5:1  O you who have embraced Faith, fulfil your commitments. Made lawful for you are the robust of the livestock, except for what is being stated to you. Unlawful is the hunt of game while you are in the state of pilgrimage. It is Allah! HE decrees what HE intends.
5:2  O you who have embraced Faith, do not take license with the markers of Allah, nor with the sacred month, nor with the sacred offering, nor with the neck bands, nor with those on their way to the Inviolable House of Worship, seeking the grace of their Rabb and HIS assent. And when you unbind yourselves [from the state of pilgrimage], then you may hunt. And let not the deep hatred of a people, for which they had barred you from the Inviolable House of Worship, offend you, lest you transgress. And cooperate with each other over the embodying of righteousness and conscientiousness. And do not collude in sin and hostility. Remain ever conscious of Allah. Surely, Allah is firm of requital.
5:3  Forbidden to you is carrion and blood. And the flesh of swine. And what is sacrificed in the name of other than Allah, and the animal strangled to death, the animal beaten fatally, the animal that fell to its death, the animal which was gored to death, or one eaten by another carnivore— save what you have cooked directly in the fire [having mentioned Allah’s name over it]. And [forbidden to you] is what was sacrificed to idols. [Forbidden too] is that you apportion out based on divining arrows. That is an iniquity. This day those who have disbelieved in your faith have given up. Do not therefore fear them— fear ME. Today I have perfected your faith for you and completed MY blessing upon you and I have approved Islam as your faith. Whoever is compelled by hunger, not one inwardly inclined to the sin— surely, Allah is forgiving, ever merciful.
5:4  They ask you what is made lawful for them. Say made lawful for you are the pristine and wholesome things. And [as for] that which you, as animal trainers, have taught to some of the hunting animals— you teach them from that which Allah has taught you. So eat of what they catch for you. But mention Allah’s name over it and be conscious of Allah. Behold! Allah is swift in reckoning.
5:5  Today lawful for you are the pristine and wholesome things, and the food of those who were given the timeless Book [of Scripture] is lawful for you. And your food is lawful to them. And [lawful] are women secured by wedlock from the believers, and women secured by wedlock from those who were given the timeless Book before you, when you give them their rightful due, as providers of marital security and protection— other than ones driven by lust, nor ones who take secret mistresses. Whoever disbelieves in the Faith— in vain indeed is his work, and in the Hereafter, he will be amongst the losers.
5:6  O you who have embraced Faith, when you prepare to stand for Prayer, wash your faces and your hands up to the elbows, and wipe your hands over your heads, [and also wash] your feet up to the ankles. And if you are bodily unclean, wash your body clean. If you are ill, or on a journey, or anyone from you has come back from relieving himself, or you sexually commingled with [your] women— and if you cannot find water— then wipe your palms with pristine earthly dust and pass them over your faces and your hands. Allah intends not to place any impediment upon you, but HE intends that HE purifies you and that HE brings to fruition HIS blessing upon you, to enable you to be thankful.
5:7  Remember the blessing of Allah upon you, and HIS covenant, which HE bound you with, when you said, “We have heard, and we have obeyed.” Be ever conscious of Allah. Surely, Allah is ever knowing of the bosoms’ inner holdings.
5:8  O you who have embraced Faith, be steadfastly dutiful witnesses for Allah, with the [utmost] fairness and do not let the hatred of a people offend you so much that you not be just. Be just. It is closer to God-consciousness. And stay conscious of Allah. Behold! Allah is ever aware of what you do.
5:9  Allah has promised those who have embraced Faith, and have done the right deeds, that for them is forgiveness and a transcendent reward.
5:10  And the ones who have disbelieved and denied the truth of OUR signs, they are reapers of Jaīm.
5:11  O you who have embraced Faith, remember the blessing of Allah upon you when a people were bent upon laying their hands on you, and HE held back their hands away from you. Stay conscious of Allah, and upon Allah let the believers rely.
