Surah “The Heights, The Elevated Places”

as rendered by Zulfiquar Ali Bhotto — 206 verses

7:1
Alif [Common sense], Lam [Self referencing], Meem [Natural Sciences], Sad [Abrogated nations].
7:2
A Book was sent down to you [O Muhammad], so there should not be in your breast any doubt from its [wisdom verses, Qur'an 7:1] for warning with it, and a reminder for the believers.
7:3
Follow what was sent down to you [O humans] from your Lord, and do not follow other than Him, any protector. Little is what you are remembering.
7:4
And [remember] how many towns We have destroyed, and Our punishment came upon them at night or while they were sleeping at noon.
7:5
Then their cry when Our punishment came to them was not except that they said, "Indeed, we were oppressors!"
7:6
So We will surely question those to whom [a message] was sent, and We will surely question the messengers.
7:7
And We will surely relate [their accounts] upon them with knowledge, and We were not absentee.
7:8
And the truth [Qur'an] will be the weighing [of their deeds, beliefs] on that Day. So he whose scales are heavy, then those, they would be the successful ones.
7:9
And he whose scales are light, then those are the ones who lost themselves, about what they were oppressing about Our verses.
And We have certainly conditioned, situated your [physique, nature] to rule upon the earth and made for you therein livelihoods. Little is what you are thanking.
And indeed We have already created you, then have shaped you, then We said to the angels [in response to, Qur'an 2:33], "Prostrate to Adam"; so they prostrated, except Iblees. He was not of those who prostrated.
[Allah] said, "What prevented you from prostrating when I commanded you?" [Iblees] said, "I am better than him. You created me from a fire and you created him from clay."
[Allah] said, "Then go down from Paradise [to the Earth], for it is not [the Earth] for you that you can be arrogant here. So exit out. Indeed, you are of the debased.
[Iblees] said, "Respite me until the Day [the well known day, Qur'an 15:38, Qur'an 38:79, Qur'an 38:81] they are to be sent off [to the Earth, Qur'an 7:10]."
[Allah] said, "Indeed, you are of those reprieved."
[Iblees] said, "For by what You have caused me to error [the hear and obey command], I will surely sit in wait for them [inciting the hear and disobey, response] on Your straight path.
Then I will come to them from between their hands, and from their behinds, and on their rights and on their lefts, and You will not find most of them [jinn and human] grateful."
[Allah] said, "Exit yourself out of this reproached and rejected mindset. Certainly whoever follows you from them, I will surely fill Hell from you, altogether."
And "O Adam, dwell, you and your kind, in Paradise and eat from wherever both of you wish; but do not approach this tree, lest both of you be of the oppressors."
So Satan whispered to them, to show what was hidden from them, their private parts but he lied, "Your Lord did not forbid you this tree except that you two become angels or become of the immortal."
And he swore to them, "Indeed, I am to you from the advisers."
So he made them fall, through deception. And when they tasted the tree, their private parts became manifest to them, and they began to fasten together over themselves from the leaves of Paradise [to restore the sanctity of their lineage relation, Qur'an 7:189, Qur'an 25:54]. And their Lord called to them, "Did I not forbid you from that tree and tell you that Satan is to you an obvious enemy?"
They said, "Our Lord, we have oppressed ourselves [exposing our private parts, by not following the hear and obey command]. And if You do not forgive us and grant us mercy, we will surely be of the losers."
[Allah] said, "Go down you all [Qur'an 7:13, Adam, Eve], some of you enemies to some others. You will find on the earth a residence and an enjoyment till a while."
He said, "Therein you will live, and therein you will die, and from it you will be exiting out."
O children of Adam, verily, We have sent down upon you clothing [sense of sanctity, honour] to conceal your nakedness [sense of profanity, humiliation] and as adornment. But the clothing [honour] of righteousness, that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they may remember.
O children of Adam, let not allow Satan to test you [as with such naivety Qur'an 20:115] He exits your parents out disgracefully from the Paradise stripping them from their clothing to show each other their private parts [broke the sanctity of their lineage relation, Qur'an 7:189, Qur'an 25:54, they preserved]. You cannot see them and so you cannot see from where he and his tribe see you [Qur'an 7:17, all your parts]. We have set up the devils as allies for those who do not believe.
