raised his voice in prayer/supplication , he humbled/abased himself with earnest supplication to God, Cried out/called for aid/succour
ja'ara
vb. (1) impf. act.
16:53
وَمَا بِكُمْ مِنْ نِعْمَة ٍ فَمِنَ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ إِذَا مَسَّكُمُ الضُّرُّ فَإِلَيْهِ تَجْأَرُونَ
Wa Mā Bikum Min Ni`matin Famina Allāhi Thumma 'Idhā Massakumu AĐ-Đurru Fa'ilayhi Taj'arūna
And any blessing that is with you is from God. Then, when harm afflicts you, to Him you cry out.
23:64
حَتَّى إِذَا أَخَذْنَا مُتْرَفِيهِمْ بِالْعَذَابِ إِذَا هُمْ يَجْأَرُونَ
Ĥattá 'Idhā 'Akhadhnā Mutrafīhim Bil-`Adhābi 'Idhā Hum Yaj'arūna
Until We take their carefree people with the retribution, then they will shout for help.
23:65
لاَ تَجْأَرُوا الْيَوْمَ إِنَّكُمْ مِنَّا لاَ تُنصَرُونَ
Lā Taj'arū Al-Yawma 'Innakum Minnā Lā Tunşarūna
Do not shout for help today, for you will not be helped against Us.