5:12  Allah did take a covenant from the children of Israel, and WE raised among them twelve chiefs, and Allah said, “I indeed am with you. If you maintain Prayer for anchor, and give Zakat, and believe in MY Messengers and assist them, and loan to Allah a beautiful loan, I will assuredly efface your misdeeds and most certainly admit you to gardens, subservient to which rivers flow. Whoever among you is ungrateful after that [pledge], he has indeed strayed from the confines of the Way.
5:13  Thereafter, for their breaking of their covenant WE denounced them and rendered their hearts hard. They distort the [divine] Word, taking away from its substance, and have forgotten an essential part of what they were reminded through it. You will not cease to discover dishonesty from them, excluding a few of them. So [for the few who are good], pardon them and forgo. Behold! Allah loves those who selflessly do good unto others.
5:14  And from those who said, “We are Christians,” WE took their covenant. They have since forgotten an essential part of what they were reminded of through it. So, WE let loose the enmity and hatred between them through to the Day of Judgement. And Allah shall tell them about what they were engaging in.
5:15  O people of timeless Book, OUR Messenger has come to you expressly revealing to you much of what you have been concealing from the book, and [he has come] to pardon much. There has now come to you from Allah a light and a plain and open book
5:16  Allah guides with it [i.e., the open book], whoever seeks HIS assent, to the pathways of peace and brings them out of [layers of] darkness towards light, by HIS leave, and guides them to a timelessly straight path.
5:17  They were indeed ungrateful, the ones who said, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.” Say, “Who could take away any sovereign authority from Allah, if HE intended the end of the Messiah son of Mary and his mother and whoever is on earth— all together? To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them. HE creates what HE wills. Allah has almighty control over all things and their measure.
5:18  The [exclusivists of the] Jews and the Christians say, “We are sons of Allah, and we are HIS most beloved.” Say, “Then why does HE punish you for your trespasses? Nay you are mortals from among those HE has created. HE forgives whom HE wills and punishes whom HE wills. To Allah belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them and unto HIM is the end [of all journeys].
5:19  O people of the timeless Book, there has come to you OUR Messenger, expressly revealing [the Truth] to you, subsequent to a pause of Messengers— lest you say, “Not any conveyor of divine tidings came to us, nor a warner.” So then, now a conveyor of divine tidings, and warner has come to you. Allah has almighty control over all things and their measure.
5:20  [There was a time] when Moses said to his people. “O my people remember Allah’s blessing upon you when HE raised prophets amongst you and made you self-ruling and HE gave you that which HE had not given to any one in all the realms.”
5:21  “O my people enter the holy land which Allah has prescribed for you and do not turn back in flight, for then you will revert to being losers.”
5:22  They said, “O Moses, behold! In it are a tyrannical people. We shall never enter it until they leave from there. If they do leave from there, then we shall surely enter.”
5:23  Said, two men, from among the ones who were fearful— both of whom Allah had blessed, “Enter upon them through the gate, for once you get past it, you will have prevailed. And then, rely on Allah, if you be believers.
5:24  They said, “O Moses, we will never enter so long as they are in there. Therefore, you and your Rabb go forth and fight. We shall stay, sitting right here.”
5:25  He said, “My Rabb, I control none except myself and my brother, so make a distinction between us and the disobedient people.”
5:26  HE said, “Then so it is: forbidden is [this land] to them for forty years. They will wander aimlessly across the land. So, do not distress over the disobedient people.”
5:27  Recite unto them the story of the two sons of Adam with the right [of the Truth]: When they had both offered a sacrifice, accepted was the sacrifice of one, and accepted not from the other. Said he, “I will definitely kill you.” Said he [i.e., the other], “Hearken! Allah accepts only from the God-conscious.
5:28  If you raise your hand to kill me, I will not raise my hand at you to kill you. I am ever fearful of Allah, the Rabb of all realms.
5:29  I do intend that you bear back my sin along with your sin, so you be of the reapers of the fire. And that is the requital of the wrongdoers.”
5:30  But his soul gave consent to him, to the killing of his brother, and so he killed him. Thus, he became one of the losers.
5:31  Then Allah dispatched a raven, it dug up the earth to show him how to cover his brother’s naked body. Said he, “O woe unto me! Was I not able, that I be like this raven, so I could cover my brother’s naked body?” Then, he became of the remorseful ones.
