General Root Meaning
To swear, make an oath. To confederate, make a compact or agreement, to cleave/cling/keep/hold fast to a thing, establish a brotherhood.
  
ḥalaftum   (1)

5:89
not will call you to account Allah for the thoughtless utterances in your oaths but He will call you to account for what you contracted (of) the oath. So its expiation (is) feeding (of) ten needy people of average (of) what you feed your families or clothing them or freeing a slave. But whoever (does) not find (that), then fasting (for) three days. That (is the) expiation (of) your oaths when you have sworn. And guard your oaths. Thus makes clear Allah to you His Verses so that you may (be) grateful.

And (do) not obey every habitual swearer worthless,

  
sayaḥlifūna   (1)

9:95
They will swear by Allah to you when you returned to them, that you may turn away from them. So turn away from them, indeed, they (are) impure and their abode (is) Hell, a recompense for what they used (to) earn.

58:18
(On the) Day will raise them Allah all, then they will swear to Him as they swear to you. And they think that they (are) on something. No doubt! Indeed, they [they] (are) the liars.

If it had been a gain near and a journey easy, surely they (would) have follo but was long for them the distance. And they will swear by Allah, "If we were able, certainly we (would) have come with you." They destroy their own selves and Allah knows (that) indeed, they (are) surely liars.

9:107
And those who take a masjid (for causing) harm and (for) disbelief, and (for) division among the believers, and (as) a station for whoever warred (against) Allah and His Messenger from before. And surely they will swear, "Not we wish except the good." But Allah bears witness indeed, they (are) surely liars.

And they swear by Allah indeed, they surely (are) of you, while not they (are) of you, but they (are) a people (who) are afraid.

58:14
Do not you see [to] those who take as allies a people, wrath (of) Allah (is) upon them? Not they (are) of you and not of them, and they swear to the lie while they know.

So how when befalls them disaster for what sent forth their hands then they come to you swearing by Allah, "Not we intended except good and reconciliation."

9:62
They swear by Allah to you to please you. And Allah and His Messenger (have) more right that they should please Him, if they are believers.

9:74
They swear by Allah nothing (that) they said , while certainly they said (the) word (of) the disbelief and disbelieved after their (pretense of) Islam, and planned [of] what not they could attain. And not they were resentful except that had enriched them Allah and His Messenger of His Bounty. So if they repent, it is better for them, and if they turn away, will punish them Allah (with) a punishment painful, in the world and (in) the Hereafter. And not for them in the earth any protector and not a helper.

9:96
They swear to you that you may be pleased with them. But if you are pleased with them, then indeed, Allah not (is) pleased with the people (who are) defiantly disobedien

58:18
