Surah “The Wind-curved Sandhills, The Dunes, The Sandhills”

as rendered by Talal Itani & AI (2025) — 35 verses

Ha Mim.
The revelation of this Book is from God, the Almighty, the Wise.
We created the heavens and the earth and everything between them only in truth and for an appointed term. Yet those who disbelieve turn away from what they have been warned about.
Say, "Have you considered those you call upon besides God? Show me what they have created of the earth. Or do they have a share in the heavens? Bring me a scripture before this one or some trace of knowledge, if you are truthful."
Who is more astray than one who calls upon those besides God who will never respond to him until the Day of Resurrection, and who are completely unaware of their prayers?
When people are gathered, those they worshiped will become their enemies and will deny their worship.
When Our clear verses are recited to them, those who disbelieve say of the truth when it comes to them, "This is obvious magic."
Or do they say, "He fabricated it"? Say, "If I fabricated it, you have no power to protect me from God. He knows best what you indulge in. He is sufficient as a witness between me and you. He is the Forgiving, the Merciful."
Say, "I am not something new among the messengers, and I do not know what will be done with me or with you. I only follow what is revealed to me, and I am only a clear warner."
Say, "Have you considered: if this is from God and you reject it, and a witness from the Children of Israel testifies to something similar and believes while you are arrogant? God does not guide wrongdoing people."
Those who disbelieve say of those who believe, "If it were any good, they would not have preceded us to it." Since they are not guided by it, they will say, "This is an ancient lie."
Before it was the Book of Moses as a guide and a mercy. This is a confirming Book in the Arabic tongue to warn those who do wrong and as good news for those who do good.
Those who say, "Our Lord is God," and then remain steadfast, no fear will be upon them, nor will they grieve.
These are the people of Paradise, dwelling there forever as a reward for what they used to do.
We have commanded people to honor their parents. His mother carried him with hardship and delivered him with hardship, and his bearing and weaning take thirty months. When he reaches full maturity and reaches forty years, he says, "My Lord, inspire me to be grateful for Your blessing that You have bestowed upon me and upon my parents, and to do righteous deeds that please You, and make my descendants righteous for me. I turn to You in repentance, and I am among those who submit."
Those are the ones from whom We will accept the best of what they did and overlook their misdeeds, among the people of Paradise. This is the true promise they were promised.
But the one who says to his parents, "Ugh, enough of you both! Do you promise me that I will be brought forth when generations have already passed before me?" while they both cry out to God for help, "Woe to you! Believe! God's promise is true." But he says, "This is nothing but legends of the ancients."
Those are the ones upon whom the decree has come due, among nations of jinn and humans that passed before them. They were losers.
Each will have ranks according to what they did, so that He may fully repay them for their deeds, and they will not be wronged.
On the Day when those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire: "You exhausted your good things in your worldly life and enjoyed them. So today you are repaid with the punishment of humiliation because you were arrogant on earth without right, and because you were defiantly disobedient."
Mention the brother of Aad, when he warned his people at the sand dunes, though warners had already passed before him and after him, saying, "Worship none but God. I fear for you the punishment of a tremendous Day."
They said, "Have you come to turn us away from our gods? Then bring us what you threaten us with, if you are truthful."
He said, "Knowledge is only with God. I convey to you what I have been sent with, but I see you are an ignorant people."
When they saw it as a cloud approaching their valleys, they said, "This is a cloud bringing us rain." No, it is what you sought to hasten: a wind carrying painful punishment.
It destroys everything by the command of its Lord. By morning, nothing could be seen except their dwellings. This is how We repay the criminal people.
We had established them in what We have not established you, and We gave them hearing, sight, and hearts. But their hearing, sight, and hearts did not benefit them at all when they rejected the signs of God, and they were engulfed by what they used to mock.
We destroyed the towns around you and varied the signs so that they might return.
So why did those they took as gods besides God, as a means of nearness, not help them? Instead, they vanished from them. That was their lie and what they used to fabricate.
We directed a group of jinn toward you to listen to the Quran. When they arrived, they said, "Be silent!" Then when it was concluded, they returned to their people as warners.
They said, "O our people, we have heard a Book revealed after Moses, confirming what came before it, guiding to the truth and to a straight path."
O our people, respond to the caller of God and believe in Him. He will forgive you of your sins and protect you from a painful punishment.
Whoever does not respond to the caller of God cannot escape on earth, and he has no protectors besides Him. Those are in clear error.
Do they not see that God, who created the heavens and the earth and was not wearied by their creation, is able to give life to the dead? Yes, He has power over all things.
On the Day when those who disbelieved are exposed to the Fire: "Is this not real?" They will say, "Yes, by our Lord!" He will say, "Then taste the punishment for your disbelief."
So be patient, as the messengers of firm resolve were patient, and do not seek to hasten for them. On the Day they see what they were promised, it will seem as if they had stayed only an hour of a day. A proclamation. Will any be destroyed except the defiantly disobedient people?