And when they did an obscenity [showing private parts], they said, "We found our fathers upon it, and Allah has commanded us about it [i.e., obscenity]." Say, "Indeed, Allah does not command about that [obscenity]. Are you saying on Allah what you do not know?"
Say [O Muhammad], "My Lord has commanded you to do justice to Him and to establish your faces at every Masjid, and invoke Him, being sincere to Him in the religion." Such that He originated you [in purity], you will return [to purity, by doing so].
A party He has guided, and a party He has made upon them the straying come true. Indeed, they had taken other than Allah as their guardians, the devils. And they thought that they were guided.
O children of Adam, take your adornment at every masjid, and eat and drink, but do not waste. Indeed, He does not love the persons who waste.
Say, "Who has forbidden the adornment of Allah which He has made for His slaves and the good things of livelihood?" Say [forward], "This question is to those who believe exclusively the Day of Resurrection, during the life of this world." Likewise [by questioning] We explain the verses to a people who know.
Say, "My Lord has only forbidden obscenities, what is obvious of it and what is secret, and the sinning, and the pride without the truth, and that you associate with Allah about which He has not sent down any authority, and that you say against Allah what you do not know."
And for every nation has a term [Qur'an 3:26]. So [for disregarding, Qur'an 7:33] when their term has to come, they cannot delay it, nor can they advance it an hour [for a messenger to come].
O children of Adam, when there come to you messengers from you, relating upon you My verses [reasons of their mission, Qur'an 7:33], then whoever fears and reforms, then there will be no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.
But those who belied within Our verses and are proud of themselves [without the truth, Qur'an 7:33], those - are the companions of the Fire; they will abide therein for ever.
And who is more oppressor than one who invented a lie against Allah or belied within His verses? Those will attain their portion of the Book until when there comes to them Our messengers to recall in them [their `partners' Qur'an 7:33, Qur'an 6:76-78], they said, "Where is whatever you were invoking other than Allah?" They said, "They have strayed from us," and they shall bear witness against themselves that they were infidels.
[Allah] said, "Enter in communities which had passed on before you of the jinn and mankind in the Fire." Every time a nation entered, it curses its sister until, when they have all overtaken one another in it altogether, the last of them said to the first of them "Our Lord, these had misled us, so give them a double punishment of the Fire. He said, "For each is double, but you do not know."
And the first of them said to the last of them, "So there was for you over us no superiority, so taste the punishment about what you were earning [Qur'an 7:33]."
Indeed, those who belied within Our verses and became proud of themselves [without the truth, Qur'an 7:33], the gates of Heaven will not be opened for them, nor will they enter Paradise, until the camel enters into the eye of a needle. And thus We recompense the criminals.
For them from Hell is a bed and [flame] coverings over them. And thus do We recompense the oppressors.
But those who believed and worked the righteous deeds, We do not charge a soul except [within] its capacity. Those are the companions of Paradise, they will dwell therein for ever.
And We removed whatever is in their breasts of a grudge, flowing from beneath them are the rivers. And they will say, "Praise be to Allah, who has guided us to this; and we would not be guided if not that Allah had guided us. Certainly the messengers of our Lord brought the Truth." And they would be called that: "This is Paradise, which you have been made to inherit - about what you were working on [in effect- Qur'an 7:42]."
And the companions of Paradise will call out to the companions of Fire, "We have indeed found what our Lord promised us was truth. So did you also find what your Lord promised was truth?" They said, "Yes". Then an announcer announced between them that: "The curse of Allah upon the oppressors."
Those who hinder [people] from the way of Allah and seek to make it crooked while they are concerning the Hereafter infidels.
And between them exists a partition, and on the Heights would be men who will recognize all persons by their marks. And they will call out to the companions of Paradise that: "Peace be upon you." They have not entered it, but they are longing [to enter].
And when their [i.e., the heights companions'] eyes were turned towards the companion of Fire, they said, "Our Lord, do not set us up with the people, the oppressors."
And the companions of the Heights cried out to men [within Hell], they recognized them by their marks, they said, "Your gathering did not avail on you and what you were arrogant on [worshiping Allah]."
