General Root Meaning
to supply the place of another. anaaba - to repent and turn again and again and consecutively (to God) with sincere deeds.

38:34
And certainly We tried Sulaiman, and We placed on his throne a body; then he turned.

31:15
But if they strive against you on that you associate partners with Me what not you have of it any knowledge, then (do) not obey both of them. But accompany them in the world (with) kindness, and follow (the) path (of him) who turns to Me. Then towards Me (is) your return, then I will inform you of what you used (to) do."

13:27
And say those who disbelieved, "Why has not been sent down upon him a Sign from his Lord?" Say, "Indeed, Allah lets go astray whom He wills and guides to Himself whoever turns back,

Indeed, (there) is for you an example good in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people, "Indeed, we (are) disassociated from you and from what you worship from besides Allah. We have denied you, and has appeared between us and between you enmity and hatred forever until you believe in Allah Alone." Except (the) saying (of) Ibrahim to his father, "Surely I ask forgiveness for you, but not I have power for you from Allah of anything. Our Lord, upon You we put our trust, and to You we turn, and to You (is) the final return.

He said, "O my people! Do you see if I am on a clear evidence from my Lord, and He has provided me from Himself a provision good? And not I intend that I differ from you in what I forbid you from it. Not I intend except the reform from as much as I am able. And not (is) my success except with Allah. Upon Him I trust and to Him I turn.

42:10
And whatever you differ in it of a thing, then its ruling (is) to Allah. That (is) Allah, my Lord, upon Him I put my trust and to Him I turn.

And when touches [the] man adversity, he calls his Lord turning to Him; then when He bestows on him a favor from Himself, he forgets (for) what he used to call [to] Him from before, and he sets up to Allah rivals to mislead from His Path. Say, "Enjoy in your disbelief (for) a little. Indeed, you (are) of (the) companions (of) the Fire."

Turning to Him, and fear Him and establish the prayer and (do) not be of the polytheists

And when touches people hardship, they call their Lord turning to Him. Then when He causes them to taste from Him Mercy behold! A party of them with their Lord associate partners

He said, "Certainly, he has wronged you by demanding your ewe to his ewes. And indeed, many of the partners certainly oppress some of them [on] another except those who believe and do righteous deeds and few (are) they." And became certain Dawood that We (had) tried him, and he asked forgiveness (of) his Lord and fell down bowing and turned in repentance.

And those who avoid the false gods lest they worship them and turn to Allah, for them (are) glad tidings. So give glad tidings (to) My slaves

He (is) the One Who shows you His Signs and sends down for you from the sky provision. But (does) not take heed except (one) who turns.

He has ordained for you of the religion what He enjoined upon Nuh, and that which We have revealed to you, and what We enjoined upon Ibrahim and Musa and Isa. To establish the religion and not be divided therein. Is difficult on the polytheists what you call them to it. Allah chooses for Himself whom He wills, and guides to Himself whoever turns.
