15:1  Alif. Lãm. RA. Those there are signs of the timeless Book and an expressive recital.

15:2  When it is time, the unbelievers will wish that they had surrendered to God.

15:3  Leave them to consume and indulge. And let all the expectations distract them. For they will soon come to know.

15:4  And WE have not destroyed a settlement, except while there was a specific book for it.

15:5  Not any nation can outrun its term, nor can it delay it.

15:6  They say, “O you upon whom the Reminder has been revealed— you are definitely insane.

15:7  Why do you not bring us the angels if you be of the truthful?”

15:8  WE do not send the angels except with the Reality, and when that happens, they will be given no respite.

15:9  It is US! We have sent down the Reminder and WE are its certain protector.

15:10  WE did send messengers before you unto sects of the former peoples.

15:11  And not any messenger came to them, without them ridiculing him.

15:12  Like that, WE let it [i.e., disbelief] seep into the hearts of the flouters of divine guidance —

15:13  They will not believe in it, and the practice of the preceding peoples did come to pass.

15:14  Were WE to open a gateway for them in the sky, so they could soar naturally through it, rising ever higher,

15:15  they would say, “Our eyes were merely in delirium, or rather we were a people under a spell.”

15:16  WE have indeed placed constellations in the sky, and WE have adorned it for the observers.

15:17  And WE protect it from every type of ousted satanic entity,

15:18  except one that has ill-gotten the earshot. Then it is pursued by a visible flame.

15:19  And the earth, WE have spread her out, and have strewn therein anchored mountains, and of everything therein, WE cause to flourish, in proper balance.

15:20  And WE have placed therein the means of livelihood for you. And for anyone, you are not the sustainers anywise.

15:21  There is not anything for which the treasuries are not with US. WE do not send it down except in a known measure.

15:22  WE send the winds as pollinators, and WE send water down from the sky, then WE quench your thirst with it. You are not the keepers of its treasuries.

15:23  Surely, it is WE Who give life, and WE give death. And WE are the inheritors.

15:24  WE do indeed know the ones among you seeking to advance, and WE do indeed know the ones seeking to delay.

15:25  Of certain, your Rabb is the one Who will gather them all together. HE is all-wise, ever knowing.

15:26  WE did indeed create man of ṣalṣāl, from organic sludge.

15:27  And the Jinns—WE created them before with the fire of Samūm.

15:28  And [apprise them of] when your Rabb said to the angels: “I am to create a mortal from ṣalṣāl from organic sludge.

15:29  So, when I give him even balance and I blow into him of MY spirit—register the moment for him in prostration”

15:30  So, the angels prostrated—all of them,

15:31  except Ib'līs. HE refused to be of the prostrators.

15:32  HE said, “O Ib'līs what is with you that you are not with the prostrators.”

15:33  He said, “I am not one to prostrate to a mortal. YOU created him of ṣalṣāl from organic sludge.”

15:34  HE said, “Then get out of it— for certain, you are an outcast.”

15:35  Surely, upon you is the denunciation [of God], through to the Day of Surrender.

15:36  He said, “My Rabb, give me respite through to the day they will be resurrected.”

15:37  HE said, “So then, you are of the ones given respite,

15:38  through to the day of predetermined time.”

15:39  He said, “My Rabb, since YOU have dispossessed me [of my station YOU had graced me with], I shall glamorize the earthly for them, and entrap them all,

15:40  Except YOUR devotees, the purified ones among them.

15:41  HE said, “This here is a straight path unto ME.”

15:42  Surely, you are not to have authority over MY devotees, except those who follow you, from the entrappers [of others].

15:43  And surely, Jahannam is their promised place, all included.

15:44  For it are seven gates, and for each gate is an apportioned segment of them.

15:45  Surely, the God-conscious are to be in gardens and springs:

15:46  “Enter therein in peace and be forever secure”

15:47  And WE are to purge any bit of resentment from their bosoms, [so they are as] brothers, upon honored seats, engaged with each other.