[Allah will say], "Are these the ones whom you [companions of Hell] swore that Allah will not grant them of His mercy? Enter Paradise, [O companions of the Heights]. No fear will there be upon you, nor will you grieve."
And the companions of the Fire cry out to the companions of Paradise that: "Pour upon us from the water or from whatever [cooling] Allah has provided you." They said, "Indeed, Allah has forbidden both upon the infidels,
Those who took their religion as amusement and a play and the worldly life deluded them." [Allah will say], "So today We will forget them just as they forgot the meeting of this Day of theirs and what they were rejecting about Our verses".
And indeed We have already brought them with a Book, based on knowledge, which We explained upon knowledge, as guidance and mercy to a people who believe [in Allah].
Do they await for its final interpretation? The Day its final interpretation shall come, those who forgot it before will say, "The messengers of our Lord did bring with the truth. So are there any intercessors who will intercede for us or could we be sent back to work other than that we were working?" They already have lost themselves, and astray from them is what they were inventing.
Indeed, your Lord is Allah; The one who created the heavens and earth in six days, then He settled, turned, switched, prepared the Throne on. He overwhelms the night, the day [the space-time dimension] to pursue it [the Throne] eagerly and [in the space-time surface, He overwhelms] the sun, and the moon, and the stars; all rolling with sound by His command. Verily, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.
Call upon your Lord in humility and in private. Indeed, He does not love the transgressors.
And do not cause corruption on the earth after its reformation [from its corrupt history]. And call Him in fear and aspiration. Indeed, the mercy of Allah should be welcoming from the good doers.
And He is the one who sends the winds as good sign between the two hands of His Mercy until, when they have carried heavy rainclouds, We drove them to a dead land and We send down therein the water and We brought forth thereby all kinds of fruits. Thus will We exit out the dead; perhaps you may be remembering.
And the good land - its vegetation exits by permission of its Lord; but the land which is bad - nothing exits except sparsely, with difficulty. Thus do We diversify the signs for a people who are thankful.
We certainly sent Noah to his people, and he said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no God other than Him. Indeed, I fear upon you the punishment of a dreadful Day.
The chief leaders of his people said, "Indeed, we see you are in obvious astray."
[Noah] said, "O my people, there is no astray about me, but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
I convey to you the messages of my Lord and advise you; and I know from Allah what you do not know.
Why are you astonished that there has come to you reminder from your Lord, upon a man from you, to warn you? And to make you fear [Allah], and perhaps you may receive mercy."
But they belied him, so We saved him and those who were with him in the ship. And We drowned those who belied about Our signs. Indeed, they were a blind people [Qur'an 11:40].
And to [the people of] Aad, [We sent] their brother Hud. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; You have no God other than Him. Then will you not fear Him?"
The chief leaders of those who disbelieved from his people said, "Indeed, we see you are indeed in foolishness, and indeed, we certainly think you are of the liars."
[Hud] said, "O my people, there is no foolishness in me; but I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
I convey to you the messages of my Lord, and I am to you a trustworthy adviser.
Why are you astonished that there has come to you a reminder from your Lord on a man from you, to warn you? And remember when He made you successors after the people of Noah and increased you in the making extensively. So remember the bounties of Allah perhaps you may prosper."
They said, "Have you come to us that we should worship Allah alone and leave what our fathers were worshipping? Then bring to us about what you promise us, if you should be of the truthful ones."
[Hud] said, "Uncleanness and wrath have already occurred upon you from your Lord. Are you arguing with me concerning [mere] names you have named them, you and your fathers, about which Allah has sent down no authority? Then wait; indeed, I am with you of those who wait."
So We saved him and those with him by mercy from Us. And We cut off the roots of those who belied about Our verses, and they were not believers.
And to [the people of] Thamud, [We sent] their brother Salih. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; You have no God other than Him. There has come to you a proof from your Lord [a kind other than humankind to confirm Salih, Qur'an 54:24-30]. This is the she-camel of Allah. It is for you a sign. So leave her to eat in Allah's land and do not touch her with harm, so a painful punishment seizes you.
And remember when He made you successors after [the people of] Aad and settled you in the earth. You are building for yourselves from its plains palaces and carve from the mountains, homes. Then remember the bounties of Allah and do not commit evil on the earth, spreading corruption."
