ prefer the life of this world
although the life to come is better and more lasting
This is surely set down in earlier Scriptures
the Scriptures of Abraham and Moses
