By those lined up in rows.
By those who drive with force.
By those who recite the reminder.
Your God is truly One.
Lord of the heavens and the earth and everything between them, and Lord of every sunrise.
We have adorned the nearest heaven with the beauty of stars.
And as a guard against every rebellious devil.
They cannot listen to the highest assembly and are pelted from every side.
Driven away, and for them is a relentless punishment.
Except one who snatches a fragment, then a piercing flame pursues him.
So ask them: Are they harder to create, or those others We have created? We created them from sticky clay.
You are amazed, while they mock.
When they are reminded, they pay no heed.
When they see a sign, they ridicule it.
They say, "This is nothing but obvious magic."
"When we have died and become dust and bones, will we really be resurrected?"
"And our ancient forefathers too?"
Say, "Yes, and you will be humiliated."
It will be just one blast, and suddenly they will be staring.
They will say, "Woe to us! This is the Day of Judgment."
This is the Day of Decision that you used to deny.
Gather those who did wrong, along with their kinds, and what they used to worship.
Instead of God, and lead them to the path of Hell.
Stop them, for they must be questioned.
"What is wrong with you that you do not help one another?"
No, today they are fully submissive.
They will turn to one another, questioning each other.
They will say, "You used to come at us from the right."
They will reply, "No, you yourselves were not believers."
"We had no authority over you. Rather, you were a transgressing people."
"So the word of our Lord has come true against us. We will surely taste it."
"We led you astray because we ourselves were astray."
On that Day, they will all share in the punishment.
This is how We deal with the criminals.
Whenever it was said to them, "There is no god but God," they grew arrogant.
They would say, "Are we to abandon our gods for a mad poet?"
No, he has come with the truth and confirmed the messengers.
You will surely taste the painful punishment.
You are only repaid for what you used to do.
Except the devoted servants of God.
For them there is a known provision.
Fruits, and they will be honored.
In Gardens of Delight.
On couches, facing one another.
A cup from a flowing spring will be passed around to them.
White, delicious to those who drink it.
It causes no headache, nor are they intoxicated by it.
With them will be companions of modest gaze, with beautiful eyes.
As if they were sheltered pearls.
They will turn to one another, questioning each other.
One of them will say, "I had a companion.
He used to say, 'Are you really a believer?
When we have died and become dust and bones, will we really be judged?'
He will say, "Would you like to look?"
Then he will look and see him in the midst of Hell.
He will say, "By God, you nearly ruined me!
Had it not been for the blessing of my Lord, I would have been among those brought forth."
Are we not to die,
Except for our first death, and we will not be punished?
This is truly the supreme triumph.
For the like of this, let the workers work.
Is that a better hospitality, or the tree of Zaqqum?
We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers.
It is a tree that grows from the bottom of Hell.
Its fruit is like the heads of devils.
They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it.
Then on top of it they will have a mixture of scalding water.
Then their return is to Hell.
They found their fathers astray,
So they rushed to follow in their footsteps.
Most of the ancients went astray before them.
We sent warners among them.
See how those who were warned ended up.
Except for the devoted servants of God.
Noah called upon Us, and how excellent are those who respond!
We saved him and his family from the great distress.
We made his descendants the survivors.
We left for him among later generations.
Peace be upon Noah among all peoples.
This is how We reward those who do good.
He was one of Our believing servants.
Then We drowned the others.
Among his followers was Abraham.
He came to his Lord with a sound heart.
He said to his father and his people, "What do you worship?
Is it false gods other than God that you desire?
What then do you think of the Lord of all worlds?"
He cast a glance at the stars.
Then he said, "I am feeling ill."
So they turned away from him and left.
He turned to their gods and said, "Will you not eat?
What is wrong with you that you do not speak?"
Then he turned on them, striking with his right hand.
They came rushing toward him.
He said, "Do you worship what you carve,
When God created you and what you make?"
They said, "Build a structure for him and throw him into the blazing fire."
They plotted against him, but We made them the lowest.
He said, "I am going to my Lord. He will guide me.
My Lord, grant me a righteous child."
So We gave him good news of a forbearing boy.
When he was old enough to work alongside him, he said, "My son, I see in my dreams that I am slaughtering you. So tell me, what do you think?" He said, "My father, do what you are commanded. You will find me, God willing, among the patient."
When they had both submitted and he had laid him down on his forehead.
We called out to him, "O Abraham!"
"You have fulfilled the vision. This is how We reward those who do good."
This was clearly an evident trial.
We ransomed him with a great sacrifice.
We left for him a legacy among later generations.
Peace be upon Abraham.
This is how We reward those who do good.
He was one of Our believing servants.
We gave him good news of Isaac, a prophet among the righteous.
We blessed him and Isaac. Among their descendants are those who do good and those who clearly wrong themselves.
We bestowed favor upon Moses and Aaron.
We saved them and their people from the great distress.
We helped them, and they became the victors.
We gave them the clarifying Scripture.
We guided them to the straight path.
We left for them a legacy among later generations.
Peace be upon Moses and Aaron.
This is how We reward those who do good.
They were among Our believing servants.
Elias was among the messengers.
He said to his people, "Will you not be mindful?"
"Do you call upon Baal and abandon the Best of Creators?"
"God, your Lord and the Lord of your earliest ancestors?"
But they rejected him, so they will surely be brought forth for judgment.
Except the devoted servants of God.
We left for him a legacy among later generations.
Peace be upon Elias.
This is how We reward those who do good.
He was among Our believing servants.
Lot was among the messengers.
We saved him and his entire family.
Except an old woman who stayed behind.
Then We destroyed the others.
You pass by their ruins in the morning.
And at night. Will you not understand?
Jonah was among the messengers.
He fled to the laden ship.
He drew lots and was among the losers.
The whale swallowed him while he was blameworthy.
Had he not been among those who glorified God.
He would have remained in its belly until the Day they are resurrected.
We cast him onto the barren shore while he was ill.
We grew over him a gourd plant.
We sent him to a hundred thousand or more.
They believed, so We let them enjoy life for a while.
Ask them: does your Lord have daughters while they have sons?
Or did We create the angels as females while they witnessed?
Is it not from their own fabrication that they say,
"God has begotten"? They are liars.
Has He chosen daughters over sons?
What is wrong with you? How do you judge?
Will you not reflect?
Or do you have clear authority?
Then bring your scripture, if you are truthful.
They have claimed a kinship between Him and the jinn, yet the jinn know well that they will be brought forth.
Glory be to God, far above what they describe.
But not the devoted servants of God.
You and what you worship,
You cannot tempt anyone away from Him,
Except one who is destined to burn in Hell.
"There is none among us except that he has an assigned station.
We are those lined up in ranks.
We are those who glorify."
They used to say,
"If only we had a reminder from the ancients,
We would have been devoted servants of God."
But they rejected it, and soon they will know.
Our word has already gone forth to Our servants, the messengers:
They will be given victory.
Our forces will prevail.
So turn away from them for a while.
Watch them, for they will soon see.
Do they seek to hasten Our punishment?
When it descends upon their courtyard, dreadful will be the morning of those who were warned.
Turn away from them for a while.
Watch, for they will soon see.
Glory be to your Lord, the Lord of Might, far above what they describe.
Peace be upon the messengers.
All praise belongs to God, Lord of all worlds.
