10:1  Alif. Lãm. Ra. Those there are signs of the wise Book.
10:2  Is it a wonder to people that WE directed inspiration toward a man from amongst them: Warn humankind and convey to ones who have embraced Faith that for them is the stride of truth with their Rabb? The disbelievers have said, “This here is a definite brazen sorcerer.”
10:3  Behold! Your Rabb is Allah, Who created the heavens and the earth in six [heavenly] days. Beyond that, HE set HIS attributes to reign over all manifestation. HE ushers the Command [into time and place]. There is no intercessor except by HIS leave. That is Allah, your Rabb—worship HIM! Will you then not bear [that] in mind!
10:4  To HIM is your collective defined return. A promise of Allah—rightfully. It is indeed HE who originates creation and creates anew thereafter to equitably compensate those who had embraced Faith and had done the right deeds. While for those who had disbelieved is a drink of a fluid bereft of mercy [amīm], and a painful punishment, because they were rejecting the Truth.
10:5  HE it is Who made the sun a lamp, and the moon a radiance, and measured out stages for it, so you may know the count of the periods, and the reckoning [of a common calendar]. Allah has not created this, except in [expression of the] Truth. HE distinctly frames the Signs for people who [seek to] know.
10:6  Behold! In the contrast of the night and the day, and in whatever Allah has created in the Heavens and on the Land, are signs for a people who are conscientious.
10:7  Indeed, the ones who do not expect the meeting of OURS and are pleased with the lower life of the world and have staked their fulfilment to it, and the ones who are heedless, in the face of OUR signs—
10:8  Such as them—their shelter is the fire, because of what they were earning.
10:9  Verily, those who have embraced Faith, and have done the right deeds, their Rabb guides them in their faith. Rivers in subservience to them, will flow in gardens of perpetual bliss.
10:10  Their invocation therein, “YOURS is all glory and might, O Allah.” And their greeting therein will be Peace [Salaam]! And their enduring invocation will be, “All praise belongs to Allah, Rabb of all realms.”
10:11  If Allah were to hasten for humankind the ill [consequence of their actions], [at pace with] their haste for the good [they seek in their lives], their term would have certainly been concluded. So, WE let them be—those who do not expect the meeting of OURS, to wander blindly in their uncontained transgression.
10:12  When the [inevitable] hardship grazes man, he calls unto US, for its removal, whether while he sits it out, or is [still] standing. And then when in time WE give him relief from his hardship, he goes on as if he did not call unto US for the hardship which afflicted him. Thus, was made fair seeming to the prodigal what they were doing.
10:13  WE have indeed destroyed many generations before you when they did wrong, while Messengers came to them with telling proofs. And they were not going to believe. Thus, do WE requite the people guilty of flouting Guidance.
10:14  Then WE made you successors in the land after them, so WE may bring to light how you behave.
10:15  Whenever OUR verses are recited to them as telling proofs, those not expecting the meeting of OURS have said, “Bring a recital other than this or alter it.” Say, “It is not for me to change it on my own volition. I do not follow anything other than what is revealed unto me. Surely, I fear the punishment of a transcendent day if I disobeyed my Rabb.”
10:16  Say, “Had Allah so willed, I would not have recited it to you, and HE would not have imparted to you a sense [of the hidden Reality] with it. Ere this I have dwelt a whole life in your midst. Will you then not apply reason?”
10:17  So, who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah, or gives the lie to HIS signs? Surely, the flouters of divine guidance will not succeed.
10:18  They worship others besides Allah— entities which can neither hurt them nor profit them, and say, “These here are our intercessors with Allah.” Say, “Are you informing Allah of anything HE does not know in the heavens and in the earth?” Limitless is HE in HIS glory and supremely exalted above what they associate with HIM.
10:19  And humankind was but one community— from there they differed. Had there not been a pronouncement from your Rabb, which took precedence, that which they differ in would have been duly judged between them.
10:20  And they say, “Why was a sign not sent upon him by his Rabb.” Say, “The unseeable Reality belongs to Allah. So, bide. I too am with you, among the biders.”
10:21  When, WE have humankind taste mercy after a hardship has afflicted them, that is just when they have plan [to plant doubt and dissension] in OUR verses. Say, “Allah is swifter in planning.” Certainly, OUR emissaries record what you scheme.
10:22  HE it is WHO eases your travel on the land and the sea. [It is ease] until when you are in the vessels [of your making], and [the vessels] sail with them [on board] with a gentle breeze—and they are thrilled thereat. A ferocious storm comes upon it, while the waves come upon them from every place, and they sense that they are fully surrounded. They call Allah, sincere to HIM in their faith, “If YOU deliver us from this, we will certainly be of the grateful ones.”