The chief leaders who were arrogant from his people said to those who were deemed weak, to those who believed from them, "Do you know that Salih is sent from his Lord?" They said, "Indeed we, in that which he was sent with, are believers."
Those who were arrogant said, "Indeed we, in that you have believed in, are infidels."
So they hamstrung the she-camel [as it confirmed Salih] and were insolent on the command of their Lord and said, "O Salih, bring upon us that which you promise us with, if you are of the messengers."
So the earthquake seized them, so morning found them prostrate in their home.
And [Salih] turned away from them, and said, "O my people, I had certainly conveyed to you the message of my Lord and advised you, but you do not love the advisors."
And [We sent] Lot when he said to his people, "Do you commit lewdness [that was] not preceded you in it any one from the worlds?
Indeed, you come to the men with desire rather than the women. No but is there! you are an extremist people."
But what was the answer of his people except that they said, "Exit them out from your town. Indeed, they are men who keep themselves pure."
So We saved him and his family, except his woman; she was of those who stayed behind.
And We rained down upon them a rain [of brimstone]. Then see how was the end of criminals?
And to [the people of] Madyan, [We sent] their brother Shuaib. He said, "O my people, worship Allah; you have no God other than Him. There has already come to you a proof from your Lord. So give full measure and the weight and do not deprive people in their things and do not cause [financial] corruption in the earth after its repair. That is better for you, if you are believers.
And do not sit on every path, threatening and averting from the way of Allah, those who believe in Him; and you seek in it crookedness. And remember when you were few, then He increased you. And see how was the end of corrupters.
And if there should be a group from you who has believed in what I was sent with it and a group that has not believed, then be patient until Allah establishes [the end of corrupters, Qur'an 7:86] between us. And He is the best of establishers."
The chief leaders from his people who were arrogant said, "We will surely exit you out, O Shuaib, and those who believed with you from our town, or you shall return in our religion." [Shuaib] said, "Even though we were the ones who hate that?
Verily, We shall have forged against Allah a lie if we had returned to your religion after Allah had saved us from it. And it is not for us to return in it except that Allah, our Lord, should will. Our Lord has encompassed every thing in knowledge. Upon Allah we have relied. Our Lord, conquer [the ones threatening to evict, Qur'an 7:88] between us and between our people in the truth, and You are the best of the conquerors."
The chief leaders from his people who disbelieved said, "If you follow Shuaib, indeed, you would then be losers."
So the earthquake seized them in death, and morning found them prostrate in their homes.
Those who belied Shuaib were as though they had never prospered therein. Those who belied Shuaib, they were the losers [Qur'an 7: 89, 87, done].
And [Shuaib] turned away from them and said, "O my people, certainly I already conveyed you messages of my Lord and gave advice to you, so how should I grieve upon a people who are infidels?"
And We did not send in a town any prophet except that We took its people with the poverty and the hardship, perhaps they may humble themselves.
Then We changed in place of the evil, the good, until they increased and said, "Our fathers already were touched with hardship and ease." So [for considering it just a natural cycle of life] We seized them suddenly while they do not perceive.
And if the people of the towns believed and feared [Allah], We would have widely opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth; but they belied [like Qur'an 7:95]. So We seized them in what they were earning."
Then, did the people of the towns feel secure that Our adversity would be coming to them at night, while they were asleep?
Or did the people of the towns feel secure that Our adversity would be coming upon them in the morning, while they were at play?
Then did they feel secure from the plan of Allah? But no one feels secure from the plan of Allah except the people who are the losers.
Is it not a guide to those who inherited the earth after its people that if We willed, We could punish them in their sins; and seal upon their hearts, so that they would not be hearing?
Those towns, We relate on you [O Muhammad] from their news. And certainly there came to them their messengers with the proofs, but they were not to believe in that which they belied before. Thus does Allah seal over the hearts of the infidels.
And We did not find for most of them any allegiance; with no less, We found most of them to be militant transgressors.
Then after them, We sent Moses with Our signs to Pharaoh and his chief leaders, so they oppressed about themselves. So see how was the end of the corrupters?
