Sad. By the Quran, full of remembrance.
But those who disbelieve are steeped in arrogance and opposition.
How many generations We destroyed before them! They cried out, but it was too late to escape.
They are astonished that a warner has come to them from among themselves. The disbelievers say, "This is a magician, a liar!"
"Has he made the gods into one God? This is truly something astounding!"
Their leaders went off saying, "Walk away and hold firm to your gods. This is clearly something intended."
"We never heard of this in the previous religion. This is nothing but a fabrication."
"Was the message sent down to him among us?" No, they are in doubt about My message. No, they have not yet tasted My punishment.
Or do they possess the treasuries of your Lord's mercy, the Almighty, the Ever-Giving?
Or do they own the dominion of the heavens and the earth and everything between them? Then let them climb up by any means.
They are just a defeated faction among the confederates.
Before them, the people of Noah denied, as did Aad and Pharaoh of the stakes.
And Thamud, the people of Lot, and the companions of the forest. These were the factions.
Each one denied the messengers, so My punishment was justified.
These await nothing but a single blast with no pause to follow.
They said, "Our Lord, hasten our share to us before the Day of Reckoning."
Be patient with what they say, and remember Our servant David, the man of strength. He was ever turning back to God.
We made the mountains glorify with him at evening and sunrise.
The birds too, gathered together. All were turning back to him.
We strengthened his kingdom and gave him wisdom and decisive speech.
Has the story of the disputants reached you, when they climbed over the sanctuary wall?
When they entered upon David, he was alarmed by them. They said, "Do not fear. We are two disputants, one of us has wronged the other. So judge between us with truth, do not be unjust, and guide us to the right path."
"This brother of mine has ninety-nine ewes while I have only one. He said, 'Give her to me,' and he overpowered me in argument."
He said, "He has certainly wronged you by asking for your ewe to add to his ewes. Many partners wrong one another, except those who believe and do righteous deeds, and how few they are." David realized that We had tested him, so he asked his Lord for forgiveness, fell down bowing, and turned back in repentance.
So We forgave him that, and he has nearness to Us and a beautiful return.
"O David, We have made you a successor on earth, so judge between people with truth and do not follow desire, for it will lead you astray from the path of God. Those who stray from the path of God will have a severe punishment for forgetting the Day of Reckoning."
We did not create the heaven and the earth and what is between them in vain. That is the assumption of those who disbelieve. So woe to those who disbelieve from the Fire.
Should We treat those who believe and do righteous deeds like those who spread corruption on earth? Should We treat the mindful like the wicked?
This is a blessed Book We have sent down to you, so that they may reflect upon its verses and so that people of understanding may take heed.
We granted David Solomon. What an excellent servant! He was ever turning back to God.
When the swift-footed steeds were paraded before him in the evening.
He said, "I have loved the love of good things over the remembrance of my Lord, until it disappeared behind the veil."
"Bring them back to me." Then he began stroking their legs and necks.
We tested Solomon and placed a body upon his throne. Then he turned back.
He said, "My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom that will not belong to anyone after me. You are the Giver."
So We subjected the wind to him, blowing gently at his command wherever he directed.
And the devils, every builder and diver.
And others bound together in chains.
"This is Our gift, so give freely or withhold without account."
He has nearness to Us and a beautiful return.
Remember Our servant Job, when he called out to his Lord, "Satan has afflicted me with hardship and suffering."
"Stamp the ground with your foot. Here is a cool place to wash and a drink."
We restored his family to him and doubled their number as a mercy from Us and a reminder for people of understanding.
"Take in your hand a bundle of grass and strike with it, and do not break your oath." We found him patient. What an excellent servant! He was ever turning back to God.
Remember Our servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, men of strength and vision.
We purified them with a pure quality: remembrance of the Home.
They are among the chosen and the best in Our sight.
Remember Ishmael, Elisha, and Dhul-Kifl. All were among the best.
This is a reminder. Those who are mindful will have a beautiful return.
Gardens of eternity with gates flung open for them.
Reclining there, calling for abundant fruit and drink.
With them will be companions of modest gaze, all of equal age.
This is what you are promised for the Day of Reckoning.
This is Our provision, never to be exhausted.
So it is. But the transgressors will have the worst return.
Hell, where they will burn. What a wretched resting place!
This, let them taste it: scalding water and oozing pus.
And other torments of similar kinds.
"Here is a crowd rushing in with you. No welcome for them! They will burn in the Fire."
They will say, "No, it is you who deserve no welcome! You brought this upon us. What a wretched destination!"
They will say, "Our Lord, whoever brought this upon us, double their punishment in the Fire."
They will say, "Why do we not see men we used to count among the wicked?"
"Did we ridicule them wrongly, or have our eyes missed them?"
This is the truth: the quarreling of the people of the Fire.
Say, "I am only a warner, and there is no god but God, the One, the Overpowering."
Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them, the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving.
Say, "It is a tremendous message."
Yet you turn away from it.
I had no knowledge of the highest assembly when they disputed.
It is only revealed to me that I am a clear warner.
When your Lord said to the angels, "I am creating a human being from clay."
"When I have shaped him and breathed into him of My spirit, fall down before him in prostration."
So the angels prostrated, all of them together.
Except Iblis. He was arrogant and became one of the disbelievers.
He said, "O Iblis, what prevented you from prostrating to what I created with My own Hands? Were you arrogant, or are you among the exalted?"
He said, "I am better than him. You created me from fire and created him from clay."
He said, "Then get out of here, for you are an outcast."
"My curse is upon you until the Day of Judgment."
He said, "My Lord, then grant me respite until the Day they are resurrected."
He said, "You are among those granted respite."
"Until the Day of the appointed time."
He said, "By Your might, I will surely lead them all astray."
"Except Your devoted servants among them."
He said, "The truth is, and the truth I speak."
"I will surely fill Hell with you and all who follow you among them."
Say, "I ask you no payment for this, and I am not one of the pretenders."
It is nothing but a reminder to all the worlds.
You will surely know its truth after a time.
