| | Aisha Bewley rendition of Surah The Moon(al-Qamar) --- |
---|
54:1 | | The Hour has drawn near and the moon has split. |
54:2 | | If they see a Sign they turn away, saying ´There is no end to this witchcraft!´ |
54:3 | | They have denied the truth and followed their whims and desires, but everything has its time. |
54:4 | | News has come to them which contains a threat: |
54:5 | | consummate wisdom but warnings are profitless. |
54:6 | | Turn away from them then. On the Day the Summoner summons them to something unspeakably terrible, |
54:7 | | they will emerge from their graves with downcast eyes, like swarming locusts, |
54:8 | | necks outstretched, eyes transfixed, rushing headlong to the Summoner. The kuffar will say, ´This is a pitiless day!´ |
54:9 | | Before them the people of Nuh denied the truth. They denied Our slave, saying, ´He is madman,´ and he was driven away with jeers. |
54:10 | | He called upon his Lord: ´I am overwhelmed, so help me!´ |
54:11 | | So We opened the gates of heaven with torrential water |
54:12 | | and made the earth burst forth with gushing springs. And the waters met together in a way which was decreed. |
54:13 | | We bore him on a planked and well-caulked ship, |
54:14 | | which ran before Our eyes a reward for him who had been rejected. |
54:15 | | We left it as a Sign. But is there any rememberer there? |
54:16 | | How terrible were My punishment and warnings! |
54:17 | | We have made the Qur´an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there? |
54:18 | | ´Ad denied the truth. How terrible were My punishment and warnings! |
54:19 | | We unleashed a howling wind against them on a day of unremitting horror. |
54:20 | | It plucked up men like uprooted stumps. |
54:21 | | How terrible were My punishment and warnings! |
54:22 | | We have made the Qur´an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there? |
54:23 | | Thamud denied the warnings. |
54:24 | | They said, ´Are we to follow a human being, one of us? Then we would truly be misguided, quite insane! |
54:25 | | Has the Reminder been given to him of all of us? No indeed! He is an impudent liar.´ |
54:26 | | ´They will know tomorrow who the impudent liar is. |
54:27 | | We will send the she-camel as a trial for them. Just keep a watchful eye on them and be steadfast. |
54:28 | | Inform them that the water is to be shared out between them, each drinking by turn.´ |
54:29 | | They called on their companion and he set to it and hamstrung her. |
54:30 | | How terrible were My punishment and warnings! |
54:31 | | We sent a single Blast against them and they were just like a thatcher´s reeds. |
54:32 | | We have made the Qur´an easy to remember. But is there any rememberer there? |
54:33 | | The people of Lut denied the warnings. |
54:34 | | We unleashed a sudden squall of stones against all of them, except the family of Lut, who We rescued before dawn. |
54:35 | | It was a blessing direct from Our presence. That is how We recompense those who give thanks. |
54:36 | | He warned them of Our onslaught but they dismissed the warnings. |
54:37 | | They even wanted to seduce his guests! So We put out their eyes: ´Taste My punishment and warnings!´ |
54:38 | | Early morning brought them enduring punishment: |
54:39 | | ´Taste My punishment and warnings!´ |
54:40 | | We have made the Qur´an easy to remember But is there any rememberer there? |
54:41 | | Warnings came to Pharaoh´s people. |
54:42 | | They dismissed every one of Our Signs and so We seized them with the seizing of One who is Almighty, All-Powerful. |
54:43 | | Are your kuffar better than those peoples´? Or have you been given exemption in the Books? |
54:44 | | Or do they say, ´We are an assembly who will win´? |
54:45 | | The assembly will be routed and will turn their backs in flight. |
54:46 | | In fact the Hour is their promised appointment and the Hour is more disastrous and bitter! |
54:47 | | The evildoers are indeed misguided and insane |
54:48 | | on the Day that they are dragged face-first into the Fire: ´Taste the scorching touch of Saqar!´ |
54:49 | | We have created all things in due measure. |
54:50 | | Our command is only one word, like the blinking of an eye. |
54:51 | | We destroyed those of your kind in the past. But is there any rememberer there? |
54:52 | | Everything they did is in the Books. |
54:53 | | Everything is recorded, big or small. |
54:54 | | The people who have taqwa will be amid Gardens and Rivers, |
54:55 | | on seats of honour in the presence of an All-Powerful King. |