5:32  A period [removed] from that, WE decreed for the Children of Israel that whoever has killed a soul—for other than [this soul having killed] another, or [for other than fomenting] violent conflict in the land— then it is as if he has killed all of humankind. And whoever saves a life, then it is as if he has saved the lives of all of humankind. OUR Messengers did indeed come to them with telling proofs. Then, after all of that, many of them through the lands are decidedly prodigal.
5:33  The only just due for the ones who wage war against Allah and HIS Messenger and are purposefully engaged in fomenting violent conflict in the land, is that they be killed, or they be crucified, or their hands and feet be severed on opposite sides, or they be removed from the land. That is the disgrace for them in this world. And in the Hereafter, there is a transcendent consequence for them.
5:34  Except those who repent—before your gaining control over them. For do know that Allah is forgiving, ever merciful.
5:35  O you who have embraced Faith, be conscious of Allah and seek all means of approach towards HIM. Strive hard in HIS pathway to enable yourselves to succeed.
5:36  Hearken! Those who reject the truth— if they had the sum of everything on earth, and equivalent to it alongside, [as expiation] to gain release from the punishment on the Day of Resurrection—it will not be accepted from them. For them is an agonizing punishment.
5:37  They will want to get away from the fire, but they are not to get away from it. For them is an affixed punishment.
5:38  The man [earning his living by] robbing others and the woman [earning her living by] robbing others— cut the hands of both. A recompense for what they have earned— a deterrence [and warning] from Allah. Allah is almighty, all-wise.
5:39  Even so, whoever repents after his wrongdoing and makes amends, then surely Allah readily accepts his repentance. Hearken! Allah is forgiving, ever merciful.
5:40  Do you not know that it is Allah— to HIM belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth? HE punishes whom HE wills, and HE forgives whom HE wills. HE has control over all things and their measure.
5:41  O Messenger, let them not grieve you, those who race to outdo each other in their disbelief— from among those who say, “We believe,” with their mouths, while their hearts disbelieve, and from among those who follow the Jewish faith. They are attuned to the false and attuned to another set of people who have not come to you. They twist words out of their context, saying, “If you are given this, then seize it, but if you are not given this, then beware.” Whoever’s trial Allah intends; never will you have any say for him with Allah. Those are the ones whose hearts Allah has intended not to purify. For them is moral disgrace in this world. And for them awaits a transcendent consequence in the Hereafter—
5:42  Attuned to the false, devourers, used to the ill-gotten. So, if they come to you, judge between them. or decline them. If you do decline them, never in any way can they harm you. If you do judge between them, judge equitably. Indeed, Allah loves the equitable.
5:43  How is it that they choose you as judge while they have the Torah? In it is the ruling of Allah. Furthermore, after all of that, they turn away! Such are not of the believers.
5:44  It is WE Who sent down the Torah, therein is guidance, and light. By it, the prophets who have surrendered to God, judge [matters], for those who have followed the Jewish faith. And [so do] the Rabbis and the scholars with what was entrusted to them from the timeless book of Allah, and they were witnesses thereto. Therefore, be not in awe of men, but be in awe of ME, and do not barter away MY verses for a petty earthly gain. Whoever does not rule by what Allah has sent down—they are the disbelievers.
5:45  WE have decreed for them in it [Torah]: a life for a life, an eye for an eye, a nose for a nose, an ear for an ear, a tooth for a tooth and for all the wounds an equal retribution. But he who charitably remits [his right of retribution], for him is an effacement of his own sins. Whoever does not judge by what Allah has sent down— they are the unjust.
5:46  And WE sent Jesus, son of Mary to follow in their tracks, as a validator for what was before him of the Torah. And WE gave him the Injīl, therein is guidance and light, and as a validator of what was before it of the Torah, and as guidance and admonition for the God-Conscious.
5:47  Let the followers of the Injīl judge by what Allah has revealed to them in it. Whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed to them— they then are the iniquitous ones.
