Surah “The Winnowing Winds, The Scatterers”

as rendered by Fode Drame — 60 verses

By the scatterers of complete scattering.
And by the bearers of a heavy burden.
And by those who sail with gentleness.
And by those who distribute commandment.
Indeed that which you are promised is surely truthful.
And truly the day of judgment must surely come to pass.
By the heaven which is full of pathways.
Truly you surely are at variance in discourse.
Turned away from it is any who is willing to be turned away.
Curse is on the inventors of lies.
Those who are wandering in darkness, all forgetful.
They ask, “When shall be the day of recompense?”
That will be the day when they will be exposed to the ordeal by the fire.
[They will be told], “Taste you your ordeal. This is what you used to ask to be brought in haste.”
As for those who safeguard their own souls, they will be in gardens and fountains.
Receiving all that their Lord gives them. Truly they used to be before then those who acted in excellence.
They used to sleep but little in the night.
And in the early dawn they used to seek forgiveness.
And in their properties were marked out the right of the beggar and the destitute.
And in the earth there are signs for those who have certitude.
And within your own selves. Will you not then see?
And in the heaven is your provision and all that you are warned about.
And truly by the Lord of the heaven and of the earth, this is surely the truth as much as that you can speak.
Has the news of the gracious guests of Abraham come to you?
When they entered in upon him and they said, “Peace.” He said, “Peace.” Strange people.
Then he went back to his family and came with a fat calf.
And he presented it to them and he said, “Will you not eat?”
Then he sensed a fear from them. They said, “Fear not” and they gave him the glad tidings of a learned boy.
His wife came forward with a loud cry and she smote her face and said, “A barren old woman.”
They said [to her], “Thus has your Lord said this. Truly He it is The All-wise, The All-knowing.”
He said, “And what is your business in hand O you the messengers!”
They said, “We have been sent to a people who are evildoers.
So that We send down on them stones of hard clay.
Well marked from the presence of your Lord for those who waste their own souls.”
And We moved out who were there from among the believers.
And We didn’t find therein except one house of those who submitted to Allah.
And We left therein a sign for those who fear the painful punishment.
And about Moses when We sent him to Pharaoh with an authority most evident.
But he turned away to his clan and he said, “A sorcerer or a madman.”
And We seized him and his hosts and then We pitched them into the sea while he was blameworthy.
And about [the people of] ‘Ad when We sent upon them the barren wind.
It leaves nothing of that in which it has come upon until it made it into a rotten remain.
And about Thamud when they were told, “Enjoy for a little while.”
But they transgressed against the commandment of their Lord so they were seized by the thunder strike while they looked on.
Nor were they able to stand nor were they the ones who were victorious.
And the people of Noah from before. They used to be a people who were renegades.
And the heaven, We built it with power and truly We certainly are expanding it.
And the earth, We rolled it out and how best are those who spread out [the earth].
And from everything We have created pairs so that you may remember [the one who has no pair].
Therefore run unto Allah. Truly I am for you from Him a warner most evident.
And do not make another deity with Allah. Truly for you, I am from Him a warner most evident.
Thus never came unto those before them any messenger except that they said, “[He is] a sorcerer or a madman.”
Have they handed down such a counsel unto one another? Nay! They are a people who are transgressors.
So turn away from them and you are not to be blamed.
But remind, truly the reminding do benefit the believers.
And I have not created the Jinns and the humankind except that they serve Me [in truth].
I don’t want any sustenance from them nor do I want that they feed Me.
Truly Allah, He is the Provider of sustenance, The Master of power, The All Firm.
Truly for those who wrong their own souls, is a sin like the sin of their companions so let them not ask Me to hasten it.
Woe then for those who disbelieve from that day of which they are promised.
