General Root Meaning
become spread/published/known/revealed/apparent, scattered/dispersed, conforming/agreeing with another, befriend/friendly, went along together, like/similar, follower/assistant/friend/comrade/sharer/partner, separate/distinct party/sect, way of doctrine/system/practice.
shee’ah pl. shiya’, ashyaa’: a separate/distinct party/sect of men; the followers/assistants of a man; any people that have combined in an affair.
   ashyāʿakum   (1)

54:51
And certainly We destroyed your kinds, so is (there) any who will receive admonition?

   bi-ashyāʿihim   (1)

34:54
And a barrier will be placed between them and between what they desire, as was done with their kind from before. Indeed, they were in doubt disquieting.

Indeed, those who divide their religion and become sects, you are not with them in anything. Only their affair (is) with Allah, then He will inform them of what they used to do.

Of those who divide their religion and become sects, each party in what they have rejoicing.