And Moses said, "O Pharaoh, Indeed I am a messenger from the Lord of the worlds.
Fruited upon me to not say over Allah except the truth. I have come to your [authority, lordship, dominion] with proof from your [you, your parents'] Lord, so send with me the children of Israel."
[Pharaoh] said, "If you [O Moses] have come with a sign, then bring it, if you should be of the truthful ones."
So [Moses] threw his staff [that a snake camouflaged as] and actually it was a serpent, manifesting [that camouflaging is a sign of Allah, found in nature].
And he drew out his hand [from argument or the opening of his garment]; thereupon it [his argument or light emitting germs, gels slathered his hand] was enlightening or whitening to the observers [Qur'an 28:32].
[One of] the chief leaders of the Pharaoh's people said, "Indeed, this is a learned magician
Who wants to exit you out [O chief leaders] from your land, so what do you instruct?"
They said, "Postpone him and his brother and send in the towns gatherers,
Who will bring you [O Pharaoh] with every learned magician."
And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us there is a reward, if we are the victors."
He said, "Yes, and indeed, you will be of those who are welcomed warmly."
They said, "O Moses, either you throw, or is it that we become, we as the thrower."
[Moses] said, "Throw [yours]." So when they threw, they bewitched the eyes of the people and frightened them, and came with a great magic.
And We revealed to Moses that: "Throw your staff." So then it [the snake camouflaged as staff] swallowed [the illusions] what they were faking.
So the truth occurred, and what they were working for, became futile.
So [Pharaoh and his people] were defeated there and became humiliated.
And the magicians fell down in prostration [to Allah].
They said, "We believed in the Lord of the worlds,
The Lord of Moses and Aaron."
Pharaoh said, "You believed in him [Moses] before that I gave permission to you. Indeed, this is surely a plot you have plotted in the town to exit out from it, its people. But soon you will know [its price].
I will indeed, indeed cut off your hands and your feet from opposite sides. Then I will surely crucify you all."
They said, "Indeed to our Lord we will [all] return.
And you [Pharaoh] are revenging, nothing of ours except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us. Our Lord, pour upon us patience and recall us [from the aftermaths of our misdeeds, Qur'an 20:73] as muslims [Qur'an 25:70]."
And [one] of the chief leaders of the people of Pharaoh said, "Will you [O Pharaoh] leave Moses and his people to spread corruption in the land and forsake you and your Gods?" [Pharaoh] said, "We will continue killing their sons and keeping their women alive; and indeed, we are subjugators over them."
Moses said to his people, "Seek help of Allah and be patient. Indeed, the earth belongs to Allah. He grants it as a heritage to whomever He wills of His slaves. And the [end] outcome is for the righteous."
They said, "We were harmed before that you came to us, and after what you brought us." He said, "Perhaps your Lord will destroy your enemy and make you inheritors in the earth; and He will see how you are working."
And We certainly seized the people of Pharaoh with years [of famine] and a shortage of fruits that perhaps they would be reminded.
But when good came to them, they said, "This is ours." And if an evil befell them, they point the bad writing about Moses and those with him. Verily, their bad writings are only with Allah, but most of them do not know.
And they said, "Whatever of a sign you bring us therein to enchant us with it, we will not be of those who believe for you."
So We sent upon them the flood, and the locusts, and the lice, and the frogs, and the blood, as clear signs, but they were arrogant and were a criminal people.
And when the penalty occurred on them, they said, "O Moses, call for us, your Lord in what He has promised you. If you remove the penalty from us, we will surely believe for you, and we will send with you the Children of Israel."
But when We removed the penalty from them until a term which they had to reach, then they broke their word.
So We took revenge from them, and drowned them in the sea because they belied Our signs and were heedless of them.
And We made the people who were being suffered [Qur'an 7:129], inheritors of the eastern parts of the land and its western parts, which We blessed therein. And the word of your Lord was fulfilled in the best upon the Children of Israel about what [the dream land- Qur'an 7:129] they had patiently endured. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people were making and what they were building [fulfilling- Qur'an 7:129].
And We took the Children of Israel across the sea; then they came upon a people devoted themselves on idols belonging to them. They said, "O Moses, make for us a god as such whatever gods they have." He said, "Indeed, you are an ignorant people.