10:23  Then when HE has delivered them— they pursue across the Land other than the right and just. O humankind, your trespass is against your own selves, [pursuing] the temporal offerings of the earthly life. Then to US is your defined return, so WE may inform you of what you were doing.
10:24  The example of this earthly life is only like water, which WE had sent down from the sky, imbued by the flora of the land— of which [both] men and [their] cattle eat. [There is no claim] until when the land decks itself with rich adornment, and exudes its beauty, and its settlers think that they are masters over it. Comes OUR command, by night or by day, WE render it reaped as if it never bore largesse the day before. Thus, do WE distinctly frame the signs, for a people who reflect.
10:25  Allah calls you to the Home of Peace, and HE guides whosoever HE wills towards a straight path.
10:26  For the ones who did good in devotion to God, there is the good [in return] and more. Neither gloom nor shame will cover their faces. They are the beneficiaries of Paradise—abiders therein.
10:27  While the ones who earned their ill deeds—the recompense of an ill deed is in like of it, and humiliation will cover them. They will not have any defender against Allah. It will be as if their faces had been overlaid with light-usurping patches of the night. They are the reapers of the fire—abiders therein.
10:28  On a day WE will assemble them all together, then WE will say to those who associated partners with God, “In your proper places you and your false gods!” Thus, WE separated them apart. And their false gods said, “It was not us you were worshipping!
10:29  For Allah suffices as witness between us and you. Surely, we were quite oblivious about your worship.”
10:30  There, every soul experiences what it had rendered in the past. And unto Allah, their True Master, they were returned. And whatever they were fabricating had forsaken them.
10:31  Say, “Who sustains you from the sky and the land? Or who owns sound and sight? Who brings forth the living from the dead, and who brings forth the dead from the living, and Who ushers the Command [into time and place]?” They shall say, “Allah.” Say then, “Will you then not be conscious of HIM?”
10:32  That then is Allah for you, your Rabb, the Reality. For what is there beyond the Reality except the error-borne illusions? So how and which way are you orientating?
10:33  Thus, rightfully due is the pronouncement of your Rabb upon the ones who are iniquitous, that they will not believe.
10:34  Say, “Is there any amongst your false gods who originates creation and then recreates it?” Say, “Allah originates creation and then HE recreates it. So whence and how are you being hoodwinked?”
10:35  Say, “Is there any amongst your false gods who guides to the Truth? Say, Allah guides to the Truth. Is then One Who guides to the Truth more worthy to be followed, or one who cannot guide unless he be guided? So then, what is the matter with you? How do you judge?”
10:36  Most of them do not follow, except an assumption. Surely, the [unfounded] assumption does not award any independence from the Truth. Of certain, Allah is fully knowing of what they do.
10:37  It is not ever for this Quran that it be put together by anyone other than Allah. On the contrary, it is a validating yardstick of what was before it—and distinct piece of the timeless Book. There is no doubt that it is from the Rabb of all realms.
10:38  Or they say, “He [i.e., the Prophet] put it together.” Say, “Bring a surah like it and call upon whosoever you possibly can, short of Allah— if you be truthful.”
10:39  Nay, they have given the lie to what they have encompassed not in knowledge, and not yet has its factual meaning come to them. Thus, did others before them give the lie. See then, how was the end-fate of the wrongdoers!
10:40  And of them are such who believe in it, and of them are such who do not believe in it, and your Rabb knows best the ones who spread discord.
10:41  And if they deny you, say, “Unto me my deeds and unto you your deeds. You are absolved of what I do, and I am absolved of what you do.”
10:42  And among them [who deny you] are those who come to listen to you. So [by the evidence of their denial] will you make the deaf listen, if they were not to engage their intellect?
10:43  And among them are such who look at you. So [by evidence of their denial] will you guide the blind if they were not to be insightful?
10:44  Allah does not wrong the people one bit, but it is the people who wrong themselves.
10:45  And on the day when HE gathers them together, it will be as if they tarried but an hour in the light of day, getting acquainted between themselves. Ruined indeed are the ones who denied the meeting with Allah and were not guided.
10:46  Whether WE duly show you some of what WE have promised them, or WE duly collect you [in death]—unto US is their defined return. Beyond that, Allah is ever a witness over what they do.
10:47  For every community there is a Messenger. Therefore, when and after their Messenger has come, they shall have been judged with fairness, and they will not be wronged.
10:48  They say, “When will this promise come to pass, if you are truthful?”
10:49  Say, “I own neither a harm nor a gain for myself, except what Allah has willed. For every community is a set term. When their appointed time has come, they can neither delay it by a moment, nor can they advance it.”
