General Root Meaning
follow/went or walked behind/after, overtook, pursue/investigate/examine/hunt, sought/reach/obtain it, prosecute/sue (for right/due or blood-revenge), succession of one to another, consecutive/successive, follower, imitator, continue the same course, aid/assist/help, come with, obey, desire/demand.
An appelation of each of the Kings of El-Yemen who posessed Himyer and Hadramowt, so called because they followed one another when one died, another took his place, followed him in his course of acting. It is said in a tradition to mean a particular King who was a believer, whose people were unbelievers. [44:37, 50:14]

Nay, follow those who do wrong, their desires, without knowledge. Then who (can) guide (one) whom has let go astray Allah? And not for them any helpers.

So go to him and say, "Indeed, we both (are) Messengers (of) your Lord, so send with us (the) Children (of) Israel, and (do) not torment them. Verily, we came to you with a Sign from your Lord. And peace on (one) who follows the Guidance.

He said, "Go down from it all, some of you to others (as) enemy. Then if comes to you from Me guidance then whoever, follows My guidance, then not he will go astray and not suffer.

And the forerunners, the first among the emigrants and the helpers and those who followed them in righteousness, is pleased Allah with them, and they are pleased with Him. And He has prepared for them Gardens flows underneath it the rivers, will abide in it forever. That (is) the success the great.

And say to the believing women (that) they should lower [of] their gaze and they should guard their chastity, and not (to) display their adornment except what is apparent of it. And let them draw their head covers over their bosoms, and not (to) display their adornment except to their husbands, or their fathers or fathers (of) their husbands or their sons or sons (of) their husbands or their brothers or sons (of) their brothers or sons (of) their sisters, or their women or what possess their right hands or the attendants having no (of) physical desire among [the] men or [the] children who (are) not aware of private aspects (of) the women. And (the) companions (of) the wood and (the) people (of) Tubba. All denied the Messengers, so was fulfilled My Threat.

And they will come forth before Allah all together, then will say the weak to those who were arrogant, "Indeed we, we were your followers, so can you (be) the one who avails us from (the) punishment (of) Allah from anything?" They will say, "If had guided us Allah surely we would have guided (It is) same for us whether we show intolerance or we are patient, not (is) for us any place of escape."

40:47
And when they will dispute in the Fire, then will say the weak to those who were arrogant, "Indeed, we [we] were for you followers, so can you avert from us a portion of the Fire?"

And We revealed to you the Book in [the] truth, confirming what (was) between his hands of the Book and a guardian over it. So judge between them by what has revealed Allah, and (do) not follow their vain desires when has come to you of the truth. For each We have made for you a law and a clear way. And if (had) willed Allah He (would have) made you a community one, [and] but to test you in what He (has) given you, so race (to) the good. To Allah you will return all. then He will inform you of what you were concerning it differing.

And that you judge between them by what (has) revealed Allah and (do) not follow their vain desires and beware of them lest they tempt you away from some (of) what has revealed Allah to you. And if they turn away then know that only intends Allah to afflict them for some (of) their sins. And indeed, many of the people (are) defiantly disobedient.

Say, "Bring forward your witnesses, those who testify that Allah prohibited this." Then if they testify then (do) not testify with them. And (do) not follow (the) desires (of) those who denied Our Signs and those who (do) not believe in the Hereafter, while they with their Lord set up equals.

And We appointed (for) Musa thirty nights and We completed them with ten (more), so was completed (the) set term (of) his Lord (of) forty night(s). And said Musa to his brother Harun, "Take my place in my people, and do right and (do) not follow (the) way (of) the corrupters."

So to that then invite, and stand firm as you are commanded and (do) not follow their desires, but say, "I believe in what has sent down Allah of (the) Book, and I am commanded that I do justice between you. Allah (is) our Lord and your Lord. For us our deeds and for you your deeds. (There is) no argument between us and between you. Allah will assemble [between] us, and to Him (is) the final return."

Say, "O People (of) the Book! (Do) not exceed in your religion other than the truth, and (do) not follow (vain) desires (of) a people certainly who went astray from before, and they misled many, and they have strayed from (the) right [the] way.

And of the cattle (are some for) burden and (some for) meat. Eat of what (has) provided you Allah, and (do) not follow (the) footsteps (of) Shaitaan. Indeed, he (is) to you an enemy open.

And that, this (is) my path straight, so follow it. And (do) not follow the (other) paths, then they will separate you from His path. That (He) has enjoined on you [with it] so that you may become righteous.

O you who believe! (Do) not follow (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan, and whoever follows (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan then indeed, he commands the immorality and the evil. And if not (for the) Grace (of) Allah upon you and His Mercy not (would) have been pure among you from anyone ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills. And Allah (is) All-Hearer, All-Knower.

