| | Sher Ali rendition of Surah The Moon(al-Qamar) --- |
---|
54:1 | | The Hour has drawn nigh, and the moon is rent asunder |
54:2 | | And if they see a Sign, they turn away and say, `An oft-repeated sorcery. |
54:3 | | They have rejected the truth and follow their own fancies. But for everything there is an appointed time |
54:4 | | And there has already come to them accounts of events containing warnings |
54:5 | | Consummate wisdom; but the warnings profit them not |
54:6 | | Therefore, turn thou away from them and await the day when the Summoner will summon them to a disagreeable thing |
54:7 | | While their eyes will be cast down and they will come forth from their graves as though they were locust scattered about |
54:8 | | Hastening towards the Summoner. The disbelievers will say, `This is a hard day. |
54:9 | | The people of Noah rejected the truth before them; they called Our servant a liar and said, `He is a madman, afflicted by our idols. |
54:10 | | So he prayed to his Lord: `I am overcome, so come thou to my help ! |
54:11 | | Thereupon WE opened the gates of heaven with water which fell in torrents |
54:12 | | And WE caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so the two waters met for a purpose that was decreed |
54:13 | | And WE carried him upon that which was made of planks and nails |
54:14 | | It floated on under Our eyes; a reward for him who had been denied |
54:15 | | And WE left it as a Sign for the succeeding generations. But is there anyone who would take heed |
54:16 | | How terrible, then, was MY punishment and how true MY warning |
54:17 | | And indeed, WE have made the Qur'an easy to remember. Is there anyone who would take heed |
54:18 | | The tribe of Ad rejected the truth. How terrible, then, was MY punishment and how true MY warning |
54:19 | | WE sent against them a furious wind on a day of unending ill-luck |
54:20 | | Tearing people away as though they were the hollow trunks of uprooted palm-trees |
54:21 | | How terrible, then, was MY punishment and how true MY warning |
54:22 | | And indeed, WE have made the Qur'an easy to remember. But is there anyone who would take heed |
54:23 | | The tribe of Thamud also rejected the Warners |
54:24 | | And they said, `What ! shall we follow a mortal, one out of ourselves? Then, indeed, we would be in manifest error, and suffering from madness |
54:25 | | `Has the Reminder been revealed to him alone of all of us? Nay, he is an impudent liar. |
54:26 | | Tomorrow will they know who is the impudent liar |
54:27 | | We will send the she-camel as a trial for them. So watch them, O Salih, and have patience |
54:28 | | `And tell them that the water is shared between her and them, every drinking time shall be attended. |
54:29 | | But they called their comrade and he seized a sword and hamstrung her |
54:30 | | How terrible, then, was MY punishment and how true MY warning |
54:31 | | WE sent against them a single blast, and they became like the dry stubble, whittled down by a maker of hedges |
54:32 | | And, indeed, WE have made the Qur'an easy to remember. But is there anyone who will take heed |
54:33 | | Lot's people also rejected the Warners |
54:34 | | WE sent a storm of stones upon them except the family of Lot, whom WE delivered by early dawn |
54:35 | | As a favour from US. Thus do WE reward him who is grateful |
54:36 | | And he, indeed, had warned them of Our severe punishment, but they doubted the warning |
54:37 | | And they deceitfully sought to turn him away from his guests. So WE blinded their eyes, and said, `Taste ye now MY punishment and MY warning. |
54:38 | | And there came upon them early in the morning a lasting punishment |
54:39 | | `Now taste ye MY punishment and MY warning. |
54:40 | | And, indeed, WE have made the Qur'an easy to remember. But is there anyone who will take heed |
54:41 | | And, surely, to the people of Pharaoh also came Warners |
54:42 | | They rejected all Our Signs. So WE seized them like the seizing of the Mighty, the Powerful |
54:43 | | Are your disbelievers better than those? Or, have you an immunity in the Scriptures |
54:44 | | Do they say, `We are a victorious host? |
54:45 | | The hosts shall soon be routed and shall turn their backs in flight |
54:46 | | Aye, the Hour is their promised time; and the Hour will be most calamitous for them and most bitter |
54:47 | | Surely, the guilty are in manifest error and suffer from madness |
54:48 | | On the day when they will be dragged into the Fire on their faces, it will be said to them, `Taste ye the touch of Hell. |
54:49 | | Verily, WE have created everything in due measure |
54:50 | | And Our command is carried out by only one Word as the twinkling of an eye |
54:51 | | And, indeed, WE have destroyed people like you before. But is there anyone who will take heed |
54:52 | | And everything they have done is recorded in the Books |
54:53 | | And every matter, small and great, is written down |
54:54 | | Verily, the righteous will be in the midst of Gardens and streams |
54:55 | | In an internal and honoured abode in the presence of the Omnipotent King |
