General Root Meaning
to be lord/noble/glorious, rule/lead, overcome in glory.
sawida - to be black, bold.
iswadda - to beget a black boy, boy who is chief.
swad - great number.
al-siyyidda - blessed lady. aswad - black, greater.
aswadda wajhuhu - his face became expressive of grief or sorrow. He became sorrowful/confounded/disgraced. It is a token of bad conclusion and failure and sorrow.

3:106
(On the) Day would become white (some) faces and would become black (some) faces. As for those whose turn black [their] faces - "Did you disbelieve after your belief? Then taste the punishment for what you used to disbelieve."

2:187
Permitted for you (in the) nights (of) fasting (is) the approach to your wives. They (are) garments for you and you (are) garments for them. Knows Allah that you used to deceive yourselves, so He turned towards you and He forgave [on] you. So now have relations with them and seek what has ordained Allah for you. And eat and drink until becomes distinct to you the thread [the] white from the thread [the] black of [the] dawn. Then complete the fast till the night. And (do) not have relations with them while you (are) secluded in the masajid. These (are the) limits (set by) Allah, so (do) not approach them. Thus makes clear Allah His verses for [the] people so that they may (become) righteous.

33:67
And they will say, "Our Lord! Indeed, we [we] obeyed our chiefs and our great men, and they misled us (from) the Way.

   sūdun   (1)

35:27
Do not you see that Allah sends down from the sky water, then We bring forth therewith fruits (of) various [their] colors? And in the mountains (are) tracts, white and red (of) various [their] colors, and intensely black.

And they both raced (to) the door and she tore his shirt from the back, and they both found her husband at the door. She said, "What (is) the recompense (of one) who intended for your wife evil except that he be imprisoned or a punishment painful?"

And when is given good news (to) one of them of a female, turns his face dark and he suppresses grief.

43:17
And when is given good news, (to) one of them, of what he sets up for the Most Gracious (as) a likeness, becomes his face dark and he (is) filled with grief.

And (on the) Day (of) the Resurrection you will see those who lied about Allah, their faces (will be) blackened. Is (there) not in Hell an abode for the arrogant?

Then called him the Angels when he (was) standing - praying in the prayer chamber. "Indeed, Allah gives you glad tidings of Yahya, confirming [of] a Word from Allah and a noble and chaste and a Prophet among the righteous.