Indeed, those [devotees] - destroyed is that which they are in, and worthless is whatever they were working."
He said, "Is it other than Allah I should seek for you as a god while He has preferred you over the worlds?"
And [remember,] when We saved you from the people of Pharaoh. They were afflicting you with evil torment, killing your newborn sons and letting your women alive. And therein was a great test from your Lord [who is the protector of the believers].
And We appointed Moses thirty nights and completed them with ten more; so he completed the appointed time with his Lord as forty nights. And Moses said to his brother Aaron, "Take my place within my people, be righteous, and do not follow the way of the corrupters."
And when Moses came to Our appointed time and his Lord spoke to him, he said, "My Lord, show me [Yourself] that I may look at You." [Allah] said, "You will not see Me, but look towards the mountain. So if it settles up its place, then you will see Me." But when his Lord revealed His glory to the mountain, He made it dust, and Moses fell down unconscious. Then when he was conscious, he said, "Exalted are You! I have repented to You, and I am the first of the believers."
[Allah] said, "O Moses, I have chosen you over the people, regarding My messages and regarding My words [to deliver]. So take what I have given you and be of the thanking ones."
And We wrote for him in the tablets an admonition of everything and details for everything: "So take them by force and enforce your people to take with the best of it. I will show you [people] the home of the defiantly disobedient people [their end - which is]
I will turn away from My verses [abrogate, take Torah back in response to their collective denial except a few, honouring their collective freewill]." Those who are proud in the earth without having the truth, and if they are seeing every sign, they will not believe in it [Qur'an]. And if they are seeing the way of righteousness, they will not adopt it as a way; but if they see the way of error, they will adopt it as a way. That is because they belied Our verses and were heedless of them.
Those who said lies about Our verses [Qur'an] and the meeting of the Hereafter, worthless would be their deeds. Can they be recompensed except what they were working for?
And the people of Moses took after his [departure], from their ornaments a calf, an image having a lowing sound. Did they not see that it could neither speak to them nor show them to the way [righteousness, Qur'an 7:146]? They took it [for worship], and they were oppressors.
And when [some health hazards] were made to plunge into their hands and they saw that they were already astray [i.e., loosing control of their hands], they said, "If our Lord does not have mercy upon us and forgive us, we will surely be of the losers."
And when Moses returned to his people, angry and grieved, he said, "Evil is that [destruction- Qur'an 7:139] which you have followed in my place after me [my warning - Qur'an 7:140]. Were you impatient over the matter of your Lord [Qur'an 7:138]?" And he threw down the tablets and seized his brother by his head, pulling him toward him. [Aaron] said, "O son of my mother, indeed the people weakened me and were about to kill me, so let not the enemies rejoice about me and do not set me with the oppressing people."
[Moses] said, "My Lord, forgive me and my brother and admit us into Your mercy, and You are the most merciful of the merciful ones."
Indeed, those who took the calf [for worship] there shall reach them anger from their Lord and humiliation in the life of this world, and thus do We recompense those who invent lies.
But those who worked evil deeds and then they repented after that and believed, indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiver, Merciful.
And when the anger calm down on Moses, he took up the tablets. And in their inscription was guidance and mercy for those who, they fear their Lord.
And Moses singled out from his people seventy men for Our appointment. And when the earthquake seized them, he said, "My Lord, if You had willed, You could have destroyed them before and me [too]. Would You destroy us about what the foolish among us had already done? Left this to be nothing except Your test through which You send astray whom You will and guide whom You will. You are our Protector, so forgive us and have mercy upon us; and You are the best of forgivers.
And decree for us an excellence in this life and in the Hereafter. Indeed, we turned back to You [in repentance]." [Allah] said, "My punishment, I afflict with it whomever I will, but My mercy encompasses everything. So I will decree it for those who fear [Me] and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses."
Those [among the people of the book] who follow [monitor, observe] the Messenger, the Prophet, the unlettered [with an open heart], only they would find him written [what is] with them in [the name of] the Taurat and the Injeel [not the arrogant ones]. He commands them in the right and forbids them from the wrong, and he makes lawful for them the pure things and makes unlawful upon them the impure things and he relieves from them their burden and the fetters which were upon them. So those who believe in him and honour him, and help him and follow the light which has been sent down with him. Those, they are the successful ones.
