General Root Meaning
to separate/distinguish/divide/split/decide. farqun - the act of distinction or separating. fariq - who separates, discriminates. firqun - separate part, heap. firqatun - band of human beings. fariqun - part/portion, some party or band of human beings. furqan - criterion of right or wrong, draft, evidence or demonstration, a name of The Quran, aid, victory, argument, proof, dawn, distinction.
faraqa (vb. 2) to make a division or distinction, make a schism. tafriq - division, dissension.
faraqa (vb. 3) To quit, depart.
mutafarriqun - diverse, different. fariqa - to fear, be frightened, plunge in the wave, seek refuge in fear, succour. yafraqu - to be timid and afraid, appear in one's true colour, be cowardly, be ridden by fear.

(this), before (as) guidance for the mankind. And (He) revealed the Criterion. Verily, those who disbelieve[d] in (the) Verses Allah, for them (is) a punishment severe. And Allah (is) All-Mighty, All-Able (of) retribution.

And verily, We gave Musa and Harun the Criterion and a light and a Reminder for the righteous.

Blessed is He Who sent down the Criterion upon His slave that he may be to the worlds a warner -

And know that what you obtain (as) spoils of war of anything, then that, for Allah (is) one fifth of it and for the Messenger and for the near relatives, and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, if you believe in Allah, and (in) what We sent down to Our slave (on the) day (of) the criterion, (the) day (when) met the two forces. And Allah (is) on every thing All-Powerful.

And when are recited to them Our Verses clear, say those who disbelieved to those who believed, "Which (of) the two groups (is) better (in) position. and best (in) assembly?"

And how could I fear what you associate (with Allah) while not you fear that you have associated with Allah what Not he did send down for it to you any authority. So which (of) the two parties has more right to security if you know?"

(The) example (of) the two parties (is) like the blind and the deaf, and the seer and the hearer. Are they equal (in) comparison? Then, will not you take heed?

He has ordained for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Nuh, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Ibrahim and Musa and Isa. To establish the religion and not be divided therein. Is difficult on the polytheists what you call them to it. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns.

And (do) not be like those who became divided and differed from after what came to them - the clear proofs. And those for them (is) a punishment great.

And not they became divided until from after [what] came to them the knowledge (out of) rivalry, among them. And if not (for) a word (that) preceded from your Lord for a term specified, surely, it (would have) been s between them. Indeed, (there) was a party of My slaves (who) said, "Our Lord! We believe, so forgive us and have mercy on us, and You (are) best (of) those who show mercy."

And not (is) Allah unaware of what you do.

As brought you out your Lord from your home in truth, while indeed, a party among the believers certainly disliked.

And (do) not eat your properties among yourselves wrongfully and present [with] it to the authorities so that you may eat a portion from (the) wealth (of) the people sinfully while you know.

And not disbelieved Sulaiman [and] but the devils disbelieved, they teach the people [the] magic and what was sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. And not they both teach any one unless they [both] say, "Only we (are) a trial, so (do) not disbelieve." But they learn from those what [they] causes separation with it between the man and his spouse. And not they (could) at all [be those who] harm with it any one except by permission (of) Allah. And they learn what harms them and not profits them. And indeed they knew that whoever buys it, not for him in the Hereafter any share. And surely evil (is) what they sold with it themselves, if they were (to) know.
