| | Muhammad Mahmoud Ghali rendition of Surah The Moon(al-Qamar) --- |
---|
54:1 | | The Hour (The Arabic noun is feminine) has drawn near, and the moon (The Arabic noun is masculine) is cloven |
54:2 | | And in case they see a sign, they veer away and say, "A continuous sorcery!" |
54:3 | | And they have cried lies and closely followed their prejudices; and every Command is settled |
54:4 | | And indeed there have already come to them such tidings wherein there is a scaring |
54:5 | | A consummate Wisdom; yet in no way do warnings avail |
54:6 | | So turn away from them. On the Day when the Caller will call to a highly maleficent thing |
54:7 | | With most submissive be holdings, they will go out of the graves as if they were locusts spread abroad |
54:8 | | With their heads protruding, (hurrying) to the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day!" |
54:9 | | The people of Nuh (Noah) cried lies before them; so they cried lies to Our bondman and said, "A madman, " and he was scared |
54:10 | | So, he invoked his Lord, (saying), "I am overcome, so vindicate me!" |
54:11 | | Then We opened the gates of the heaven to torrential water |
54:12 | | And We made the earth to erupt forth springs, so the waters met for a Command already estimated |
54:13 | | And We carried him upon (an Ark), well planked and well caulked, (Literally: comprising planks and caulks, with nails |
54:14 | | Running under Our Eyes, a recompense for him who was disbelieved. (i.e., between the she-camel and them |
54:15 | | And indeed We have already left it for a sign. Is there then any that will recollect |
54:16 | | How then were My torment and My warnings |
54:17 | | And indeed We have already made the Qur'an easy for remembrance. Is there then any that will recollect |
54:18 | | Aad cried lies. How then were My torment and My warnings |
54:19 | | Surely We sent against them a most clamorous wind in a day of ill-luck, continuous |
54:20 | | Plucking up mankind as if they were the stumps of uprooted palm-trees |
54:21 | | How then were My torment and My warnings |
54:22 | | And indeed We have already made the Qur'an easy for remembrance. Is there then any that will recollect |
54:23 | | Thamud cried lies to the warnings |
54:24 | | So they said, "Should we closely follow a mortal, one out of ourselves? Lo, surely we are indeed in error and insanity |
54:25 | | Has the Remembrance been cast upon him (alone) from among us? No indeed, (but) he is an insolent liar." |
54:26 | | They will (soon) know tomorrow who is the insolent liar |
54:27 | | Surely We are sending the she-camel as a temptation for them; so be on the watch for them and constantly (endure) patiently |
54:28 | | And fully inform them that the water is to a (fair) division between them; (i.e., between the she-camel and them) each drinking is for each presented in turn |
54:29 | | Then they called out their companion, so he took upon himself (the task); then he hamstrung her |
54:30 | | How then were My torment and My warnings |
54:31 | | Surely We sent against them one Shout; so they were as the chaff of a pen-builder |
54:32 | | And indeed We have already made the Qur'an easy for remembrance. Is there then any that will recollect |
54:33 | | The people of Lut (Lot) cried lies to the warnings |
54:34 | | Surely We sent against them a (squall of) gravel, except the house of Lut; (LOt) We safely delivered them before dawn |
54:35 | | A favor from Our Providence; thus We recompense him who thanks (Us) |
54:36 | | And indeed he had warned them of Our assault, yet they wrangled about the warnings |
54:37 | | And indeed they already solicited of him his guests, so We obliterated their eyes, (saying), "So taste My torment and My warnings!" |
54:38 | | And indeed there already came upon them before sunrise a settled torment |
54:39 | | "So taste My torment and My warnings!" |
54:40 | | And indeed We have already made the Qur'an easy for remembrance. Is there then any that will recollect |
54:41 | | And indeed the warnings already came (also) to the house of Firaawn; (Pharaoh |
54:42 | | They cried lies to Our signs, all of them, so We took them (away) with the taking of an Ever-Mighty, Supreme Determiner |
54:43 | | Are your steadfast disbelievers more charitable (3) than those ones? Or even do you have an acquittal (from torment) in the Zubur? (i.e., better |
54:44 | | Or do they say, "We, all together, will vindicate ourselves." |
54:45 | | Soon the gathering will be routed and (they) will turn their backs |
54:46 | | No indeed, (but) the Hour is their appointment, and the Hour is more calamitous and more bitter |
54:47 | | Surely the criminals are in error and insanity |
54:48 | | The Day (when) they are pulled into the Fire on their faces, (It will be said), "Taste (now) the touch of Saqar!" (The Scorching Fire |
54:49 | | Surely We created everything by a determined estimate |
54:50 | | And in no way is Our Command anything except one (Word), as the twinkling of the eye. (Literally: the power of beholding |
54:51 | | And indeed We have already caused your sects to perish; is there then any that will recollect |
54:52 | | And everything they have performed is in the Zubur. (Scriptures |
54:53 | | And every small and great thing is judiciously inscribed |
54:54 | | Surely the pious will (dwell) among Gardens and Rivers |
54:55 | | In (secure) seat (s) of Sincerity, in the Providence of a Supreme Determiner, an Ever-Pervading King |