5:48  WE revealed upon you the timeless Book with the right [of the Truth], as a validator for what was before it, and as an authoritative guardian over it. Therefore, judge between them by what Allah has sent down, and do not follow their whims, counter to any of the Truth which has come to you. For every one of you WE have appointed a code of law and a method. And if Allah had willed, HE could have made you one community, but HE tests you with what HE has given to you. Therefore, vie with each other for good. To Allah is your defined collective return. HE will then inform you about that in which you were differing.
5:49  Judge you between them by what Allah has sent down and do not follow their whims and beware of them lest they tempt you away from some of what Allah has sent down unto you. If they turn away, then know that Allah intends to beset them with some of their very [own] trespasses. Indeed, many amongst humankind [through many ages] have been defiantly iniquitous.
5:50  So then, is it the judgement of the [times of] Ignorance they seek? Is there any better than Allah in judgement for a people who pursue certainty?
5:51  O you who have embraced Faith, do not take the [exclusivists of the] Jews and Christians as your protective allies. They are allies unto one another. Whoever of you allies with them, he surely is of them. Of certain, Allah does not guide the unjust people.
5:52  So then, you see those in whose hearts is a disease, scurrying in their midst, saying, “We fear that our fortune has come full circle.” It may well be that Allah brings about the victory [of the believers] or a command from HIS realm, so they become remorseful for what they had harbored in their souls.
5:53  And those who have embraced Faith will say, “Are these the people who swore by Allah, by their most earnest oaths, that they were categorically with you! Their deeds have miscarried, and they have ended up losers.”
5:54  O you who have embraced Faith, whoever of you backs away from his Faith, Allah shall bring forth a people HE loves while they love HIM, who are meek with the believers and strong with the disbelievers, and strive in the way of Allah, without fearing the disapproval of an [earthly] disapprover. Such is the grace of Allah. HE bestows it upon whom HE wills. And Allah is infinite, ever knowing.
5:55  Your only true allies are Allah and HIS Messenger, and those who have embraced Faith— the ones who maintain Prayer for anchor, and give Zakat, and cherish bowing to God.
5:56  Whoever takes for his ally, Allah, and HIS Messenger, and those who have embraced Faith [is rightly allied]— for the partisans of Allah are the ones to prevail.
5:57  O you who have embraced Faith, do not take as allies those— from the ones who were given the timeless Book before you, and from the disbelievers— who take your faith as an object of jest and play. Be ever conscious of Allah if you be believers.
5:58  When you call to Prayer, they take it as a jest and play. That is because they are a people who do not seek to understand.
5:59  Say, “O people of the timeless Book [of Scripture]! Do you resent us for a reason except that we have believed in Allah, and that which has been sent down upon us, and that which was sent down before? While [it is] that most of you are iniquitous?”
5:60  Say, “Shall I tell you of worse than that as a resulting consequence with Allah? One who Allah has denounced and with whom HE became indignant, and rendered of such as him, the apes, and the swine— and he who served a false master. Those, [such as him] are worse in station, and are furthest astray from the confines of the Way.”
5:61  When they come to you, they say, “We have believed.” They did indeed arrive in disbelief, and they did indeed leave with it. Allah knows best what they were concealing.
5:62  And you see many of them compete in sin and transgression, and their consumption of the ill-gotten. Categorically wretched is that which they do.
5:63  Why do the Rabbis and religious scholars not forbid them from their sinful utterances and their consumption of the ill-gotten? Categorically wretched is what they collectively practice.
5:64  The [exclusivists of the] Jews say that the hand of Allah is shackled. Shackled are their hands, and they are denounced for what they have said. Nay HIS both hands are ever extended out, bestowing as HE wills. That which has been revealed to you by your Rabb, will inevitably magnify the uncontained transgression, and ingratitude amongst many of them. WE have cast among them enmity and hatred through to the Day of Resurrection. As often as they light a fire to make war, Allah extinguishes it. They strive to spread discord across the land, and Allah does not love the ones who spread discord.
5:65  If the people of the timeless book [of Scripture] were to believe, and be conscious of God, WE would indeed efface their misdeeds from them and admit them to the gardens of bliss.
5:66  If they had properly instated [the teachings of] the Torah and the Injīl, and what was revealed unto them from their Rabb, they surely could have partaken from above [and beyond] them, and from under their feet. Among them is a balanced community, while many of them act wickedly through what they do.