Will say those who associate partners (with Allah "If had willed Allah, not we (would) have associated par and not our forefathers and not we (would) have forbidden [of] anything." Likewise denied those who from (were) before them until they tasted Our wrath. Say, "Is with you [of] any knowledge then produce it for us? Not you follow except the assumption, and not you (do) but guess."

We know best [of] what they listen to [it] when they listen to you, and when they (are) in private conversation, when say the wrongdoers, "Not you follow but a man bewitched."

Or is delivered to him a treasure or is for him a garden, he may eat from it? And say the wrongdoers, "Not you follow but a man bewitched."

And if We (had) destroyed them with a punishment from before him, surely they (would) have said, "Our Lord, why not You sent to us a Messenger, so we (could) have followed Your signs from before [that] we were humiliated and disgraced."

Then as for those in their hearts (is) perversity - [so] they follow what (is) allegorical of it, seeking [the] discord and seeking its interpretation. And not knows its interpretation except Allah. And those firm in [the] knowledge, they say, "We believe in it. All (is) from our Lord." And not will take heed except men (of) understanding.

39:18
Those who they listen (to) the Word, then follow the best thereof, those (are) they whom has guided them Allah, and those are [they] those of understanding.

And when comes to them a matter of the security or [the] fear they spread [with] it. But if they (had) referred it to the Messenger and to those (having) authority among them, surely would have known it those who draw correct conclusion (from) among them. And that He (might) make evide those who (are) hypocrites. And it was said to them, "Come, fight in (the) way (of) Allah or defend." They said, "If we knew fighting certainly we (would have) foll They - to disbelief that day (were) nearer than [them] to the faith, saying with their mouths what was not in their hearts. And Allah (is) Most Knowing of what they conceal.

If it had been a gain near and a journey easy, surely they (would) have follo but was long for them the distance. And they will swear by Allah, "If we were able, certainly we (would) have come with you." They destroy their own selves and Allah knows (that) indeed, they (are) surely liars.

   mutatābiʿayni   (1)

4:92
And not is for a believer that he kills a believer except (by) mistake. And whoever killed a believer (by) mistake, then freeing (of) a slave believing and blood money (is to be) paid to his family unless that they remit (as) charity. But if (he) was from a people hostile to you and he was a believer then freeing (of) a slave believing. And if (he) was from a people between you and between them, (is) a treaty, then blood money (is to be) paid to his family, and freeing (of) a slave believing. And whoever (does) not find, then fasting (for) two months consecutively, (seeking) repentance from Allah, and is Allah All-Knowing, All-Wise.

Then whoever (does) not find, then fasting (for) two months consecutively from before [that] they both touch each other. But (he) who not is able then (the) feeding (of) sixty needy one(s). That - so that you may believe in Allah and His Messenger, and these (are the) limits (of) Allah, and for the disbelievers (is) a punishment painful.

And We inspired to Musa, [that] "Travel by night with My slaves, indeed, you (will be) followed."

Then "Set out with My slaves (by) night. Indeed, you (will be) followed.

And said, "Is (it) a human being among us one, (that) we should follow him? Indeed, we then (will be) surely in error and madness.

And they were followed in this world (with) a curse and (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection. No doubt! Indeed, Aad disbelieved their Lord, So away with Aad, (the) people (of) Hud.

And they were followed in this (by) a curse and (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection. Wretched (is) the gift which (will) be given.

And if We willed surely, We (could) have raised with these [and] but he adhered to the earth and followed his (vain) desires. So his example (is) like (the) example (of) the dog, if you attack [on] him, he lolls out his tongue or if you leave him, he lolls out his tongue. That (is the) example (of) the people who denied [in] Our Signs. So relate the story so that they may reflect.

And who (is) better (in) religion than (one) who submits his face to Allah and he (is) a good-doer and follows (the) religion (of) Ibrahim (the) upright? And was taken (by) Allah Ibrahim (as) a friend.

18:28
And be patient, yourself, with those who call their Lord in the morning and the evening desiring His Face. And (let) not pass beyond your eyes over them, desiring adornment (of) the life (of) the world, and (do) not obey whom We have made heedless his heart of Our remembrance, and follows his desires and is his affair (in) excess.

So (do) not (let) avert you from it (one) who (does) not believe in it and follows his desires, lest you perish.

So why not had been of the generations from before you (those) possessing a remnant, forbidding from the corruption in the earth except a few of those We saved among them? But followed those who did wrong what luxury they were given therein, and they were criminals.

