General Root Meaning
To wade/walk/pass through/enter, to bring one thing to another, to penetrate or force one's way to or through a thing, plunge into a thing, follow erring, enter into false/vain discourse or speech, mix and stir about (beverage or wine), act wrongly or in an improper manner concerning an affair.

Like those from before you they were mightier than you (in) strength, and more abundant (in) wealth and children. So they enjoyed their portion, and you have enjoyed your portion like enjoyed those from before you their portion, and you indulge like the one who indulges (in idle talk). Those, worthless, (are) their deeds in the world and (in) the Hereafter. And those, they (are) the losers.

Say, "Who revealed the Book which brought [it] Musa (as) a light and guidance for the people? You make it (into) parchments, you disclose (some of) it and you conceal much (of it). And you were taught what not knew you and not your forefathers." Say, "Allah (revealed it)." Then leave them in their discourse - playing.

And if you ask them, surely they will say, "Only we were conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His Verses and His Messenger (that) you were mocking?"