5:67  O Messenger, convey what has been revealed upon you from your Rabb. If you do not do so, then you will not have conveyed HIS message. Allah! HE will preserve you from all humankind. Behold! Allah does not guide the people who cover the Truth.
5:68  Say, “O people of the timeless Book, you are not on anything [of guidance] until you stake your standing in the Torah and the Injīl, or what has been revealed by your Rabb to you.” And what has been revealed upon you by your Rabb, will most certainly magnify the uncontained transgression, and ingratitude amongst many of them. Do not therefore sorrow over the ungrateful people.
5:69  Of certain, those who have embraced the faith [shown by the Quran], and those who follow the Jewish faith, and the Sabeans, and the Christians— whoever believes in Allah and the Day of Accountability and do right— no fear is to be upon them, and neither shall they grieve.
5:70  WE did indeed take a covenant from the children of Israel, and WE sent to them OUR Messengers. Every time a Messenger came to them with something their souls did not like— a set [of the Messengers] they persistently denied, while a set they would go on to kill.
5:71  They had figured that there was to be no trial, so they went blind and deaf. Thereafter their Rabb relented towards them, and then again many of them went blind and deaf. Allah is all-seeing of what they do.
5:72  They have certainly disbelieved, those who say, “Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.” Whereas the Messiah said, “O children of Israel, worship Allah, my Rabb and your Rabb.” Hearken! Whoever assigns partners to Allah— Allah has forbidden the Garden to him, and his shelter is the fire. And there shall be no helpers for the unjust.
5:73  They have certainly disbelieved, those who have said, “Allah is a third of three.” There is not any deity except the One God. If they do not desist from what they say, a painful suffering is bound to scrub those of them who have disbelieved.
5:74  Will they then not turn in repentance to Allah and seek HIS forgiveness? Allah is forgiving, ever merciful.
5:75  The Messiah son of Mary is not else but a Messenger. Before him, there were other Messengers who [came and] have passed away. His mother lived the Truth. They were consumers of the food [of mortals]. Observe how clearly, WE express the messages for them. Yet, behold, whence and how they are hoodwinked!
5:76  Say, “Do you worship besides Allah that which authorizes for you neither a harm nor a gain, while Allah is the all-hearing, the all-knowing.
5:77  O people of the timeless Book, do not induct exaggerations in your faith, other than the Truth and do not follow the whims of a people who did stray from the Path in prior times, and caused many others to stray; and they strayed from the confines of the Way.
5:78  Denounced by the discourse of David, and Jesus, son of Mary were the ones amongst children of Israel who disbelieved. That was because they disobeyed and were transgressing.
5:79  They did not abstain from the abominable— they did it. Vile indeed was what they were doing.
5:80  You see many of them allying with those who reject the truth. Wretched indeed is what they have sent ahead for themselves, given that Allah had dissented to them. They are abiders in the [consequential] punishment.
5:81  Had they [truly] believed in Allah and the Prophet and what has been revealed to him, they would not have taken them as their allies. But many of them are iniquitous.
5:82  You are sure to find the most intense of all people in opposition to the believers, to be the [exclusivists of the] Jews and those who are polytheistic. And you are sure to find the nearest of them in affection to the believers to be the ones who say, “We are Christians.” It is so because among them are priests and monks, and they are not given to arrogance.
5:83  When they hear what has been revealed to the Messenger, you will see their eyes well up with tears, owing to what they have recognized of the Truth, saying: “Our Rabb, we have believed. Do therefore list us with the witnesses.
5:84  And what cause do we have not to believe in Allah and that which has come to us of the Truth, while we consistently desire that our Rabb admits us into the company of the righteous people.”
5:85  So, Allah has rewarded them for what they said, with gardens, subservient to which rivers flow —abiders therein. Such is the reward of those who do good in selfless devotion to God.
5:86  The ones who have disbelieved the Truth and denied the truth of OUR messages, they are the reapers of Jaīm.
5:87  O you who have embraced Faith, do not forbid the pristine wholesome things which Allah has made lawful to you and do not transgress. Hearken! Allah does not love the transgressors.
