Surah “The Sun”

as rendered by Zulfiquar Ali Bhotto — 15 verses

By the sun and its morning brightness,
By the moon when it followed it [the sunlight],
By the day when it displayed it [the sunlight],
By the night when it hides it [the sunlight],
By the sky and whatever constituted it [stars, planets],
By the earth and whatever spread there [creatures on the earth],
By the soul and what it formed there [on the earth, the human];
Then He inspired it [the soul, with discernment of] its wickedness and its righteousness.
He already succeeded who purified it [the soul],
And certainly he failed who corrupted it.
Thamud [people of Salih] belied in defending their transgression,
When their most wicked rushed ahead,
So [Salih] the messenger of Allah said to them, "[Do not harm] the she-camel of Allah, and her drink."
But they belied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction with their misdeed and He leveled it.
And He [Allah] does not fear its aftermath.
