General Root Meaning
to protect/defend/preserve/abstain/save, keep any one safe from evil, prevent/hinder, hold fast, formally seek refuge. ismatun - defence, guardianship, prevention, preservation, protection, immunity from sin, virtue, chastity.
ya'simu (imp. 3rd. m. sing.): he will protect.
'asimun (act. pic. m. sing.): protector.
'isama (n. pl. its sing. is 'ismatun): bonds, ties, preventions, preservations (of marriage).
i'tasimuu (prf. 3rd. m. pl. vb. VIII): they held fast.
ya'tsim (impf. 3rd. m. sing. juss. vb. VIII): holds fast.
i'tasimu (prt. m. pl.): you hold fast.
ista'sama (prf. 3rd. m. sing.): he abstained, preserved oneself.
  
biʿiṣami   (1)

60:10
O you who believe! When come to you the believing women (as) emigrants, then examine them. Allah (is) most knowing of their faith. And if you know them (to be) believers, then (do) not return them to the disbelievers. Not they (are) lawful for them and not they are lawful for them. But give them what they have spent. And not any blame upon you if you marry them when you have given them their (bridal) dues. And (do) not hold to marriage bonds (with) disbelieving women, but ask (for) what you have spent, and let them ask what they have spent. That (is the) Judgment (of) Allah. He judges between you. And Allah (is) All-Knowing, All-Wise.

  
ʿāṣimin   (2)

10:27
And those who earned the evil deeds, (the) recompense (of) an evil deed (is) like it, and (will) cover them humiliation. Not they will have from Allah any defender. As if had been covered their faces (with) pieces from the night (of) darkness Those (are the) companions (of) the Fire, they in it (will) abide forever.

40:33
A Day you will turn back fleeing; not for you from Allah any protector. And whoever lets go astray Allah, then not for him any guide.

  
ʿāṣima   (1)

11:43
He said, "I will betake myself to a mountain, (that) will save me from the water." He said, "(There is) no protector today from the Command (of) Allah except, (on) whom He has mercy." And came (in) between them the waves, so he was among the drowned.

  
fa-is'taʿṣama   (1)

12:32
She said, "That (is) the one, you blamed me about him. And certainly I sought to seduce him, [from] [himself] but he saved himself, and if not he does what I order him, surely, he will be imprisoned and certainly will be of those who are disgraced."

4:175
So as for those who believed in Allah and held fast to Him, then He will admit them in Mercy from Himself and Bounty and will guide them to Himself (on) a way, straight.

4:146
Except those who repent and correct (themselves) and hold fast to Allah and are sincere (in) their religion for Allah, then those (will be) with the believers. And soon will give Allah the believers a reward great.

  
wa-iʿ'taṣimū   (2)

22:78
And strive for Allah (to) Him (with the) striving due. He (has) chosen you and not placed upon you in the religion any difficulty. (The) religion (of) your father Ibrahim. He named you Muslims from before and in this, that may be the Messenger a witness over you and you may be witnesses on the mankind. So establish the prayer and give zakah and hold fast to Allah. He (is) your Protector - so an Excellent [the] Protector and an Excellent [the] Helper.

3:103
And hold firmly to (the) rope (of) Allah all together and (do) not be divided. And remember (the) Favor (of) Allah on you when you were enemies then He made friendship between your hearts then you became by His Favor brothers. And you were on (the) brink (of) pit of the Fire then He saved you from it. Thus makes clear Allah for you His Verses so that you may (be) guided.

  
yaʿtaṣim   (1)

3:101
And how (could) you disbelieve while [you] is recited upon you (the) Verses (of) Allah and among you (is) His Messenger? And whoever holds firmly to Allah, then surely he is guided to a path straight.

  
yaʿṣimuka   (1)

5:67
O Messenger! Convey what has been revealed to you from your Lord, and if not you do then not you (have) conveyed His Message. And Allah will protect you from the people. Indeed, Allah (does) not guide the people, the disbelieving.

  
yaʿṣimukum   (1)

33:17
Say, "Who (is) it that (can) protect you from Allah If He intends for you any harm or He intends for you a mercy?" And not they will find for them from besides Allah any protector and not any helper.
