13:1
Alif. Lãm. Mĩm. RA. Those there are signs of the timeless Book. And that which has been sent down upon
you, from
your Rabb is the Truth, but most of humankind do not believe.
13:2
Allah is the One
WHO raised the heavens without pillars which you can see, thereafter HE set HIS attributes to reign over all manifestation.
HE put the sun and the moon into compliance, each on course for a definite term.
HE ushers the Command [into the matrix of time and place].”
HE distinctly frames the Signs, so you may live by certainty of your
Rabb’s meeting.
13:3
HE it is
WHO spread out the land, and placed anchored mountains and running rivers in it, and
HE placed therein complementary pairs of all fruits; and
HE wraps the night over the day. Surely in these there are signs for a people who reflect.
13:4
On the land are neighboring tracts and gardens with grapevines and crops and date palms, timed-together and timed-apart, watered by one [water].
WE give bounty to some over others in the harvest. Surely, in all that are signs for a people who use their intellect.
13:5
If
you are amazed—amazing [too] is their saying: “After we are dust, are we to be [raised] in a new creation?” Those are the ones who have disbelieved in their
Rabb, and they have yokes in their necks, and they are the reapers of the fire, abiders therein.
13:6
They urge
you to hasten on [the consequences associated] with the ill [they practice] before [they opt for] the good, while the examples of those before them have come to pass. Behold!
Your Rabb is the Source of forgiveness for humankind despite their wrongs, and indeed
your Rabb is very firm of requital.
13:7
Those who have disbelieved say, “Why has a miraculous sign not been sent down upon him from his
Rabb?” You are only a warner and for every people is a guide.
13:8
Allah!
HE knows what every female carries, and which wombs are diminishing, and which are growing. With
HIM there is a precise measure for everything.
13:9
Knower of the unseeable and the witnessed, the Transcendent, the Exalted.
13:10
It is the same [in terms of
HIS knowing and
HIS protection]: The one of you who conceals his speech and the one who declares it publicly; and the one who lurks by night and the one who moves freely by light of day.
13:11
For each are pursuers, present with him and beyond him who protect him by the command of Allah. Allah does not change the condition of a people until they change what is in their inner selves. When Allah intends a setback to a people, there is none to avert it. They have besides
HIM no guardian.
13:12
HE is it is
WHO shows you the lightning, arousing fear, and hope, and
HE materializes the heavy clouds.
13:13
The thunder exalts HIS limitless glory in
HIS praise, and the angels, in awe of
HIM.
HE sends the thunderbolts striking whoever
HE wills therewith, while they dispute about Allah. And
HE is firm of purpose and design.
13:14
The prayer of Truth is for
HIM. Those who they pray to, other than
HIM, do not respond to them with anything, [He is guided not], save like one with his two hands extended towards water that it may flow to his mouth; but it will not flow to it. The prayer of the disbelievers is nothing else but [an exercise] in error.
13:15
Unto Allah they all prostrate, willingly, or unwillingly—whosoever is in the heavens and the earth, and [so too] do their shadows during the day’s unfolding and the day’s folding. ۩
13:16
Say, “Who is the
Rabb of the heavens and the earth?” Say, “Allah.” Say, “Have you then taken allies other than
HIM, who do not have any power to benefit or harm their own selves?” Say, “Do the blind and the insightful one match up? Or do layers of darkness and light match up?” Or have they appointed partners with Allah who have created in likeness to
HIS Creation such that the real Creation has become indistinguishable for them? Say, “Allah is the creator of all that there is, and
HE is ONE, the Supreme Subduer.”
13:17
HE sends down water from the sky, so the valleys may channel it by their measure. The channeled flow carries swelling foam—like the foam from whatever [ore] they smelt in the fire to make ornaments or other wares. Thus does Allah illustratively characterize the Truth and falsehood. Then as for the foam, it passes away as scum and as for what benefits humankind, it settles in the earth. Thus does Allah set forth [meaningful] similitudes.
13:18
For the ones who strive to respond to their
Rabb is the best and beautiful. And the ones who do not care to respond—were they to have whatever is on the earth, and that much again along with it— they would eagerly offer it for ransom. For them will be the worst of reckoning, and their shelter is
Jahannam, and miserable is the resting place.
13:19
Is one who has come to know that whatever has been revealed upon
you from your
Rabb is the Truth, like one who is blind [to it]? It is only the seekers of the essence who mindfully reflect—
13:20
The ones who fulfil their pledge with Allah and do not break the covenant.
13:21
And the ones who join what Allah has commanded to be joined, and stand in awe of their
Rabb, and dread the reckoning’s penalty.