And those who believed and followed them their offspring in faith, We will join with them their offspring and not We will deprive them of their deeds (in) any thing. Every person for what he earned (is) pledged.

So those who believe in him and honor him, and help him and follow the light which has been sent down with him. Those (are) [they] the successful ones."

40:7
Those who bear the Throne and who (are) around it glorify (the) praises (of) their Lord and believe in Him and ask forgiveness for those who believe, "Our Lord! You encompass all things (by Your) Mercy and knowledge, so forgive those who repent and follow Your Way and save them (the) punishment (of) the Hellfire.

And this (was) Aad, they rejected (the) Signs (of) their Lord and disobeyed His Messengers and followed (the) command (of) every tyrant obstinate.

And not disbelieved Sulaiman [and] but the devils disbelieved, they teach the people [the] magic and what was sent down to the two angels in Babylon, Harut and Marut. And not they both teach any one unless they [both] say, "Only we (are) a trial, so (do) not disbelieve." But they learn from those what [they] causes separation with it between the man and his spouse. And not they (could) at all [be those who] harm with it any one except by permission (of) Allah. And they learn what harms them and not profits them. And indeed they knew that whoever buys it, not for him in the Hereafter any share. And surely evil (is) what they sold with it themselves, if they were (to) know.

3:174
So they returned with (the) Favor of Allah and Bounty, not touched them any harm. And they followed (the) pleasure (of) Allah, and Allah (is) Possessor (of) Bounty great.

19:59
Then succeeded from after them successors, who neglected the prayer and they followed the lusts so soon, they will meet evil

47:14
Then is (he) who is on a clear proof from his Lord like (he) who, is made attractive to him (the) evil (of) his deeds while they follow their desires.

And warn the mankind (of) a Day (when) will come to them the punishment, then will say those who did wrong, "Our Lord! Respite us for a term short; we will answer Your call and we will follow the Messengers." "Had not you sworn from before not for you any end?

And among the mankind (is he) who disputes concerning Allah without knowledge and follows every devil rebellious.

Those who spend their wealth in (the) way (of) Allah then not they follow what they spend (with) reminders of generosity and not hurt - for them their reward (is) with their Lord, and (there will be) no fear on them and not they will grieve.

And not follow most of them except assumption. Indeed, the assumption (does) not avail against the truth anything. Indeed, Allah (is) All-Knower of what they do.

10:66
No doubt! Indeed, to Allah (belongs) whoever (is) in the heavens and whoever (is) in the earth. And not follow those who invoke from other than Allah partners. Not they follow but the assumption and not they but guess.

2:143
And thus We made you a community (of the) middle way so that you will be witnesses over the mankind, and will be the Messenger on you a witness. And not We made the direction of prayer which you were used to [on it] except that We make evident (he) who follows the Messenger from (he) who turns back on his heels. And indeed, it was certainly a great (test) except for those whom guided (by) Allah. And not will Allah let go waste your faith. Indeed, Allah (is) to [the] mankind Full of Kindness, Most Merciful.

24:21
O you who believe! (Do) not follow (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan, and whoever follows (the) footsteps (of) the Shaitaan then indeed, he commands the immorality and the evil. And if not (for the) Grace (of) Allah upon you and His Mercy not (would) have been pure among you from anyone ever, but Allah purifies whom He wills. And Allah (is) All-Hearer, All-Knower.

10:35
Say, "Is (there) of your partners (any) who guides to the truth?" Say, "Allah guides to the truth. Is then (he) who guides to the truth more worthy that he should be followed or (he) who (does) not guide unless [that] he is guided? Then what (is) for you, how you judge?"

And the poets - follow them the deviators.

   yattabiʿūkum   (1)

And if you call them to the guidance, not they will follow you. (It is) same for you whether you call them or you remain silent.

And Allah wishes to accept repentance from you, but wish those who follow the passions that you deviate - (into) a deviation great.

No doubt! Indeed, to Allah (belongs) whoever (is) in the heavens and whoever (is) in the earth. And not follow those who invoke from other than Allah partners. Not they follow but the assumption and not they but guess.

28:50
But if not they respond to you, then know that only they follow their desires. And who (is) more astray than (one) who follows his own desire without guidance from Allah? Indeed, Allah (does) not guide the people - the wrongdoers.

53:23
Not they (are) except names you have named them, you and your forefathers, not has sent down Allah for it any authority. Not they follow except assumption and what desire the(ir) souls. And certainly has come to them from their Lord the guidance.

53:28
And not for them about it any knowledge. Not they follow but assumption. And indeed, the assumption (does) not avail against the truth anything.

20:108
On that Day they will follow the caller, no deviation from it. And (will be) humbled the voices for the Most Gracious, so not you will hear except a faint sound.