Say, [O Muhammad], "O mankind, indeed! I am a messenger of Allah to you all, of the one, to Him belongs the kingdom of the heavens and the earth. There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death." So believe in Allah and His Messenger, the unlettered prophet, who believes in Allah and His words [Qur'an 6:73]. And follow him, perhaps you may be guided.
And from the people of Moses is a community [a tribe, Qur'an 7:164] who guides with the truth and in that they act justly.
And We divided them into twelve descendant tribal communities. And We revealed to Moses when his people asked him for water [saying] that: "Strike with your staff the stone." So there gushed forth twelve springs from it. Every tribal people already knew their watering place. And We shaded on them the clouds and sent down manna and quails upon them [saying], "Eat of the good things whatever We have provided you." And they did not oppress Us, but they were oppressing themselves.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when it was said to them, "Dwell in this town and eat from it wherever you will and say, `Unburden', and enter the gate prostrating; We will forgive for you, your sins. Soon We will increase the doers of good."
So those who oppressed from them substituted [whatever of] a saying other than what had been said to them [to defend their oppression]. So We let loose against them a punishment from the sky, with what they were oppressing [Qur'an 2:59].
And ask them about the town that was by the sea, when they transgressed in [the matter of] the sabbath. When their fishing [fortune telling business] came to them openly on their sabbath day, and the day they had no sabbath they did not come to them. Thus did We give them trial in what they were rebellious.
And when a tribal community from them said, "Why do you warn a [fishing] people whom Allah would destroy or punish them with a severe punishment?" They [Qur'an 7: 159 ] said, "An excuse to your Lord and that perhaps they may fear."
So when they forgot what they had been reminded about, We saved those who had forbidden the evil [i.e., fishing] and seized those who oppressed with a wretched punishment, about what they were defiantly transgressing.
So when they scornfully persisted about what they had been forbidden thereof [fortune telling, lotting, Qur'an 7:163] We said to them, "Be despicable apes [militant atheist cabal]."
And [mention O Muhammad] when your Lord permitted that He would surely unleash against them till the Day of Resurrection, those who would afflict them with the evil punishment. Indeed, your Lord is swift in penalty; and indeed, He is Forgiver, Merciful.
And We broke them up into communities on the earth. Of them some were righteous, and of them some were otherwise. And We tested them with the good and evil that perhaps they may return [to the right path].
So succeeded after them successors who inherited the Book [while] taking goods of this low life [money, wealth of those apes] and say, "It will be forgiven for us." And if an offer like it comes to them, they will [again] take it. Was not the covenant of the Book taken upon them that they would not say upon Allah except the truth, and they studied what was therein? And the home of the Hereafter is better for those who fear [Allah], so will you not be reasoning [to understand]?
And those who are grasping the gist of the Book [Qur'an, by reasoning] and establish the prayers, indeed, We will not allow to be lost the reward of the reformers.
And [e.g., a reason for Qur'an 7:146] when We shook the mountain above them as if it were a canopy, and they thought that it would fall in them: "Hold to what We have brought you forcefully [against free will], and remember what is in it [the Torah]; perhaps you may fear."
And when your Lord took from the children of Adam - from their loins - their descendants and made them bear witness upon themselves, "Am I not your Lord?" They said, "No but is there! We have witnessed [you are]," lest you should say on the day of Resurrection, "Indeed, we were of this unaware."
Or [lest] you say, "It was only that our fathers associated with Allah before [us], and we were offspring after them. So would You destroy us regarding what the falsifiers did?"
And thus do We explain the verses in detail, and perhaps they may return [to the right path].
And recite upon them, [O Muhammad] the news of him [Qur'an 20:96] to whom we gave Our signs, but he turned away from them; so Satan followed him; so he became of those gone astray.
And if We had willed, We should have elevated him with those, but he inclined to the earth and followed his own desire. So his example is like that of the dog: if you chase him, he pants, or if you leave him, he [still] pants. That is the similitude of those who belied about Our verses. So relate the story that perhaps they may reflect.
