Siin-Haa-Ra
General Root Meaning
To turn it/him from his course, way, or manner of being. The turning of a thing from its proper manner of being to another.
Lane says that "He (an enchanter) apparently turned the thing from its proper manner of being, making what was false to appear in the form of the true, or real; causing the thing to be imagined different from what it really was."
To deceive, delude, beguile, or outwit. The producing what is false in the form of truth. Embellishment by falsification and deceit. A kind of enchantment, or fascination which captivates the eye and the like. Skillful eloquence [something which is praiseworthy]. Early in the morning, or the first part of day (the time of), a little before daybreak, or the false dawn. Whiteness overspreading blackness. Food marred or spoilt. Having little milk, or large in her udder but having little milk. To guild, fascinate, bewitch, wheedle, turn anyone from, enchant, practice sorcery, hoax, deprive of understanding.

said Musa, "Do you say about the truth when it has come to you? magic (is) this? But (will) not succeed the magicians."

Then magic is this, or you (do) not see?

And they followed what recite(d) the devils over (the) kingdom (of) Sulaiman. And not disbelieved Sulaiman [and] but the devils disbelieved, they teach the people [the] magic and what was sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. And not they both teach any one unless they [both] say, "Only we (are) a trial, so (do) not disbelieve." But they learn from those what [they] causes separation with it between the man and his spouse. And not they (could) at all [be those who] harm with it any one except by permission (of) Allah. And they learn what harms them and not profits them. And indeed they knew that whoever buys it, not for him in the Hereafter any share. And surely evil (is) what they sold with it themselves, if they were (to) know.

20:71
He said, "You believe [to] him before [that] I gave permission to you. Indeed, he (is) your chief, the one who taught you the magic. So surely I will cut off your hands and your feet of opposite sides, and surely I will crucify you on (the) trunks (of) date-palms and surely you will know which of us (is) more severe (in) punishment and more lasting."

21:3
Distracted their hearts. And they conceal the private conversation, those who [they] wronged, "Is this except a human being like you? So would you approach the magic while you see (it)?"

He said, "You believed in him before [that] I gave permission to you. Indeed, he (is) surely your chief who has taught you the magic, so surely soon you will know. I will surely cut off your hands and your feet of opposite sides, and I will surely crucify you all."

Then when they (had) thrown, said Musa, "What you have brought [it] (is) the magic. Indeed, Allah will nullify it. Indeed, Allah (does) not amend the work (of) the corrupters.

Indeed, [we] we believe in our Lord that He may forgive for us our sins and what you compelled us on it of the magic. And Allah (is) Best and Ever Lasting."

And when came to them the truth, they said, "This (is) magic, and indeed, we of it (are) disbelievers."

And He (is) the One Who created the heavens and the earth in six epochs, and was (his) throne on the water that He might test [you] which of you (is) best (in) deed. But if you say, "Indeed, you (will be) resurrected from after [the] death," surely would say those who disbelieved, "Not is this but a magic clear."

But when came to them Musa with Our Signs clear, they said, "Not (is) this except a magic invented, and not we heard of this among our forefathers (of) the former (people)."

And when are recited to them Our Verses clear they say, "Not (is) this but a man who wishes to hinder you from what used (to) worship your forefathers." And they say, "Not (is) this except a lie invented." And said those who disbelieved about the truth when it came to them, "Not (is) this except a magic obvious."

And they say, "Not (is) this except a magic clear.

When said Allah, "O Isa, son (of) Maryam! Remember My Favor upon you and upon your mother when I strengthened you with (the) Spirit, the Holy, you spoke (to) the people in the cradle and (in) maturity. And when I taught you the Book and the wisdom and the Taurat and the Injeel; and when you make from the clay like the shape (of) the bird by My permission then you breath into it and it becomes a bird by My permission, and you heal the born blind and the leper by My permission, and when you bring forth the dead by My permission. And when I restrained (the) Children (of) Israel from you when you came to them with the clear proofs then said those who disbelieved among them "Not this but magic, clear."

And (even) if We (had) sent down to you a written Scripture in a parchment and they touched it with their hands, surely (would) have said those who disbelieved, "Not (is) this but magic clear."

And if they see a Sign, they turn away and say, "Magic continuing."

Then he said, "Not (is) this but magic imitated.

He said, "Nay, you throw." Then behold! Their ropes and their staffs seemed to him by their magic that they (were) moving.

Is it for the mankind a wonder that We revealed to a man from (among) them that, "Warn the mankind and give glad tidings (to) those who believe that for them (will be) a position respectable near their Lord?" Said the disbelievers, "Indeed, this (is) surely a magician obvious."

He said to the chiefs around him, "Indeed, this (is) surely a magician learned.

We know best [of] what they listen to [it] when they listen to you, and when they (are) in private conversation, when say the wrongdoers, "Not you follow but a man bewitched."

Or is delivered to him a treasure or is for him a garden, he may eat from it? And say the wrongdoers, "Not you follow but a man bewitched."