5:88  Consume of the pristinely lawful [things] which Allah has provided for your sustenance and remain conscious of Allah— the One in WHOM [and by WHOSE will] you are believers.
5:89  Allah does not hold you to account for the unintended blunders in your oaths, but HE will hold you to account for the oaths you have [thoughtfully] joined. So then [for an unkept oath], its expiation is the feeding of ten needy people, averaging that with which you feed your own family, or clothing them, or freeing a slave. Whoever finds that he is lacking the means, he may instead fast for three days. Such is the expiation for your oaths whenever you have [declaratively] sworn to them. Keep your oaths. Thus does Allah expound HIS verses to you, to enable you to be grateful [to HIM].
5:90  O you who have embraced Faith, the intoxicants, and the gambling, and the idolatrous practices, and the divination by arrows [in your midst] are a [spiritual] pestilence of Satan’s doing. Hence steer away from the pestilence, to attain spiritual success.
5:91  Satan desires to sow enmity and hatred between you through [these] intoxicants, and the games of chance, and to prevent you from remembering Allah, and from the Prayer. Will you then not desist?
5:92  Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and be vigilant [against Satan’s temptations]. If you do turn away, know that upon OUR Messenger is only [the duty of] the clearest conveyance.
5:93  There is no offense attributable to the ones who have believed, and have done the right deeds, for what they have partaken of food [in the past], as long as they are conscientious, and keep faith, and engage in the right deeds, and are thereafter conscientious, keep faith, and thereafter are conscientious and do good selflessly. Allah loves those who do good in selfless devotion to God.
5:94  O you who have embraced Faith, Allah will surely test you with something of the game— within the reach of your hands and your spears— so that Allah may make evident who among you is fearful of HIM, in all that is hidden from you yet fully manifest to HIM. Whoever transgresses the bounds after this— for him is a painful punishment.
5:95  O you who have embraced Faith, do not kill game while you are in the state of pilgrimage. Whoever of you kills one intentionally, the consequence is an offering equivalent in cattle, dictated by two of you who embody justice, to reach the Kaʿbah. Or as an expiation, the feeding of needy people, or a fair number of days of fasting so that he may taste the depravity of his undertaking. Allah has pardoned what has passed, but whoever relapses, then Allah will exact retribution from him. Allah is almighty, with the absolute right of retribution.
5:96  Lawful to you is game of the sea. And its food is a provision for you and for the travelers. And forbidden to you is game on land for whatever period you are in the state of a pilgrimage. Be ever conscious of Allah, the One unto WHOM you shall all be gathered.
5:97  Allah has made the Kaʿbah—the inviolable House— a timeless nexus for humanity, and the sacred month, and the sacrificial offering and the neck bands. That, so you may awaken to the reality that Allah knows whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth, and that Allah has complete knowledge of all things.
5:98  Know that Allah is firm of requital, and that Allah is forgiving, ever merciful.
5:99  Nothing is incumbent upon the Messenger except the conveyance [of the message given to him]. Allah fully knows what you reveal and what you conceal.
5:100  Say, “The profane does not match up to the pure, even if you were to be astonished at the commonness of the profane. So be ever conscious of Allah, O seekers of the essence, to enable you to attain transcendent success.”
5:101  O you who have embraced Faith, do not ask about things, [which] if made explicit to you will vex you. If you ask about them while the Quran is being revealed, they will be made explicit to you. Allah has absolved you of them. Allah is forgiving, forbearing.
5:102  People before you did ask [such questions], thereafter, they became disbelievers through them.
5:103  Allah has not rendered [camels into categories] of a Baḥīrah, or a Sāibah or a Waṣīlah or a Ḥāmi. These are but lies the disbelievers have fabricated and attributed to Allah and most of them do apply reason.
5:104  When it is said to them, “Come to what Allah has revealed, and to the Messenger,” they respond, “Whatever we found our forefathers following, has sufficed us.” What! Even if their forefathers were not knowing anything and were not rightly guided?