10:50  Say, “Have you considered: HIS punishment could come to you while at home at night, or under the open sun?” Which of it do the flouters of divine guidance seek to hasten [upon themselves]?
10:51  Will you believe in it after it happens? NOW! While heretofore you had sought to hasten it!”
10:52  Then it will be said to those who did wrong, “Partake of the punishment of immortality. Are you being recompensed for aught except for what you had been earning?
10:53  They ask of you to tell them, “Is this a fact?” Say, “Yes, by my Rabb— of certain, it is an absolute fact. And you cannot ever be its thwarters.
10:54  If it were that, every soul that did wrong had whatever is across earth, it would readily offer it in ransom, and they will feel inner remorse the moment they see the punishment. Between them, they shall be equitably judged, and they will not be wronged.
10:55  Without question or condition— whatever is in the heavens and the earth belongs to Allah. Without question or condition, the promise of Allah is truly due, though most of them do not realize.
10:56  HE gives life, and HE gives death, and unto HIM are you being returned.
10:57  O humanity, there has now come to you a source of good counsel from your Rabb, and a healing for what is at your core, and guidance, and mercy for the believers.
10:58  Say, “In the grace of Allah and in HIS mercy— by that let them rejoice. It is better than that which they amass.”
10:59  Say, “Have you considered what all Allah has sent down for you for your sustenance— then [some] of it you make forbidden and [some] lawful? Ask, “Did Allah give you leave, or do you invent an attribution to Allah?”
10:60  What will be the supposition of the ones who invent the lie they attribute to Allah, on the Day of Resurrection? Verily! Allah is the sole Source of grace upon humankind but most of them are ungrateful.
10:61  Not are you in any state or situation, and neither do you recite from the Quran, nor do you all undertake any deed, without US being witnesses over you— from the moment you pour yourselves into it. Not any particle’s weight in the land nor in the heavens slips away from your Rabb— neither smaller than that nor bigger—except that it is in an ever-explicit indelible record.
10:62  Without question and of certain, no fear shall come upon the allies of Allah, and neither shall they grieve.
10:63  [They are] the ones who had embraced Faith and were conscious of God.
10:64  For them is the good tiding in the life of the world and in the Hereafter— not any change to the pronouncements of Allah. That is the transcendent attainment.
10:65  Let not their utterances grieve you. Surely, all might and honor—in their entirety, belong to Allah. HE is all-hearing, ever knowing.
10:66  Without exception, to Allah belongs whosoever is in the heavens and whosoever is on the land. And what [exactly] do they follow— the ones who invoke partners, besides Allah? They follow nothing save [their baseless] assumption, and they do nothing but guess.
10:67  HE it is WHO made the night for you, so you may settle tranquilly in it, and [made] the day an enabler of sight. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who pay attention.
10:68  They have said, “Allah has taken a son.” Limitless is HE in HIS might and glory. HE is self-sufficient, free of any need. Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is across the earth is HIS. Could there ever be any license with you on this!? Do you say concerning Allah that which you do not know?
10:69  Say, “Verily, those who invent this lie, attributing it to Allah, will not succeed.”
10:70  A temporal indulgence in the world, then to US is their defined return. Then WE will make them partake of the severe punishment, because they were hiding the Truth.
10:71  Recite to them the account of Noah: When he said to his people, “If my being here, and my reminding you of the signs of Allah has become too burdensome on you—then in Allah I have placed my trust. So then, piece together your course of action, and your partners, then let not your course of action cause you any anxiety, then apply it fully to me, and give me no respite.
10:72  But if you turn away [from the Message]— I have not asked you for any reward. My reward is up to none, save Allah, and I am commanded to be of the ones who surrender themselves unto God.
10:73  Yet they denied him. So, WE delivered him and those with him on the vessel, and WE made them successors. And WE drowned those who denied OUR signs. So, see how end-fate was of the warned.
10:74  Then WE dispatched Messengers after him unto their [respective] peoples, and they brought them telling proofs, yet they were not going to believe in what they had repudiated from the outset. Thus, do WE set a seal upon the hearts of the transgressors.
10:75  Then after them, WE dispatched Moses and Aaron with OUR signs unto Pharaoh and his nobles— they defied arrogantly. They were a guidance-flouting people.
10:76  For when the Truth from US came to them, they said, “This surely is brazen sorcery.”
10:77  Said Moses, “Is this your response to the Truth now that it has come to you? Is this sorcery? The sorcerers are not to succeed.”
10:78  They said, “Have you come to us to peel us away from what we found our forefathers, so the two of you may claim the greatness in the land? We are not believers in the two of you.”
10:79  And Pharaoh said, “Fetch me every learned wizard.”
