(I swear) By the star when it sets
Your companion (Muhammad) does not err, nor is he deceived (or astray or is misled)
Nor does he speak out of (his own) desire
It (the Quran) is naught but revelation that is inspired (sent down to him)
Taught by one of mighty power, (The Archangel Gabriel
Endowed with wisdom; for he appeared in clear vision
While he was in the highest part of the horizon
Then he drew near, and descende
Until he was two bows distant or closer still
And He revealed to His servant what He revealed
The heart (of the Prophet) lied not in (making him see) what he saw
What! Do you then dispute with him as to what he saw
And certainly he saw him in another descent
At the Lote-tree of the furthest boundary
Near which is the Garden of Abode (or Presence)
When that which shrouds (in mystery) covered the Lote-tree
The eye did not swerve, nor did it exceed the limit (or was over bold or went wrong)
Certainly he saw of the Greatest Signs of his Lord
Have you seen Lat and Uzza
And Manat, the third, the last
What! For you the males and for Him the females
This indeed is an unjust division
They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which their souls incline to, even though true guidance has come to them from their Lor
Or shall man have whatever whims he wishes
Nay! To Allah belongs the after and the former life (or the End and the Beginning)
And how many so ever angels are in the heavens, their intercession does not avail at all except after Allah has given permission to whom He wills and chooses to accept
Most surely they who do not believe in the Hereafter name the angels with female names
And they have no knowledge of it; they do not follow anything but conjecture, and surely conjecture does not avail against the truth at all
Therefore, turn aside from him who turns his back upon Our reminder (or remembrance) and does not desire anything but the life of this world
That is their sum of knowledge; surely your Lord knows best him who goes astray from His path and He knows best him who follows the right direction
And to Allah belongs that which is in the heavens and that which is in the earth, that He may reward those who do evil according to what they do, and that He may reward those who do good with goodness
Those who keep aloof from the great sins and the indecencies, except the passing idea (or the unwilling or small offence); surely your Lord is liberal in forgiving. He knows you best when He brings you forth from the earth and when you are embryos in the
Have you then seen him who turns his back
And gives a little and then withholds
Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see (the future or the hidden)
Or, has he not been informed of what is in the scriptures of Moses
And of Abraham who fulfilled (the commandments or duties)
That no bearer of burdens shall bear the burden of another
And that man shall have nothing but what he strives for
And that his striving shall be seen
Then shall he be rewarded for it with the fullest reward
And that your Lord is the final goal
And that He it is Who makes men laugh and makes them weep
And that He it is Who causes death and gives life
And that He created pairs, the male and the female
From the small seed when it is placed (or lodged)
And that on Him depends (or He has ordained) the bringing forth a second time
And that He it is Who enriches and gives satisfaction (or fulfilment)
And that He is the Lord of Sirius
And that He did destroy the A´ad of ol
And Thamud He spared no
And the people of Noah before them; surely they were most unjust and insolent transgressors
And He destroyed the Overthrown Cities (of Sodom and Gomorrah)
So that they were covered with that which covers
Then about which of your Lord´s gifts will you dispute
This is a Warner of (the series or like) the Warners of old
The threatened event (or Hour) draws nigh
There is none besides Allah to disclose (or actualise) it
Marvel you then at this announcement
And will you laugh and not weep
While you are indulging in vanities
So make obeisance (or prostrations) to Allah and serve Him