13:22
And the ones who patiently persevere and seek the countenance of their
Rabb, and make Prayer [their] anchor, and spend of what
WE have provided them, secretly and publicly, and with their good deed they ward off the foul deed— for them is the final claim of the home [of the Hereafter].
13:23
Gardens of Eden, they will enter, and whoso did good and right from among their parents and their spouses and their offspring. And the angels will come unto them from every gate, [greeting]:
13:24
“Peace [
Salaam] upon you for what you patiently endured. How excellent is the final claim of the home [of the Hereafter]!”
13:25
Whereas the ones who break their pledge after accepting
HIS covenant and sever what Allah bids to join and spread discord and disharmony on earth—for them is the [eternal] denunciation, and for them is the worst of the Home [of the Hereafter].
13:26
Allah!
HE expands the provision for whom
HE wills, and
HE measures out. They rejoice in the earthly life and not is the earthly life in the Hereafter, anything except a baggage of the physical and material.
13:27
Those who disbelieve say, “Why has not a miraculous sign been sent down upon him from his
Rabb?” Say, “Allah leaves astray whom
HE wills and guides unto HIMSELF whoever is turned [to HIM in Faith]:
13:28
The ones who have embraced Faith and whose hearts are set at rest with the remembrance of Allah.” Unquestionably, with the remembrance of Allah, hearts are set at rest.
13:29
The ones who have embraced Faith and have done the right deeds, for them is great spiritual happiness and homecoming’s best.
13:30
Thus, have
WE sent
you unto a community, preceding which other prophetic communities have passed, so that
you may recite to them, what
WE have revealed to
you, even as they disbelieve in
Al Raḥmān. Say, “
HE is my
Rabb; there is no god but
HE; upon
HIM do I rely on and unto
HIM is my recourse for repentance.”
13:31
Had there been a recital by which mountains were moved or by which the land was cut open, or the dead were made to speak, [would that be a test of freewill]? Nay! To Allah belongs the command in its totality. Do the ones who have believed not realize thereof that had Allah willed,
HE would have categorically guided all of humankind collectively? Whereas as for those who have disbelieved, a calamitous unravelling is still to afflict them for what they did—or alight close to their homes, until comes the promise of Allah. Surely, Allah does not contravene HIS promise.
13:32
And most certainly, messengers before
you were mocked. Yet
I granted some respite to those who had disbelieved, and then
I seized them. How then was
MY requital?
13:33
Is
HE WHO is ever watchfully present over every soul for what it has earned [like any other]?” And yet they have ascribed partners to Allah! Say, “Name them! Or do you inform
HIM of anything on earth
HE does not know? Or is it sheer manifestation of [your] words? Nay! Made fair seeming to those who disbelieve, is their contrivance and they are barred from the Path. He who Allah leaves astray, for him there is no guide.
13:34
For them is chastisement in this earthly life, and certainly harder is the punishment of the Hereafter. And they have none to shield them from Allah.
13:35
The parable of the Garden promised to the God-conscious: rivers flowing subservient to it; its harvest is constant and so is its shade. That is the final claim of the ones who are conscious of God. And the disbelievers’ final claim is the fire.
13:36
The ones to whom
WE have given the timeless divine words [of Al Quran] rejoice at what has been revealed unto
you, while some of the opposing segments refuse to accept some of it. Say, “I have been commanded that I worship Allah and that I do not associate any partners with
HIM. I call unto
HIM, and unto
HIM is my homecoming.”
13:37
Thus,
WE have sent it down, as an Arabic [discourse] in wise judgment. Now if
you follow their whims after what has come to
you of the Knowledge—there will not be any protector for
you, or defender against Allah.
13:38
WE did send Messengers before
you and appointed spouses and children for them. It was not for a messenger to come with a sign except with the leave of Allah. For every event in time there is a timeless record.
13:39
Allah effaces what
HE wills, and
HE plants firmly what
HE wills. With
HIM is the source of the timeless book.
13:40
Whether
WE duly show
you some of what
WE have promised them, or
WE duly collect
you [in death]—
yours is the clear conveyance, and upon
US is the reckoning.
13:41
Do they not see that
WE claim the land, diminishing it from all its sides? Allah!
HE judges. There is none to revise
HIS judgement, and
HE is swift of reckoning.
13:42
And the ones before them planned too, but the Plan in whole belongs to Allah.
HE knows what each soul earns, and the disbelievers shall know for whom the final claim of the Home [of the Hereafter] is.
13:43
The ones who disbelieve, say, “You are not a Messenger.” Say, “Allah is sufficient as a witness between me and you, [and witnesses as well] are those who have knowledge of the timeless Book.”