Evil is the similitude of the people who belied about Our verses and themselves, they were oppressing.
Whoever Allah guides - he is the guided; and whoever He strays, so those, they are the losers.
And We have produced for Hell many of the jinn and the humans. They [jinn and mankind] have hearts [for intuition yet] they do not understand by it, they have eyes [to read body language yet] they do not see by it, and they have ears [to hear unmentionables yet] they do not hear by it. Those are like cattle. No but is there; they are astray. Those, they are the heedless.
And to Allah belongs the best names, so call Him by them. And leave those who are atheists concerning His names. They will be recompensed for what they were working.
And for whom We created to have a nation [prophet Muhammad, Ibrahim, Qur'an 16:120] they guide in the truth and therein they act justly.
But those who belied about Our verses, We will progressively lead them [towards believing in prophet Muhammad] from where they do not know.
And I will give time to them. Indeed, my plot is firm.
Do they not think? There is no Jinn possession in their companion. He is left to be nothing except an obvious warner.
Do they [pagans] not look into the kingdom of the heavens and the earth and [think how] Allah has created out of nothing and that perhaps that their term [becoming something after becoming nothing] is certainly proximal? So in what narration, after this, will they believe?
Whoever Allah strays then there is no guide for him. And He leaves them in their taghut, wandering blindly.
They ask you on the Hour, "When will it take place? Say, "Its knowledge is only with my Lord. None can reveal it as to its time, except Him. It lays heavily upon the heavens and the earth. It will not come upon you except suddenly." They ask you as if you are familiar on it. Say, "Its knowledge is only with Allah, but most of the people are not knowing."
Say, "I do not hold for myself [any control of] a benefit or a harm, except what Allah wills. And if I knew the unseen, I could have acquired abundance of the good, and the harm would not have touched me. I am left to be nothing except a warner and a bringer of glad tidings to a people who believe [in Allah]."
He is the one who created your [body, gender] from one soul and made from her [through female-male-female gender alteration] her mate that he [her mate] might dwell in security with her [in the dual procreation method]. And when he knows her [in the dual procreation method], she carries a light burden and continues therewith. And when She gets heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You should give us a righteous child, we will surely be of the thankful ones."
Then when He gives them a righteous child, they ascribe partners to Him through what He has given them [in their dual procreation]. But exalted is Allah above what they are associating.
Do they associate what does not create a thing while they themselves are created?
And they [whatever they associate] cannot do for them any help, nor can they help themselves.
And if you [believers] call them to the guidance, they will not follow you. It is the same upon you whether you call them or you keep silent.
Indeed, those whom you [polytheists, Jews, Christians] call upon other than Allah are slaves like you. So call them and let them respond to you, if you are truthful ones.
Do they have feet by which they walk? Or do they have hands by which they strike? Or do they have eyes by which they see? Or do they have ears by which they hear? Say, [O Muhammad], "Call your `partners' and then conspire against me and give me no respite.
Indeed, my protector is Allah, who has sent down the Book; and He protects the righteous.
But those you call other than Him neither can help you, nor can they help themselves."
And if you [believers] call them to the guidance, they do not hear. And you [O Muhammad] see them looking at you but they are not seeing.
Hold to forgiveness, command with the right [common sense], and turn away from the ignorant ones.
And if an impulse from Satan makes you impulsive, then seek refuge in Allah. Indeed, He is Hearer, Knowing.
Indeed, those who guard themselves [against Satan], when an impulse touches them from Satan, they remember [Allah] and then they become those who are seeing.
But their [godless] brothers, they plunge them in the error; then they do not cease [the impulse].
And when you, [O Muhammad], do not bring them a sign, they said, "Why don't you make up one?" Say, "I only follow what is revealed to me from my Lord." This [Qur'an] is enlightenment from your Lord, and guidance, and a mercy for a people who believe [in Allah].
And when the Qur'an is recited, then listen to it and pay attention, perhaps you [believers] may receive mercy.
And [O Muhammad] remember your Lord within yourself humbly, and in fear, and without loudness of the words in the mornings and the evenings. And do not be of the heedless.
Indeed, those who are near your Lord [O Muhammad] they do not turn away by arrogance from His worship, and they exalt Him, and to Him they prostrate.
