General Root Meaning
Neglect/abstain from aiding or assisting someone, hold back from another, leave/forsake/desert someone, to fail in helping/aiding someone, hold back from going with someone, hinder/prevent one from aiding another.

25:29
Verily, he led me astray from the Reminder after [when] it (had) come to me. And is the Shaitaan to the man a deserter."

(Do) not make with Allah god another, lest you will sit disgraced, forsaken.

If helps you Allah, then not (can) overcome [for] you, and if He forsakes you, then who (is) the one who can help you from after Him? And on Allah - let put (their) trust. the believers