15:48  No weariness touches them therein, and they are not to be ever exiled therefrom.

15:49  Keep conveying to MY devotees, that I – I am the forgiving, the ever merciful.

15:50  And that MY punishment—it is the agonizing punishment.

15:51  And apprise them about the guests of Abraham:

15:52  When they entered upon him, they said, “In Peace.” He said, “We are afraid of you.”

15:53  They said, “Do not be afraid. We do bear good tidings for you, of an erudite boy.”

15:54  He said, “Do you bear me good tidings, now that the grandness of age has set in on me? So, on what basis do you bear good tidings?”

15:55  They said, “We have given you good tidings in truth. Therefore, do not be of the disheartened.”

15:56  Abraham said, “Who could be disheartened from the mercy of his Rabb, except those gone astray?”

15:57  He asked, “So what is your assignment, O messengers?”

15:58  They said, “We have been sent unto a guilty people—

15:59  except for the house of Lot. Of certain, we are their saviors—all together.”

15:60  Excepting his wife. WE had determined that she was of the laggards.

15:61  Accordingly, when the messengers came to the house of Lot,

15:62  [Lot] said, “You are mysterious beings.”

15:63  They said, “Nay! We have come to you with that in which they had their doubts”

15:64  And we have come to you with the truth. Surely, we are ever truth-tellers.

15:65  So, set out with your family, in a [still] period of the night, and follow behind them, and let not any amongst you look back, and proceed purposefully [you all] to where you are ordered.”

15:66  And WE decreed unto him, thus is the command: The roots of these people are to be torn out, as they approach the new morn.

15:67  And the residents of the city came, expecting good news.

15:68  [Lot] said, “Surely, these here are my guests, so do not embarrass me.

15:69  Be conscious of Allah and do not shame me.”

15:70  They said, “Have we not forbidden you from speaking on behalf of all realms of the universe?”

15:71  He said, “These are my daughters, if you must act.”

15:72  “By your life, they were stumbling about blindly in their intoxication.”

15:73  So, the blast seized them as they approached the sunrise hour.

15:74  Thereupon WE made [the town’s] top its bottom and rained down stones of baked clay upon them.

15:75  Surely, in that are definite portents for those who carefully scrutinize.

15:76  And indeed! [The ruins] are by a still-standing road.

15:77  Surely, a message is in that for the believers.

15:78  And the dwellers of the thicket were also categorical wrongdoers.

15:79  So, WE extracted retribution from them. Indeed, they both had their own expressive leader-guide.

15:80  And the residents of Al-Hijr also did repudiate the Messengers.

15:81  WE gave them OUR signs, but they were turning away from them dismissively.

15:82  They were hewing out secure homes from the mountains.

15:83  And then the blast seized them as they entered a new day.

15:84  Then of no avail to them was what they were earning.

15:85  WE did not create the heavens and the earth and that which is between them, except in [expression of] the Truth. Verily, the coming of the Hour is real. So, forbear with gracious forbearance.

15:86  Your Rabb is the Supreme Creator, the ever knowing.

15:87  WE have given you seven of the oft repeated [verses] and the transcendent Quran.

15:88  Do not extend your eyes toward what WE have provided for some classes of them, and do not grieve over them. And lower your wing for the believers.

15:89  And assert, “I am the clear and plain warner,”

15:90  such as WE had sent down upon those sowing divisions.

15:91  The ones who put the Quran into dismembered parts.

15:92  So, by your Rabb, WE shall surely question them all.

15:93  about what they were doing.

15:94  So come out openly because of what you are commanded and shun the polytheists.

15:95  Surely, WE suffice for you against the scoffers—

15:96  the ones who set up other deities alongside Allah. For they shall come to know.

15:97  WE do know that your bosom is straitened because of what they say.

15:98  Do then [lift your soul] with praise of your Rabb and be of those who prostrate [to HIM].

15:99  And worship your Rabb, till Certainty comes to you.
