General Root Meaning
to describe (good or bad), assert something as a fact, achieve, ascribe, specify.
Yasifuun (impf. 3rd. p. m. sing.): they ascribe.
Tasifu (impf. 3rd. p. f. sing.): she expounds, ascribes.
Tasifuuna (impf. 2nd. p. m. pl.): Ye describe.
Wasfan (n.): act of ascribing or attributing, description.

16:116
And (do) not say for that which assert your tongues, the lie, "This (is) lawful and this (is) forbidden," so that you invent about Allah the lie. Indeed, those who invent about Allah the lie, not they will succeed.

21:18
Nay, We hurl the truth against [the] falsehood, and it breaks its head, behold, it (is) vanishing. And for you (is) destruction for what you ascribe.

21:112
He said, "My Lord! judge in truth. And our Lord (is) the Most Gracious, the One Whose help is sought against what you attribute."

12:18
And they brought upon his shirt with blood false. He said, "Nay, has enticed you your souls (to) a matter, so patience (is) beautiful. And Allah (is) the One sought for help against what you describe."

12:77
They said, "If he steals - then verily stole a brother of his from before." But kept it secret Yusuf within himself, and (did) not reveal it to them. He said, "You (are the) worse (in) position, and Allah knows best of what you describe."

16:62
And they assign to Allah what they dislike and assert their tongues the lie that for them (is) the best. No doubt that for them (is) the Fire and that they (will) be abandoned.

6:139
And they say, "What (is) in (the) wombs (of) these cattle (is) exclusively for our males and forbidden on our spouses. But if is (born) dead, then they (all) in it (are) partners." He will recompense them (for) their attribution. Indeed, He (is) All-Wise, All-Knowing.

Glory be (to the) Lord, (of) the heavens and the earth, (the) Lord (of) the Throne, above what they ascribe.

6:100
And they make with Allah partners - jinn though He has created them, and they falsely attribute to Him sons and daughters without knowledge. Glorified is He and Exalted above what they attribute.

21:22
If (there) were in both of them gods besides Allah, surely they (would) have been So glorified (is) Allah, Lord (of) the Throne (above) what they attribute.

23:91
Not has taken Allah any son, and not is with Him any god. Then surely (would have) taken away each god what he created, and surely would have overpowe some of them [on] others. Glory be (to) Allah above what they attribute!

23:96
Repel by that which (is) best - the evil. We know best of what they attribute.