5:105  O you who have embraced Faith, upon you [is the responsibility of] your own souls. Those who stray in error cannot harm you when you stay rightly guided. Unto Allah is your defined return, for all of you. Then HE will tell you about all that you were doing.
5:106  O you who have embraced Faith, when death is facing one of you, witnessing between you during the bequest is to be by two of you who embody justice, or two others apart from you, if you are travelling across the land and death’s ordeal befalls you. Hold the two back after the Prayers, then put the two under oath upon Allah if [any of] you harbor doubts about them: “We shall not make a petty trade of it [i.e., our testimony] even if it be a close relative and we will not belie the evidence of Allah, or otherwise we shall duly be of the sinners.”
5:107  Subsequently, if it is discovered regarding the two that they did credibly incur sin upon themselves, then two others to stand in their place, the foremost two from the ones with credible claim. Then sworn to Allah: “This, our testimony is more accurate than the testimony of those two, and we have not violated [the truth], for then we shall duly be of the unjust.”
5:108  That is fundamental: that they offer testimony, based on its face value, or they fear that [their] oaths will be refuted after the oaths of those others. Be ever conscious of Allah and listen. Allah does not guide the iniquitous people.
5:109  On a day Allah will gather all the Messengers, then ask, “What response did you get?” They will say, “We have no knowledge. It is YOU— YOU are the supreme knower of the unknowable.”
5:110  [On that day, the perfect perspective was seen by all], when Allah said, “O Jesus, son of Mary, remember My blessing upon you and your mother when I empowered you with the Spirit of the Holy, to speak to the people from the cradle and as a man of mature age. [And remember] when WE taught you the timeless Book along with the wisdom [associated with it] and the Torah and the Injīl. [And remember] when you, with MY permission, created the like of a life-sized bird of clay and then you breathed into it, and then by MY permission it became a bird. [And remember] your healing of the blind-by-birth and the one plagued with leprosy, by MY permission. [And remember] when you brought forth the dead one, with MY permission. [And remember] when I thwarted the children of Israel from [harming] you. [And remember] when you came to them with telling proofs, and it was said by those among them who disbelieved, “This is nothing except blatant sorcery.”
5:111  And when I inspired the white-garbed ones: “Believe in ME and MY Messenger.” They had said, “We have believed and bear YOU witness to this that we have surrendered [unto YOU].”
5:112  When the white-garbed ones had said, “O Jesus, son of Mary! Is your Rabb able to send down upon us a repast from the heavens? Said Jesus, “Be conscious of Allah if you are believers.”
5:113  They said, “We wish to eat thereof and to put our hearts to rest and truly know that you have spoken the truth to us and be among the witnesses to it.”
5:114  Jesus, son of Mary, said, “O Allah! Our Rabb! Send down upon us a repast from Heaven, to be a feast for us — for the first of us and the last of us, and a sign from YOU. And give us our sustenance, YOU are the best of the Sustainers.
5:115  Said Allah, “I am ever its sender upon you. Whoever amongst you disbelieves hereafter— such a one I shall punish with a punishment by which no one has been punished in all realms.”
5:116  And when Allah [will have] said, “O Jesus, son of Mary, did you say to people, ‘Take me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?’” Said he, “YOURS is all glory and might. It is not for me that I speak of that to which I have never had any right. If I had said so— YOU would have certainly known it. YOU know what is within myself, and I do not know what is in YOURSELF. It is YOU— YOU are the supreme knower of the humanly unknowable.
5:117  I did not say to them anything except what YOU commanded me with: Worship Allah— My Rabb and your Rabb. I was a witness over them, all the while that I was in their midst. Then when YOU collected me, YOU were the Watcher over them. And YOU are witness over all things.
5:118  If YOU punish them— they indeed are YOUR slaves and if YOU forgive them—YOU alone are the almighty, the all-wise.”
5:119  Allah said, “This day here, the truthful shall profit for their truthfulness. For them are gardens subservient to which rivers flow, abiders therein beyond time. Allah has accepted from them [their devotion], and they have accepted from HIM [HIS reward] — transcendent success, such as that!”
5:120  To Allah belongs the sovereignty of the heavens and the earth and whatever is in them. HE has complete control over all things and their measure.