10:80  So then, when the wizards arrived, Moses said to them, “Present what you have to show.”
10:81  Then when they had presented, Moses said, “That which you have conjured with it, is the sorcery [you have been alluding to]. Behold! Allah will now expose its falsity. Know that Allah does not award legitimacy to the work of the corrupt.
10:82  And Allah rightfully confirms the Truth with HIS pronouncements, even if the flouters of divine guidance were averse.”
10:83  Yet, no one—except some offspring of his people— believed in Moses for fear of Pharaoh and their notables; [fearing] that he would persecute them. Pharaoh was lofty in the land, and he was indeed of the ones given to excesses.
10:84  And Moses said, “O my people, if you have believed in Allah then rely on HIM, if you have surrendered unto HIM.”
10:85  Whereupon they said, “Upon Allah do we rely. Our Rabb, do not make us a [means or objects of] trial for the wrongdoers.
10:86  And save us by YOUR mercy from the disbelieving people.”
10:87  WE revealed unto Moses and his brother: “Prepare accommodations for your people in Egypt and make your houses as nexuses of worship; maintain the Prayers for anchor and give divine tidings to the believers.”
10:88  And Moses said, “O our Rabb, YOU have given to Pharaoh and his notables grandeur and wealth in the earthly life. O our Rabb, in order that they mislead away from YOUR way! Our Rabb, eradicate their wealth and harden their hearts, so they will not believe until they face the painful punishment.”
10:89  HE said, “The prayer of you both has been accepted. Stay steadfast on the path and do not follow the path of those who do not know.”
10:90  WE took the children of Israel across the sea, and in their tow were Pharaoh and his forces— in rebellion and enmity— until his fate of drowning caught up with him. Said he, “I have come to believe that there is no god except HE, in whom the children of Israel believe. And I am of those who have surrendered unto HIM.”
10:91  NOW? When heretofore you had been disobedient, and you were of the corrupt?
10:92  So now, this day, WE shall save you in your body, so that you may be a sign for whoever is your successor. And indeed, many among humankind are heedless in the face of OUR signs.
10:93  WE indeed situated the children of Israel in a situation of truth and had given them sustenance from the pristine things. Thereupon they did not differ amongst themselves until the Knowledge came to them. Indeed, on the Day of Resurrection, your Rabb will judge between them concerning that wherein they were differing.
10:94  If you are in doubt of what WE have revealed unto you, [regarding how they developed differences between themselves] then ask those who have been reading the timeless Book before you. The Truth has now come to you from your Rabb— do not you ever be of the skeptical ones.
10:95  And be not ever of those who have repudiated the Signs of Allah lest you be of the ones who lost it all.
10:96  Surely, those upon whom the word of your Rabb has become rightfully due, they will not believe,
10:97  even if every sign came to them, [they will not believe] until they see the painful punishment.
10:98  So then why was it not to be for a settlement to have [collectively] believed, so its belief would enrich it, except the people of Jonah? When they embraced Faith, WE relieved them of the torment of their disgrace in earthly life, and WE provided for their enjoyment through to a time.
10:99  If your Rabb had so willed, all who are on earth would have believed—all of them, collectively. Are you then to compel people until they become believers?
10:100  It is not for a soul that it believes, except with the leave of Allah. HE places the grime [of spiritual blindness] upon those who do not use their intellect.
10:101  Say, “Behold what is held in the heavens and the earth.” But to no avail are the signs and the warnings to a people who do not believe.
10:102  What then are they waiting for, except days like the days of those who have passed away before them! Say, “Do then bide. I am with you amongst the biders.”
10:103  Then [when the days are upon them] WE will save OUR Messengers and those who have believed. Thus, it is rightfully due upon US. WE save the believers.
10:104  Say, “O humankind! In case you are in doubt of my faith, I do not worship those you worship short of Allah, but I worship Allah, WHO will collect you all [in death] and I have been commanded to be of the believers.”
10:105  And that, “Align your being to the True Faith, in quest of God and be not ever of the polytheists.”
10:106  “And do not invoke anything other than Allah— what can neither benefit you nor harm you. For if you do, then you will indeed be of the wrongdoers.”
10:107  And if Allah were to scrub you with a hardship—not any remover is there for it, except HIM and if HE intends good for you, none can avert HIS grace. HE apportions it to whoever of HIS devotees HE wills. HE is the forgiving, the ever merciful.
10:108  Say, “O humankind, the Truth has now come to you from your Rabb. So, whoever has accepted guidance, he accepts guidance only for his own soul, and whoever goes astray, he errs only against his own soul. And I am not a custodian over you.”
10:109  Follow what has been revealed to you. Persevere patiently, until Allah passes judgment. HE is the best of judges.
