General Root Meaning
to give thanks, be grateful, realize or acknowledge one's favour, praise. shukrun - giving thanks, gratitude. shaakirun - one who gives thanks or is grateful, appreciated and bountiful in reward.
   a-ashkuru   (1)

27:40
Said one who, with him (was) knowledge of the Scripture, "I will bring to you it before [that] returns to you your glance." Then when he saw it placed before him, he said, "This (is) from (the) Favor (of) my Lord, to test me whether I am grateful or I am ungrateful. And whoever (is) grateful then only he is grateful for his own soul. And whoever (is) ungrateful, then indeed, my Lord (is) Self-sufficient, Noble."

46:15
And We have enjoined (on) man to his parents kindness. Carried him his mother (with) hardship and gave birth to him (with) hardship. And (the) bearing of him and (the) weaning of him (is) thirty month(s) until, when he reaches his maturity and reaches forty year(s), he says, "My Lord, grant me (the) power that I may be grateful (for) Your favor which You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents and that I do righteous (deeds) which please You, and make righteous for me among my offspring, indeed, I turn to You and indeed, I am of those who submit."

27:19
So he smiled - laughing at her speech and said, "My Lord! Grant me (the) power that I may thank You (for) Your Favor which You have bestowed on me and on my parents and that I may do righteous (deeds), that will please You. And admit me by Your Mercy among Your slaves righteous."

And verily, We gave Luqman the wisdom that, "Be grateful to Allah." And whoever (is) grateful then only he is grateful for himself. And whoever (is) ungrateful, then indeed, Allah (is) Free of need, Praiseworthy.

31:14
And We have enjoined (upon) man for his parents - carried him his mother (in) weakness upon weakness, and his weaning (is) in two years that "Be grateful to Me and to your parents; towards Me (is) the destination.

He said, "O Musa! Indeed, I have chosen you over the people with My Messages and with My words. So take what I have given you and be among the grateful."

3:144
And not (is) Muhammad - except a Messenger, certainly passed away from before him [the] (other) Messengers. So if he died or is slain will you turn back on your heels? And whoever turns back on his heels then never will he harm Allah (in) anything. And will reward Allah the grateful ones.

3:145
And not is for a soul that he dies except by (the) permission (of) Allah, (at a) decree determined. And whoever desires reward (of) the world - We will give him thereof; and whoever desires reward (of) the Hereafter We will give him thereof. And We will reward the grateful ones.

6:63
Say, "Who saves you from darkness[es] (of) the land and the sea, you call Him humbly and secretly, "If He saves us from this, surely we will be from the grateful ones."

7:189
He (is) the One Who created you from a soul single and made from it its mate that he might live with her. And when he covers her, she carries a burden light and continues with it. But when she grows heavy, they both invoke Allah, their Lord, "If You give us a righteous (child), surely we will be among the thankful."

10:22
He (is) the One Who enables you to travel in the land and the sea, until, when you are in the ships and they sail with them with a wind good, and they rejoice therein comes to it a wind stormy, and comes to them the waves from every place, and they assume that they are surrounded with them. They call Allah sincerely to Him (in) the religion, (saying), "If You save us from this, surely we will be among the thankful."

39:66
Nay! Allah but worship and be among the thankful ones.

They worked for him what he willed of elevated chambers and statues and bowls like reservoirs and cooking-pots fixed. "Work, O family (of) Dawood! (in) gratitude." But few of My slaves (are) grateful.

And thus We try some of them with others that they say, "Are these (whom) has favored Allah [upon them] from among us?" Is not Allah most knowing of those who are grateful?

If you disbelieve then indeed, Allah (is) free from need of you. And not He likes in His slaves ungratefulness. And if you are grateful He likes it in you. And not will bear bearer of burdens (the) burden (of) another. Then to your Lord (is) your return, then He will inform you about what you used to do. Indeed, He (is) the All-Knower of what (is in) the breasts.

Then We forgave you from after that, so that you may (be) grateful.

Then We revived you from after your death, so that you may (be) grateful.

Month (of) Ramadhaan (is) that was revealed therein the Quran, a Guidance for mankind and clear proofs of [the] Guidance and the Criterion. So whoever witnesses among you the month, then he should fast in it, and whoever is sick or on a journey then prescribed number (should from days other. Intends Allah for you [the] ease and not intends for you [the] hardship, so that you complete the prescribed period and that you magnify Allah for [what] He guided you so that you may (be) grateful.

And certainly helped you Allah in Badr while you (were) weak. So fear Allah so that you may (be) grateful.

O you who believe! When you stand up for the prayer, then wash your faces and your hands till the elbows and wipe your heads and your feet till the ankles. But if you are (in) a state of ceremonial imp then purify yourselves. But if you are ill or on a journey or has come anyone of you from the toilet or has (had) contact (with) the women and not you find water, then do (with) earth clean, then wipe your faces and your hands with it. Does Not intend Allah to make for you any difficulty but He intends to purify you and to complete His Favor upon you so that you may (be) grateful.

5:89
not will call you to account Allah for the thoughtless utterances in your oaths but He will call you to account for what you contracted (of) the oath. So its expiation (is) feeding (of) ten needy people of average (of) what you feed your families or clothing them or freeing a slave. But whoever (does) not find (that), then fasting (for) three days. That (is the) expiation (of) your oaths when you have sworn. And guard your oaths. Thus makes clear Allah to you His Verses so that you may (be) grateful.

16:14
And He (is) the One Who subjected the sea for you to eat from it meat fresh and that you bring forth from it, ornaments (that) you wear them. And you see the ships ploughing through it, and that you may seek of His Bounty, and that you may (be) grateful.

8:26
And remember when you (were) few (and) deemed weak in the earth fearing that might do away with you the men, then He sheltered you, and strengthened you with His help, and provided you of the good things so that you may (be) thankful.

If We willed, We (could) make it salty, then why not are you grateful?

And the camels and cattle - We have made them for you among (the) Symbols (of) Allah, for you therein (is) good. And they (will) say, "All praises (be) to Allah the One Who (has) removed from us the sorrow. Indeed, our Lord (is) surely Oft-Forgiving, Most Appreciative,

But they said, "Our Lord lengthen (the distance) between our journeys." And they wronged themselves, so We made them narrations and We dispersed them (in) a total dispersion. Indeed, in that surely (are) Signs for everyone, patient (and) grateful.

If He wills, He can cause to become still the wind then they would remain motionless on its back. Indeed, in that surely (are) Signs for everyone patient (and) grateful.

And verily We sent Musa with Our Signs, that "Bring out your people from the darkness[es] to the light. And remind them of the days (of) Allah." Indeed, in that surely (are) the signs for everyone patient and thankful.

Do not you see that the ships sail through the sea by (the) Grace (of) Allah that He may show you of His Signs? Indeed, in that surely (are) Signs for everyone (who is) patient, grateful.

Allah (is) the One Who made for you the night that you may rest in it, and the day giving visibility. Indeed, Allah (is) Full (of) Bounty to the people, but most (of) the people (do) not give thanks.

Did not you see [to] those who went out from their homes and they (were in) thousands (in) fear (of) [the] death? Then said to them Allah, "Die;" then He restored them to life. Indeed, Allah (is) surely Possessor (of) bounty for [the] mankind [and] but most (of) the people (are) not grateful.

And what (will be the) assumption (of) those who invent against Allah the lie (on) the Day (of) the Judgment? Indeed, Allah (is) surely Full (of) Bounty to the mankind, but most of them (are) not grateful.

And I follow (the) religion (of) my forefathers, Ibrahim, and Ishaq and Yaqub. Not was for us that we associate with Allah any thing. That (is) from (the) Grace (of) Allah upon us, and upon the mankind but most (of) the men (are) not grateful.

And indeed, your Lord (is) full of Bounty for the mankind, but most of them (are) not grateful.

That they may eat of its fruit. And not made it their hands. So will not they be grateful?
